  • Tasty Treats From Ikea

    It totally sucks that Stoke on Trent doesn't have an Ikea. Our closest one is in Wednesbury which takes a good 50 minutes at least to get to! The other day when I picked up those  Vivienne Westwood Sunglasses from the TK Maxx there, I also popped across to the Ikea. I bought a few housey bits that I will include in a home tour blog post at some point in my life, but for now I will show you the food items I bagged when I was there. I LOVE all kinds of food and live by the motto 'you've got to try everything twice' because you can never tell if you REALLY like something on the first try, so the second try is just to make sure. When it comes to Ikea there are several things I adore: Meatballs at the start, perusing the children's section for little toys for kitty, having a hot dog and a coffee on the way out and visiting the Swedish Food section too - which now has a pick n' mix bit! (which I unfortunately didn't get any of). Anywho, this what I got this time round:

    It does appear to be a little bit of a dull selection doesn't it? But let me tell you - that mustard for one is the best condiment EVER and everything is so cheap. The crispy onion bits retail for like, £2 in Tesco but in Ikea there only 70p! It's good to see that Ikea are making a bit more of an effort with their Swedish supermarket range, as they used to stock brands like Daim and Kopperburg but stopped in favour of their own brand stuff (some of which wasn't very exciting at all). The Chocolate Spread has butterscotch pieces in so it literally like eating liquid Daim bars - it's amazing. To make it a little healthier I've been dipping apple slices in it which is totally delicious. I suppose the 'weirdest' things I got on this trip were the 'Vilt Snacks' which are smoked and dried sausages with pork and ELK meat in, and also the 'Tangkorn' Seaweed stuff, which is like the consistency of caviar. The most expensive thing was the chocolate spread which was £1.70, so you can kind of gauge the price of the rest of my haul.

    
    

    
    

    I'm looking forward to adding the onion bits to salads, the seaweed stuff to ritz crackers with philidephia on (taste sensation right there) and the little sausages fried off and added to pasta sauces and super noodles (my diet is a little colourful at times) but  I love combining flavours and textures like that! It's a shame you can't buy Ikea food online really as I'd probably shop there every week.

    
    
  • Two Tickets For The Colour Show

    I don't usually bother writing nail varnish reviews, I find they're a bit 'meh' and sometimes boarder on pointless at times, but I thought I'd make an exception to the rule with these Maybelline Colour show Nail Polishes. I'd seen them around blogs when they were released a few weeks ago and didn't really take an interest, but when I went in to Boots and discovered they were 'Buy One Get One Half Price' and only retailed at £2.99 I thought it was a bargain not to miss. I picked up 4 colours altogether as I simply could not decide which ones to get. The colour range was quite good, including some shades which were more affordable 'dupes' for higher end brands (I'm talking about the L'Oreal Confetti Top Coat and Illamasqua Speckled Polishes here) and also some lovely shades and sparkles I'd not noticed on the shelves before. The bottle and design does boast that of a more expensive polish too, and I think I'm what you would call 'impressed' with the Maybelline Colour Show range as a whole.

    Now don't get me wrong, the Maybelline Colour Show Nail Varnishes aren't the best nail varnishes on the high street, but they are by no means the worst. The quality does reflect in the price somewhat as the colours do apply fairly sheer. Just achieve an opaque effect with the Polka Dots ones you're looking at at least 3 coats - but I guess this is understandable s if they were too thick you wouldn't see the effect! But one I was hoping for a deeper colour and finish too was the 'Wine Shimmer'. Wine Shimmer has a lovely mutlicoloured sparkle running through it in a deep pink shade polish, but it took 4 coats to get it to a nice level of colour, but once that is achieved I really do like it. Sugar Crystals is very similar, but I did buy this to use as a top coat and for that it does work very well.

    
    

    
    

    I have had a little play around with all the shades and as you might know I love to pick nail varnish off, I rarely wear it for more than 2 days before I peel it away. Due to the amount of coats needed on these it does prove really easy to peal off! But I also tried with 2 coats and it's a little harder. Within the two days of wear I probably had each on for they didn't chip, but beyond that I can't really comment. They didn't have that 'hard' finish which tends to chip though if that's any use? I really like the effect of making an ombre finish by using Sugar Crystals and Wine Shimmer together and it was really easy to blend them by just using the nail varnish brushes alone. It's hard to capture the iridescent finish of these two, but believe me, it's lovely.

    
    

    
    

    Anyway, I can't really harp on about nail varnish for too much longer than that. To conclude - very nice colours, very nice price, very good range of colours and an OK to good quality!
  • Bargain Hunt: Vivienne Westwood Sunglasses

    Oh TK Maxx, if I could count the ways I love thee... We would be here all day. TK Maxx has gotta be my favourite shop of all time I reckon. It's the bargain hunter in me that just LOVES rummaging through the piles of crap to find that hidden treasure, and today, well I got myself some GOLD. It was on my way out that I spotted a stand with about 10 pairs of these Vivienne Westwood Sunglasses on, I love a bit of Viv as it channels my inner punk in a non direct punkish way, and I totally love the signature Orb logo design. I immediately assumed these would be too expensive for me to treat myself too... But wait till you hear how much they were....

