For the last four years as Education Co-ordinator at Signals Media Arts Centre I have been providing opportunities for everyone, particularly young and disadvantaged people, to participate in creative media production.
Since starting at Signals I have successfully applied for funding from the national First Light Movies scheme four times and have produced over 20 short films with young people. Of these films, several have gained national and international acclaim, including the animation 'Wonderful World' and the award winning documentary, 'Phoenix'. In July 2010 I set up Signals Youth Film Club for teenagers to meet weekly and learn creative and technical skills.
I am currently working with my Youth Film Club on a Heritage Lottery Funded documentary film production called Turning Tides which explores the history of the Essex coast and piers. I am also developing a long term partnership with Essex PRU's (Pupil Referral Units) and producing a programme of digital media, filmmaking and animation workshops and courses for children and adults.
