September - December, 2012 | Through The Cold is a music video I created as my capstone piece on behalf of my band, Redding. Technically executing this project reached into the fields of audio production (songwriting and recording) and video production (lighting, directing, and editing). My processes investigated: the emotional resonance of musicality, the synchrony of sight and sound, and the transformative capability of graphic design and letterform upon a message. Course: Capstone (Advising committee: Professors Michael Scott-Nelson, Paul Lempke, and Jake Amundson).
Redding - Smokestacks | December, 2011
Smokestacks is a music video I created for my band Redding's original song. Course: Media Concepts: Video (Professor Damien Catera).
Ryan & Jessica | February, 2012
Highlights from my friends Ryan and Jessica's wedding in Orlando, Florida. I shot and edited this video (and designed the text treatment). Course: Media Concepts: 2D Design (Professor DaShawn Hall).
Contra with Mouth Sounds | April, 2011
I created every single sound with my mouth, and all music is original (i.e. I didn't use any loops). To record the music, I made each "drum hit" with my mouth, and I sang each note in the C chromatic scale (which I then Auto-Tuned). I saved each of these individual sounds as a separate file (over 70 total) and sampled them in real time with a MIDI controller. Each mouth-made sound effect (gunshot, explosion, etc.) was manually synced to the video, frame-by-frame. Finally, I processed the whole song to imitate the original "8 bit" sound. Course: Composition & Sound Design for Multimedia (Professor Rose Burt).
Vanilla Maguire | May, 2011
This movie trailer mashup (featuring clips from Jerry Maguire and Vanilla Sky) is an exercise in editing techniques and how they affect our perceptions. Course: Composition & Sound Design for Multimedia (Professor Rose Burt).
Stephen & Emily | August, 2011
I shot and edited these highlight moments from Stephen and Emily's beautiful wedding at The Journey Church in St. Louis, Missouri. Course: The Effective Digital Artist (Professor Christopher Willits).
Party Gummy Bear | September, 2012
This motion graphics video is an exercise in kinetic typography techniques, featuring a clip from a song I wrote and performed for Vat19. Course: Motion Graphics (Professor Paul Lempke).
The Community of Vat19 | October, 2011
This brief documentary provides a behind-the-scenes look at the work culture of Vat19. Course: Media Concepts: Video (Professor Damien Catera).
The Railroad Tracks | September, 2011
This one-minute piece was created to continue a "telephone game" style sequence in which students build on a previous student's narrative. I created this piece entirely "in camera" - meaning all sounds were recorded while shooting, and no post-production editing or color grading was done. Course: Media Concepts: Video (Professor Damien Catera).
When you call Vat19 to place an order, getting put on hold isn't so bad. You get to listen to either "Das Beer Boot", "Party Gummy Bear", "We Do It Jumbo", or "Girl (Gummy Shots)".
We're incredibly grateful for your encouragement, supportive words, and feedback. This is an exciting season of renewal for us. Thanks for listening, and cheers to 800 likes!
#wayBackWednesday Before calling ourselves Redding we were called Ellis for a short while. We even had buttons made. Anyone have one of these? http://instagr.am/p/SlMFDgl6py/
Seattle, Washington:
You are our largest growing area for new fans! Thanks for the support!
Charlotte, North Carolina:
You're not gonna take that sitting down are you? Who can get the most new Redding fans for their city?
Share a video, link or picture to your friends! If you can get your town above our hometown you'll get a special shout out!
I'm a video producer in the St. Louis area, working for a unique online gift store called Vat19. I have an eye and a passion for cinematography, but creating music is a hobby that vies for my attention.
My undergraduate and graduate work is in digital media production (with emphases in video and audio). I'm setting my sights on becoming a university professor in the near future.