    The sunglasses are a nice big bug eye design which suits my round face just dandy, and they come in a admirably tacky gold case with a nice purple inside. I can't really tell you much about the SPF or whatever the gauge is on sunglasses for UVA protection because I didn't even bother looking at the leaflet that came with them, but what I CAN tell you is the RRP was £124!! And TK Maxx was selling them for.... £20! TWENTY ENGLISH POUNDS. I am immediately regretting not getting another pair!! But I'm leaving it up to fate to see if they have any in when I go to my local on this week (these were from the Wednesbury branch). I have looked to see if they're on the TK Maxx website and unfortunately they're not. Good luck to anyone trying to find these though, I bet they've sold out already at that price! It seems sunglasses can be added to my short list of things that I seem to have expensive taste in alongside shoes and coats, this is my second pair which cost a few pretty pennies (after the Dior ones I won last year) and I have a little collection of Betsy Johnson sunglasses too! I don't even wear them a lot of the time because they leave that annoying mark on the bridge of my nose. Wahhh.

    When  you're on a tight budget yet want to treat yourself it can be hard to know where to look. The Poundshop and TK Maxx can be good for bagging bargains, but sometimes it's nice to try something completely different, and when you're lacking inspiration there is always that purse friendly option of... EBAY. I say purse friendly, but sometimes you get stuck in this vortex of adding more and more things to your watch list and then thinking 'SCREW IT I'M HAVING IT ALL' at particularly dull lunch times at work. That's what happens to me anyway. When times are hard and money is tight, I know I can always turn to eBay to ease my woes. I only got these things through the post yesterday but was just so excited to share to them I just felt the need to pop them up on the blog straight away.... (Am I really at that point in my life where 'excited' is a way to describe my emotions regarding this? Yes.)

    
    

    Buying Korean cosmetics off eBay

    I purchased just 3 things on my latest binge buy which are the Etude House Nail Polish, Holika Holika Strawberry Pore Cover Mouse Starter and Holika Holika Petit BB. If you're unfamiliar with Korean cosmetics these brands are good places to start, alongside Skin79 and Tony Moly these are my most lusted after brands on eBay and usually the ones I end up buying. Etude House have this habit of drawing me in with their cutesy packaging so there's always lot's of cute fodder to choose from. I can't remember if I've actually bought any Holika Holika stuff before but I've been eyeing up the Petit BB Cream's for as long as I can remember, so thought I'd finally give it a sneaky purchase and the Strawberry Pore Cover? Seriously, how could I resist. Altogether I spend around £15 on these 3, which is a lot for me to splurge, but the Strawberry Pore Cover was around £10 on it's own. I was just feeling so fancy free that lunch time, what can I say?!

    
    

    Korean Cosmetics Samples

    As always when you purchase off these oversea's shops you always get loads of sample sachets, it's amazing how much they throw in! I've never bought an item without getting a few sachets in the parcel. This is the little selection I got this time and it's quite varied. I do need to have a look at what some of the things are though as the instructions on the back don't come in English, but it doesn't take you long to work out how to use some anyway. I'm particularly intrigued by the Snail BB Cream. Speaking of BB creams I did crack open the Petit BB Cream straight away. Bear in mind this is only a first impression so I can't talk about the performance of the product or wearability, but I can give you a rough idea of what you get. When I first splodged it out I did think it was a little dark for a Korean BB Cream, usually these things are pale and a little greyish in tone, but this one was like a shade of brown almost in the light? But then when I applied it to my face it immediately became lighter and adapted to my skin tone! I was quite impressed how well it blended in. The consistency is nice but not as nice as I would expect and is a little on the thicker side and not as silky feeling as others can be, but saying that the coverage is very good which is never a bad thing for me. This one is the 'clearing' variety so we will see how much it clears this spotty skin of mine in the long run. Set with a powder it does provide a nice even coverage.

    
    

    
    

    The second thing I just had to try straight away was the nail varnish. There's not much to say about this one though apart from it's not as concentrated in 'bits' as I'd like. On the nails in the image that's 2 coats of the varnish and it's still quite sparse. But it is a nice and unique pattern and reminds me of harlequins and clowns and the like. A good tip for when applying polishes like this is to do 2 coats but apply the second when the nails are still tacky, I find a lot more particles transfer and you get a much better result! The nail varnish does dry pretty quickly and is a hard formula, so we will see how long it takes before I pick it off!

    
    

    
    

    And finally, that Strawberry Foam for my face. I don't know why I even bought this as me and primers never get on. I find no matter which ones I use they always leave my foundation patchy and looking clogged up, then towards the end of the day it separates on my skin. Once again my opinion of this one is a first impression as today is it's first outing, but so far so good! A little goes a long way with this and a little splodge does cover your whole face. On it's own it doesn't really provide much to give you a flawless complexion like the ebay listing said, and it does come across a little tacky. But once it has 'settled' and you apply your (in this case) BB cream over it it's a very nice finish. It's not as dewy as I expected but as far as primers go for me, this is a good one. Costing about £10 though it is more than I would pay again, but it's such a unique product I had to try it regardless!! With SPF30 it's certainly better than going without anything under my regular foundation which has minimal (if any) SPF so I don't regret buying it at all. As for 'pore coverage' I don't have visible pores anyway, so can't comment!

    As Gok Wan would say 'Crop tops are bang on trend this season' and I for one, am not a massive fan of getting my mid regions out. I don't like having a breeze coming in up through my garments, getting all up in my grill, so up until now have avoided them like the plague. But I spotted this cut out shoulder cat face crop in Republic and even though it wasn't on the sale rail I just had to have it. I do generally think Republic is a bit shit, it's pretty pricey and the other two garments I bought both got holes in without me even wearing them!! But I'm a complete sucker for cut out shoulder detail, whatever the garment is, as soon as I spot them I buy them. I think cut out shoulders are perfect for anyone who is a bit conscious about their arms (which I am a bit) and they make them appear a lot slimmer, covering them up a bit but also still looking summery and warm! 

