A top Russian astronomer claimed Monday that humans will encounter extraterrestrial life by 2031.
"Life exists on other planets and we will find it within 20 years," the scientist Andrei Finkelstein said, according to the Interfax News Agency.
The astronomer added that 10 percent of known planets circling suns in the galaxy resemble Earth, making life on such planets highly likely, and that aliens are most likely to resemble humans with two arms, two legs and a head, per Reuters.

Kutiman became a YouTube sensation back in 2009 by creating amazing songs out of found sounds from YouTube videos. The mixmaster struck again this week with a new, bluesy track called "My Favorite Color," proving once again that he's the DJ Shadow of YouTube.
This time around, Kutiman draws from a mom playing an organ, a young girl's amazing soul vocals, a saxophonist, a drummer and more. He links to all of the original videos in his YouTube video notes, so you can watch each of the more-than-20 different sources he sampled from.
Sure, Kutiman didn't make any of the sounds himself, but the whole really is greater than the sum of its parts in this case. Incredible.
Tourists can now come face-to-face with massive saltwater crocodiles as they swim underwater in the glass-lined 'Cage of Death,' an attraction now offered at Northern Australia's Crocosaurus Cove.

On Wednesday, Apple introduced the world to the iPad 2. A beautiful device, to be sure. Feature packed? You bet. Soon to be selling like hotcakes? Absolutely. But the introduction of an iteration on an already existing product wasn't the most notable piece of the event, nor was the surprise appearance of Steve Jobs. No, Wednesday's event was significant because it introduced the world to Apple's real vision for the foreseeable future, a theme the company has hinted at but never fully expressed. This week, Apple showed everyone where it was headed, challenged competitors on that direction, and made it clear that the company not only has staked a claim in that space, but is defining it.

This so-called Skeletonics exoskeleton may not have any motors or hydraulics like most of its powered counterparts, but that doesn't mean it isn't still plenty capable -- as a new, elaborately produced video amply demonstrates. We won't spoil it all for you, but lets just say things pick up when the guitar licks start, and there's definitely someone running for their life before the end. See for yourself after the break.

Detour III from Mike Celona on Vimeo.
http://www.mikecelona.net - A remix of the first two installments of the Detour series, in this version all previous visual and conceptual associations are broken down as the mashed-up video fades and shifts between three different perspectives: 1.) the reedited source images as seen directly from the computer timeline 2.) the screen surface of an old CRT television monitor filmed with a macro lens as it plays back the aforementioned images 3.) the same television as seen from the vantage point of an ordinary viewer sitting in a common living room. The resulting perceptual muddle is an attempt to disorient the viewer in a way that causes them to explore their own role as an observer (is watching a disaster from privacy of your living room the same as standing there staring at one in person?) as well as the ways in which media inherently distorts those observations, whether it be through the manipulative voyeurism of reality television, clinical surveillance via closed-circuit monitor or the simple distraction of enjoying the pretty flickering lights emitted by the machine.
The subtitle “A Requiem for the Cathode Ray Tube” is a homage to the type of monitor used in the creation of this video which was common in most homes from the inception of consumer television technology right up until the early 2000s when flat-panel TVs rendered them obsolete (though they are still used to a limited extent by broadcast professionals and others). The unique pixel patterns and scan line distortions literally hypnotized me as a kid whenever I ignored my parent’s advice not to sit too close to the television and are something that I wanted to celebrate on a purely aesthetic level in addition to everything else I have been trying to convey with this series of videos.
Ghost from Tobias Gundorff Boesen on Vimeo.
"Ghost" (2011) is a independent shortfilm finished January 2011, shot in my hometown of Viborg. Both I, the DOP and sounddesigner grew up here, and had strong feelings about the locations.
We wanted to tell a simple story with a strong visual universe, using mostly atmosphere and moods. Avoiding dialogue and story telling rules, we played around with the structure, visuals and sound, trying to make the outer world reflect the inner feelings of the characters. This little ekspressive and experimental film was the end result.
Thanks alot to all the friends and family who helped out!

Christiane Baumgartner’s work deals with the convergence of speed and standstill. Her choosen format is monumental monochrome woodcut taken from her own video stills. She combines the earliest and the latest reproduction processes: woodcut and video. Speed and the passage of time are recurring themes throughout her work. The notion of ‘time’ is also embodied in her artistic process, which involves the lengthy and painstaking medium of handmade woodcut, with all its inaccuracies and mistakes. (cf. artist’s statement)