    
    

    
    

    I popped on this maxi skirt that I got last summer from New Look as I knew it came up a bit higher so I wouldn't have any fleshy bits exposed. I'm also a bit 'nesh' as we say in Stoke, so as soon as there's a hint of chill in the air I feel it! So I like to play it safe and always over dress no matter what the weather predictions for the day. I put on my denim shirt I got from Primark the other week just to be on the extra safe side but it actually turned out it was probably the hottest day of the year so far. I absolutely love this scrabble tile necklace I got in my goody bag from the Birmingham Bloggers meet last month by Kris Chi usually I disregard jewellery after I've worn it once, but this I keep putting on again and again! 

    
    

    
    

    I also even wore sandals for the first time this year, which also ended up being the last time as this was bank holiday Monday when it was hot and then it's been absolutely rubbish weather ever since! Boooo! Unfortunately I can't find a link to the t shirt for you as Republic must still be in that administration thing and don't have a website to shop on, not surprised if all their clothing gets inexplicable holes in it though eh!

    
    
  • Po-Zu Edible.... Shoe Cream?!

    So you know I like to talk about beauty products right? But sometimes I also like to share my thoughts on food... So how do you think I reacted when I was offered an opportunity to review some EDIBLE. SHOE. CREAM? I was a little bit excited. Although, is it  a wonder product like no other? OR is it a product we all are quite familiar with, cleverly packaged to look like something else. WELL. Read on and find out.... (I think I just gave the game away though).

    
    

    
    

    The Po-Zu Edible Shoe Cream does sound like a bizarre concept indeed doesn't it? Boasting that not only is it a shoe polish but a cooking oil, a hair conditioner, lip balm and even an addition to drinks, this all sounds a little bit craycray. The product itself is a solid balm like substance which once warmed turns in to an oil. And that's precisely just what this is... A multi use Coconut Oil.

    Selling at £7.10 and marketed as such a multiuse product it's not actually that pricey when compared to Coconut Oils on websites such as Holland and Barrett and  this is a very nice quality oil and does do what it says on the tin. As a lip balm it's wonderful and it's also added a nice little shine to my Clarks leather loafers, but I suppose it's a case of doing your research with this one. The naive may think it's an amazing idea, whereas the informed would find a much more cost effective variant. I for one picked up a massive tub of Coconut Oil from the World Foods Section in Tesco for a mere £1.96 a few weeks ago, but saying that the quality of the Po-Zu Shoe Cream does seem a bit better.  *I do apologise that in the second image you can't see the information on the label which I have photographed, I will update this as soon as possible so you can see!
  • Pale Skin Is In.

    This summer I am making a stand, and it's one that I hope a lot of girls can join me on... This summer I am not going to use a sunbed, I am not going to sit for hours in the yawn-some sunshine bored out of my skull 'soaking up the rays', this summer I am not going to attempt to use fake tan to be brown but end up some kind of orange patchy mess. This summer I am going to embrace my pale skin and not cover it up, not feel like I am not hot as sin because I'm pale, and not give a bag of rats crap what anyone thinks about my pasty complexion. I may sound bitter about not being tanned and yeah. Maybe part of me is, but a bigger part is reminding me, we are in ENGLAND and English girls in general are pretty pale, so let's stop striving to be something we're not and shake our tail feathers with what nature gave us... Which in this case is legs that resemble milk bottles.... Oh well. I'm not going to rant on about how bad sun beds are for you because I don't think they've that bad in general, I mean we all need Vitamin D right, and with the lack of summer we've had thus far I don't think 3 minutes every now and then is the worst thing in the world ever. BUT I am also not going to go out of my way to try and be tanned. Life's too short to not get your legs out and feel those thighs rub together as you walk (because you don't give a shit about not having a 'thigh gap' but that's a-whole-nother rant) I don't care if I'm so pale I reflect the sun, this summer I am enjoying what I've got without wanting it to be anything else.

    
    

    
    

    Wow, that opening paragraph was a bit 'let's burn our bra's' on my soapbox or something, but it's alright, it was possibly just a long way to go about saying that I think too many people (including myself) spend far too long thinking about what others think about us and not enough time just enjoying what we have and being thankful we have healthy bodies no matter what the shape or size or skin tone. So many summers I have wasted wearing longer skirts, leggings, tights, whatever, just because my legs are 'too pale' and you know what? They're not too pale at all. They're just, well, my legs. And you will find my arms are the same shade too! And sometimes my face... But that depends what foundation I've used and if it matches my skin (which is pretty rare, I like a good off colour face, me!) Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with being tanned, I know it makes one look  a little more toned, a little slimmer, maybe even healthier, but it's too much effort for me personally and I'd prefer to spend that time a little more constructively (sitting on my ass watching telly mainly).

    
    

    
    

    So, the outfit eh? The dress was from H&M the other day and was a snip at £14.99. I did try and buy things that were a bit more 'mature' during my last run of shopping spree's, but I just succumb to the lovely light material and print of this dress and also the fact it has pockets! I love any dress with pockets. The shoes I got from Urban Outfitters about 3 years ago and they were only around £10, they're comfy and cute but a little annoying sometimes as the buckle keeps coming undone as I'm walking and I just look a bit silly having to bend over to fasten it every 10 minutes. 

    
    

    
    

    A good product to make your pale skin look nice is this Nourish Golden Glow Toning Soufflé which I was sent from Big Green Smile..... I know the title of that product makes it seems like I'm contradicting the tone of this post, but it's not I assure you. The Nourish Golden Glow is a lovely creamy foamy like substance with an delicate hue of golden glitter within it. It makes your skin look so much smoother and dewy without making you look like David Bowie during his Ziggy Stardust phase. It's a nice touch to enhance any skin tone and generally even your skin out and makes it look that little bit healthier. I guess it's a bit like highlighting your face or using a light diffusing primer, but for your ENTIRE BODY. It reminds me a little of the Soap and Glory Hocus Focus with it's light diffusing effect but obviously in a much bigger tub and a more golden tone than the pinkish one. It's a shame iridescent finishes really don't capture well on photographs, but go and swatch Hocus Focus in Boots and you will see what I'm talking about!  

    
    

    
    

    Will you be embracing your paleness this year? Or will you succumb to the sun? Either way it's fine, but it's interesting to see how much tanning is a 'thing' nowadays. I remember the days when you'd be hard pushed to find a shelf of fake tan in Boots and now there are whole sections dedicated to it! 

    
    
  • Bubble Brain

    It's that time of year where I get sucked in to energy drinks and all the fancy pants flavours they seem to release each warm season. Not one to ever pass up a new flavour sensation, I spotted the new 'Rockstar Supersours' in Asda for a quid each and thought 'WHEN IN ROME' (or Asda) I should pop two in my basket. They only had two flavours on the shelves which were 'Green Apple' and 'Bubbleburst' and I think this is all that they have in the supersours range, so I got them both and put them to the test. Oh the things I do to blog about. My poor teeth and heart rate eh...

    
    

    
    

    I drink so much coffee at work and need that little kick up the ass in the mornings to get me going, but with the warmer weather setting in I just don't feel like hot drinks a lot of the time. So energy drinks are a nice change now and again. I know they're not a popular choice because let's face it, if you drank one or two of these beasts every day your insides would probably rot. But now and again they're a nice treat. I really don't like the original energy drink flavour like Red Bull, so that's why I like the Rockstar and Relentless ranges as they step away from that horrid syrupy taste and smell. They come in a pretty generous can and by the time I get half way down one I can feel my brain going all 'woo' but it's alright to keep on your desk and sip through out the day as they don't tend to go flat too quickly.

    
    

    
    

    The Bubbleburst flavour wasn't really all that sour at all, which was a nice contrast the the Green Apple one which I found quite acidic. but still a nice over all flavour. Bubbleburst reminds me of those blue and pink fizzy bottles you used to get in a penny mixture back int'day and I found the taste very tasty indeed and have bought a few more cans whilst it's on offer because above all it's quite a different flavour to most drinks out there and really very nice. the Green Apple one I don't think I'll be buying again as like I said it's way to acidic and you can kind of feel it sitting in your belly after you've gulped some. The taste of the Green Apple is kind of like Fizzy Chewits (anyone remember them?) which kind of does make you pull a 'sucking lemons' face. I do find the Rockstar energy drinks a lot more flavoursome than Relentless in general although they do come with that cringeworthy brand name.

    
    
  • Keep It Simple Stupid

    So in contrast to my last blog post about uh, hot chocolate, I thought I'd actually step in to the joys of summer and show you how I kick it sometimes - simple and stylish, like a proper good egg. Like most things in life I have stuck to the old classic K.I.S.S rule... ''KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUPID!'' which is a damn good rule to apply to most area's of your life. From design to dressing yourself - keep it simple and you can't go wrong! 

    
    

    
    

    The other day I tweeted a really good voucher code I found on the 10 ways to have more money as a student, without working Facebook page for Matalan, which was £10 off with no minimum spend. I would have been a damn fool not to take up the offer myself, so splashed out an entire £2 on this plain khaki colour jersey skater dress (the voucher code finished later the same day, but the RRP is £12 on this, which is still cheap! and you can still find them in store in loads of colours!). I love the length of this as it's perfect for warmer days and getting your milk bottles, uhm I mean legs out. To add a bit of pizazz to my razz I jazzed it up with a bug necklace I got from the H&M sale ages ago for £2, a belt from unknown sources, and my trusty Converse which I'd had for years now! Initially I did pull my face at spending like £40 on a pair of Converse, but considering they're probably in their 5th year of being in my life, and still have no visible signs of ware on the soles, I think it turns out they were a pretty good investment!

  • Perfect Weather For It, Eh?

    Ah, what better beverage to get down ya in this lovely weather we're having than a nice refreshing... HOT CHOCOLATE (or as I like to call it - Ho CHO). Yes, I really do pick my moments to blog about such things don't I? But I had this last night after a swift gym session and it was pretty darn delicious so I thought I'd share it! I've had 'Butterscoth Bob' in my cupboard since Easter and I spotted it hiding away in there when I was routing out my carton of long life milk (I heard milk was a good post gym drink you see and I always have one 'in stock' for emergencies). Anyway, I popped a mug of milk in to the microwave to heat up and unwrapped this lovely little dunky spoon.

    
    

    
    

    I have got another one which is Gingerbread flavour, but fancied butterscotch if only for the precious nougat of fudge which lay upon it. I got them both from the farm shop Brown and Green which is at Stoke on Trent's very own 'Sylvanian Families' get away; Trentham Gardens. They had absolutely tonnes of flavours and for some reason, despite the excellent offer they had on I restricted myself to only two. Anyway once your milk is warmed up to a sufficient temperature you simply stir the dunky spoon in (and take sneaky licks in between the melty goodness) until it disappears and you're just left with a stick.

    
    

    
    

    It was very very tasty, but I must say I was maybe a bit over zealous making it disappear in a pint mug of milk.... (the mug is Emma Bridgewater by the way because I'm really fancy like that) Once the chocolate had melted into the milk it was still a really pale milky colour, so next time I'd probably go for a much smaller cup. But nevertheless, my pint of milk with a hint of Butterscotch Bob certainly was yummy. If you ever do find yourself in Stoke on Trent make sure you head to both Trentham Gardens and Emma Bridgewater as you can pick up a few bargains from both if you go on the right days and look in the right places!

    
    
  • Sports Watch, Sports Action!

    Have I mentioned I've joined the gym recently? Oh yeah, only about 50 times every day since I did join, right? Anyway, a few days ago a lot of tweeters helped me out with my trainer saga! I am absolutely clueless when it comes to anything to do with exercise, and after tweeting a picture of the trainers I was wearing to the gym, I got a bit of a telling off from all the fitness guru's out there, and some excellent advice about which trainers I should be looking for. I'm glad I 'asked Twitter' as I was getting a cramp in the back of one of my legs running in the trainers I did have, which ended up being 'fashion' trainers and of no good for anything apart from erm, being slippers or something probably. I was actually pretty relieved that it was my trainers causing the problem though, as I was worried it'd just be years of lazyness causing my legs not to work properly, meaning I'd be able to use it as an excuse to never go the gym again!     Anyway, who'd have thought choosing new trainers would be such a mine field? Gone are the days at school where it didn't matter which trainers you had.... as long as they were Nike Air Max in a pretty colour. Nowadays there is so much choice. Gone is the simplicity of being a cool kid with your Nike Airs or being a not-so-cool kid getting written about in the toilets for having a pair of Hi Tec Trainers. I remember when we went to 'big school' we were finally allowed to have a £50 budget every 6 months to spend on some branded trainers! But maybe that's just a Stoke thing, I remember a lot of my school friends were in the same boat! Now it's all about the.... arch... the cushioning... the... GAIT? All words and things I had never even heard of before! The JD Sports website is a treasure trove for a whole host of fancy pants footwear. I don't even know where to start, but I'm already trying to decide which pair to next invest in. As you know footwear is one area that I allow myself to splurge on, and now I have a new excuse.

    
    

    
    

    As you can see I've ended up with a pair of adidas Duramo in black and purple. They are so comfortable, I can see why some people rock sportswear on a daily casual basis, it's a shame I can't get away with wearing trainers to work! They came in pretty cheap at £30 but they don't have this colour online any more which is a bit of a shame! I've noticed a massive difference in the pesky pain in my leg since having these, and I'm glad I got a little telling off on Twitter for my old trainers because at the end of the day your feet are for life yo! Although I do get the feeling there are 'better' trainers out there but these will do for the time being.

  • Super Simple Wall Art DIY

    Oh walls, they're kind of useful aren't they? Keeping your dwellings all secure and separating rooms and what not. But walls can be a bit boring can't they? Especially when you rent and you don't want to waste money on precious wallpaper or fancy pants paint that you can't take with you when you inevitably move. One thing making my walls a bit more exciting is jazzing them up with irregular sized pictures, frames and canvases. I've managed to do this all on the cheap so far by being savvy and re-using old frames, painting them up and popping some pictures I already had in or just printing pretty images out to put in, and quick win things like that. But sometimes we have to be a little extra crafty (when we're super super bored that is) and make pretty wall objects by utilising what we have 'in stock' (we all have an abundance of blank canvases from 'The Works' spare right?).

    
    

    Heart Canvas DIY

    
    

    For this super simple Vintage Style Heart Canvas DIY you don't even need glue. Just a blank canvas, a needle and thread, scissors, a map or image and some....coffee. We all did that thing in school where we made a letter look old by 'tea bagging' it? Well, I think coffee works a bit better for this as you can splatter some grains across and make it look a little more weathered. Oh, and the smell of coffee is always a bit of a bonus isn't it?  You don't need to take great care when splashing the coffee on the canvas, I just used some kitchen roll and it took around 3 seconds. Let it dry on a radiator for around half an hour and you're good to go.  The next step is finding a pretty image, for this occasion I have used a photocopy of a map found in a book called 'London History in Maps'   from The British Library, which contained a whole host of mappy fodder to steal, simply choose one you like and cut it in to a heart shape (or whatever crazy shape you fancy).

    
    

    
    

    Instead of glueing the paper on to the canvas I thought it would be a nice touch to sew it on instead. To make that part a little easier I placed the heart on the canvas and simply stabbed my way around until I'd made enough holes to go from start to finish, making sure they were close enough to look hold it in place but far enough to part to look all pretty and such. Just sew around with some thread and tie it in a knot when you reach the end.

    
    

    
    

    And I dare to say you are done! That's about as simple as it gets for DIY Wall Art really. From start to finish you're looking at forking out around £2 for the canvas, but that depends on the size you want, and then a few pence for a photocopy! I imagine everyone has coffee and a needle and thread somewhere at home?! I mean, I don't even have an iron and I had them!

    
    

    
    

    I was thinking this would be a cute present for a wedding or anniversary too, as you could find out where the couple first met and make them a big one with a pretty map of the city or something? It would pretty cheap and unique anyway! What do you think of my 'DIY' posts anyway? Like my beauty and food posts I want to keep them foolproof, simple and cost effective.

  • New Goodness From Camila Prada!

    If you've read my blog or follow my Twitter then you will be fully aware of my love for the ceramic wonderment that local Stoke on Trent designer Camila Prada produces and sells. After seeing her latest design which is in collaboration with Venezuelan illustrator Piktorama  I felt somewhat compelled to write about her yet again! Camila Prada and Piktorama have splashed their creative juices together (that sounds a little wrong doesn't it?) to create a beautiful sugar dispenser which not only celebrates once again Camila's signature ceramic kawaii stylings, but also it featured the ever so cutesy illustration from Piktorama in-keeping with the overall design.

    I feel that this needs to be part of my growing Camila Prada collection, especially since Kitty broke the wing off one of my tealight holders (Spirit Gyde, wahhh) and I have had a hole in my heart ever since (but working on fixing it, as it's beautiful).   • A Tragic Yet Constructive Shopping Trip

    OK. Let's start with the really really sad news from this weekend. My beloved boots which I was gifted months ago from Barratts have been STOLEN. In broad daylight. And granted, it was a little bit my fault. But seriously, if you can't leave a carrier bag with your stinking old boots in a shop for literally 5 minutes before you realise you left them on the floor when trying something on, what is the world coming to? It was in H&M in the Arndale Centre on Saturday. I wore them to town as it was a bit rainy, but by the time I got there I was so warm and I spotted the really nice 'Kustom' pumps down there in TK Maxx for £12.99, I thought it'd be a good decision to buy them and change my shoes over there and then.... So the boots were popped into the TK Maxx and the new pumps were places on my feet, and within half an hour the entire saga had unfolded and some arsehole had picked them up and they were gone. I asked the H&M staff if they'd been handed in and the Arndale customer services, but nothing. Thing is as well, I think I spotted the little bastards that took them and it was a bunch of teenage lads, I hope they put their hands in and they stunk of my old smelly boots for the rest of their LIVES. I'm properly going to miss them as I literally hadn't had them off my feet since I'd had them. So if anyone wants to donate some more... I won't be saying no.     I'm going through some awkward stage where I keep wearing the same dresses over and over again because I'm just having a quarter life crisis or something right now. The other week when I went to the Brum Bloggers Meet I was dressed like a child and I felt just so conscious all day! I realised at that point 97% of my wardrobe is brightly patterned dresses. I really need to mature my style a little because let's face it, I'm not doing this looking young thing any favours by dressing young! I've gone for dark and plain in this trip to see how I go on. One of my friends once told me that I have the ability to pick out the most disgusting clothes and accessories and make them look good, and I think that goes for the first dress pictured. I will have to do an outfit of the day post on it because it really is a strange cut and style and not one that I've seen before, but I love how it looks on, head over to instagram (helloterrilowe) for a sneaky peak though. I also bought a plain black sleeveless skater dress for £10 from an unbranded shop as Sophie instagrammed a picture of hers with a shirt underneath and it looked amazing so I had to jump on that look! Alongside that I also got a nice plain jersey t shirt dress for if we ever get a summer and my first pair of 'skinny jeans'!! They were half price so around £5 and they're amazing. I can actually squeeze my ass in! They're more jeggings than jeans I suppose but they're stretchy enough to squeeze in to and there's a zip on the side so I can breath in, fasten, then breath out so they fit really nicely and suck everything in! The first dress (£14.99), jersey  dress (£7.99), jeans and white top (£4) were all from H&M.

    
    

    
    

    To go with my new jeans and the skater dress I bought two new shirts from Primark. I've been after a denim shirt for ages but didn't want to spend more than £10 on one! Luckily this one was in the sale for £5 and has a nice embroidery and stud detail around the collar. Then I got this adorable sheer shirt from Primark too for £10 which has these really cute cut out hearts along the shoulder! It was a bit more than I wanted to pay for Primark, but I'm sure sometimes they just get rejected Topshop designs in or something?! It's really nice quality too and sits just past my hips.

    
    

    
    

    As I mentioned I got these floral 'Kustom' pumps from TK Maxx, a snip at £12.99 although they did cost me in the end my beautiful boots. I am so upset about it!! But they're nice all the same.The right foot does rub a little on the back of the heel though which made this weekend even more painful wahhhh. If you follow me on Twitter you'll have seen my painfully naive tweetings about gym shoes, and I finally picked up some that are fitness worthy. These addidas running shoes were from Sports Direct. The box said £30 but when I got them to the till they scanned at £27 and they're not too ugly either! I was a bit hesitant to splurge that much on them, but I know it's important to have the right footwear for the gym and also they will last forever. 

    
    

    
    

    And finally I had a little splurge on stationary and a cute shower poof in Primark and Paperchase! I LOVE this new design in Paperchase with the cats on!! They had SO MUCH! I was sensible and just stuck to post it notes and stickers though. And also got some cute cupcake post its from Primark and the cat shower poof was a £1!

    
    

    I'm not often so frivolous when out shopping but I was really upset about the boots and I haven't actually gone too over board or spent on anything I won't wear/use (this time!) Have you picked up any bargains this weekend? The rain is so horrid right now, what happened to spring, I need my boots, wahhhh.

    Despite having an actual degree in Crafts it's not often I blog about my DIY adventures, I should really do more as I did specialise in Jewellery, but with lack of time and a workshop it's hard to find motivation! I am aiming to blog more craft related posts though, as it's something I want to rediscover my enthusiasm for, and what better way to introduce you to my skills than sharing my latest hand crafted design... *insert lol*. To explain, the other day it was my manager at work's birthday and we have an ongoing joke about Bad Taxidermy and really really wanting some in our lives. I say it's a joke but I couldn't be more serious, the things I'd do for a badly stuffed fox!     As I'm sure you can imagine, he loved them a lot, and they're now pride of place in his kitchen (I know right, I would have put them at least in the living room so I could admire them all evening!). As you may know I've only worked for my company since Christmas, so yes, I did get a few strange looks and I don't think this helped with my reputation of being slightly odd. However, I've already had an order for some after tweeting about them, which was unexpected at the time but reflecting back I'm not surprised, I might create some more to keep! Do you fancy your own Zombie Wildlife? Give me a shout I'm sure we can come to some arrangement..... Expect a few more crafty posts in the near future as like I said, I wanna get crack-a-lacking with things again!   • The Gym Test! Including The New Benefit Fake Up Concealer

    Yep, you read that right, I joined the GYM. This is kind of a big deal for me as I'm the biggest (and unhealthiest) scaredy cat ever. If someone had told me two weeks ago that on Sunday morning at 8am I would have gone to the gym all alone and actually worked out I would have laughed in their stupid face! But alas, it happened, and it wasn't that bad. Anyway, I'm one of those annoying people that does wear make up to the gym. I don't care what you say, me sweating my baps off on a treadmill is bad enough, but to do it without make up and have my spotty chops on show is just one step worse. To be fair, I generally go the gym in the evenings anyway so I would just be wearing the make up I've had on all day without topping it up, but on Sunday it was my first stop and screw you, I still put some on! And yes, I know wearing make up and sweating like a motherbitch is the worst combination ever, and I've had a few more spots as a result so eventually I'm gonna have to stop being so stubborn and remove it before exercise... But until then.... Haha. I also thought it would be an ideal opportunity to try out some new products I got in my awesome goody bag from the Birmingham Bloggers Meet Up organised by Sara, Hayley and Chloe. So here we have the coveted Benefit Fake Up Concealer and Ginvera Green Tea BB Cream put to the gym test.

    
    

    
    

    With gym make up it's a no brainer to keep it simple, if like me, you have to wear it. Light and effortless is the look we're going for here, in fact light is the exact thing we want because as I've said wearing make up to the gym is a bad move and it will clog pores with sweat and create more spots.... But if you're like me you just feel that little bit more confident with a bit on and you're too stubborn to change yet. So, light and effortless. Aint no one got time for bold lippy and smokey eyeshadow.  I've narrowed it down to 4 products. We will start off with the one everyone wants to know about - The Benefit Fake Up Hydrating Concealer (is it just me that sings a System of a Down song in my head whenever I read 'Fake Up'). It's been very much hyped and as always I'm determined to be a stick in the mud and hate it. However.... I'm quite undecided and little bit apathetic to it's existence. I have no direct complaints about the product. But it is just OK. It's not blown me away and it's not made me want to throw it in the bin. It's a 'meh' product for me. Whilst I see what they've gone for with the core of concealer encased in a hydrating layer of balm like substance, I don't get it. I don't get the necessity. It's a pointless gimmick for me. I say this because the concealer itself is a fairly light and sheer one, so they could of just incorporated the ingredients of the balm in to the actual product instead of making it a feature and still kept the same amount of coverage, as it's not like the concealer bit would lose many of it's factors if they did this. I don't like how it applies a little 'wet' either. For reference I always apply foundation, concealer, then a powder for my base. And this just seems to make a wetness that almost smears away the foundation anyway. I did try it underneath foundation as well but it's so sheer you just end up rubbing it out away from the section you want it. Saying that though there is no doubt it does moisturise and hydrate the area that you have put it on. Unfortunately I also found the coverage to be not much cop either. It's definitely a concealer for just under the eyes and trying to hide blemishes and spots with it was just a bit pointless. I like concealers that conceal everything, multi purpose if you will, I find little point in having a separate concealer for different things I want to conceal! Anyway, the 'gym test'.... I worked out for around an hour and used a good lashing of Fake Up over the Ginvera BB Cream, I set it with a very light dusting of powder. Fake Up claims not to crease or settle in any fine lines or wrinkles, and after the gym I can confirm that it doesn't... much. There was only a small bit settled in one (of my many) under eye creases. So it passes that test hands down. However, for the price of £18.50 I don't think I'd invest in it again and it seems to me like something which won't be around for very long. I know a lot of people have said they loved it but I imagine some companies are already in the process of developing something similar but a lot better. As always with Benefit packaging the design is nice but the result is somewhat cheap. I can tell already that the faux metal casing (which is silver coated plastic) will become very tatty looking in a very short time in my make up bag. If you only wear concealer under your eyes and don't tend to use foundation though, this is probably the concealer for you and very much worth the investment, but if you want a good multi purpose product with coverage I'd say there were better (and cheaper) on the market. I always seem to feel a little disheartened by Benefit Make Up, out of a number of make up products I've tried I can only think of 1 or 2 which have impressed me, but their skincare is literally amazing and I cannot praise it enough. The company is very much on of those where their attitude is their latitude and I know no matter how many things I try I will continue to give their new products a go because they're just a friendly company! This wasn't for me so I will be sticking to my Daniel Sandler Concealer for my spots anyhoo as even though that is a slightly higher price, it's an extremely good coverage and comes complete with foundation as well!

    
    

    
    

    The Ginvera Green Tea BB Cream is a product everyone has been harping on about for over a year now and I didn't want to jump of this little train of joy, but after trying it I'm gonna be freaking driving the train of joy for this bad boy. It's probably one of the best BB creams I've tried (and there's been a few I tell thee!) and up until now the oversea's brands have been awesome, with the Skin79 one of particular note. With four tiny spots dotted around my face it smooths over and creates a lovely even finish and even covers up blemishes well. I would go as far as to say it could even be a permanent replacement for foundation as it's just such a nice texture and finish. It's lightweight and looks so natural, I really can't praise it enough. Even though it does cover blemishes well you would need a concealer if you did use this as 'proper make up' depending on how severe and red your blemishes are I guess. but it's truly wonderful stuff. The colour is also not as grey as some Korean BB creams and not as orange as the UK ones, it's a brilliant neutral shade to suit most skin tones I'd say. As soon as I get enough PayPal credits (because paypal isn't money, right?) I'm going to invest in the full size one, which does unfortunately retail for around £20 a pop, but considering how little I need to use for full coverage it may be a more cost effective make up base in the long run! After a gym session it was still going strong and hadn't melted with all the sweat and I really hadn't seen a massive difference in the before and after really, which shows this sucker has staying power! Has anyone else tried any Korean BB Creams? Which would you recommend?

    
    

    
    

    The final two products I won't go into much detail over as they're pretty bog standard and I'm sure I've written about them before. The Cargo Cheek Activator is a really lovely liquid blush which squeezes out a white coloured creamy liquid, but when you rub it over cheeks it creates a nice natural pink hue, it's really light weight a nice and to be honest I only started using it to use it up! But now I've popped it on a few times I've fallen a bit in love with it and it's the perfect blush to compliment the BB cream base! I might scout out ebay to see if there's any of these on as I don't think Cargo do them any more which is a shame! The Rimmel Glam Eyes Mascara I got in a goody bag at some point and it's a mediocre mascara at best, it's a nice dark black tone but just doesn't give length and volume that I like, so it's nice to just throw on when you're not too arsed about the end effect but also want to look like you do have eyelashes haha. Even though it's not waterproof it didn't really shift when at the gym, apart from a bit of flaking under the eye. Oh and just so you can see what I'm on about let's show an extreme close up of my eye post gym session..... (this probably proves to you my age too, I may look young but these crinkles are WEATHERED...) As you can see there is a small bit of concealer settled in one of the lines. I also swatched Fake Up over my porridge scar on my hand so you can see the consistency a little better, but the image doesn't really show the 'wetness' I'm on about. You will also see that my under eye is pretty dark there... Bear in mind this was 9am on a Sunday morning! Ha.
    
    

    
    

    Overall, I know, pretty lame blog post harping on about what can only be described as gym vanity, but hey! It's worked out well to road test a few lines for you huh? And even if you don't go to the gym wearing make up, at least you now know which items can stand the test of sweat for this glorious summer we're having..... Oh wait.

    
    

    
    
  • Hair Care Bunch.

    Like most girls I am forever changing my hair care routine looking for the next best thing to make my hair the ultimate shiny, sleek, super, follicle filled, sensation of joyous goodness (and also one of the perks of being a 'beauty blogger' is that you get to try a lot of hair care.) Over the past few months I've been using this little combination and it seems my hair is improving in condition by the day. I don't think some of the products are the best products I've ever used, but as part of a daily hair care routine they are certainly doing the trick to maintain my hair in a really affordable way. 

    
    

    
    

    I'm a massive fan of pre shampoo treatments and love trying new ones out. I think the main reason is because they all seem to be really very good. When you use a new intensive conditioning mask you always run the risk of them not washing over properly or being too heavy on your hair, whereas with the pre shampoo treatments you know you're going to be washing it out and it does all the repairing goodness without the heavy residue. I've been using the Tiana Argan Fresh Coconut TLC Hair Treatment on and off for a few months now. Coconut Oil is my new found favourite all round treatment and I have a massive tub of bog standard pure Coconut Oil in the kitchen that I occasionally use as a skin or hair treatment too! The Tiana range is a lovely affordable range of Coconut oil based products which are all fairtrade too! This particular treatment costs £12.99 and will literally last FOREVER. I've used it so much and due to the solid formula which turns into a liquid oil in the warmth of your hands you never find yourself being too over zealous with it! I try and put pre wash treatments on over night to make sure they really nourish the hair. The second and third products I've been using aren't anything special at all. I always find Tresemme products to be really boring and not very good. I know they're cheap and everything but you can really tell. Although saying that the Keratin Restoring Shampoo isn't a complete write off as I did enjoy their conditioner, which is very rare for me to say about their ranges. When it comes to shampoo I'm not too fussy as they never seem to make a difference to my hair. The Tresseme platinum strength conditioner was actually a product I went out of my way to buy and I've gotta say I'm disappointed and as far as conditioning goes the Keratin Smooth Conditioner did a lot better job. However, it's not completely terrible and does smooth out your hair. Both are OK for daily use for my hair type anyway.

    
    

    Finally, I needn't even tell you how amazing the Macadamia Oil Range is huh? The Healing Oil Spray is a new one for me, but I have been using the Macadamia Oil Treatment in a little sample size for ages and it really does seem to transform my hair somehow, but I do feel I end up using a little too much of it. With the Healing Oil Spray you tend to use a lot less and it's really easy to disperse over wet hair and brush through. You can pick this up for £14.74 over on Hair Trade  which seems to be the best website for getting all of the range below RRP at the moment! This should last forever as it's a generous 60ml. I don't think it's much different to the standard Macadamia Oil treatment and my hair really does agree with the entire range.

I was going to do an outfit of the day style one, but apart from popping on my new gym outfit I was at a loss, and I don't think that would have been too interesting at all! I've seen tons of 'beauty' related question tags flying around so I thought I'd take that little idea and turn it into a music related one instead. At the moment I am absolutely loving Alt J - Something Good and Breezeblocks, they are my favourite the album (I can't stand Matilda, everyone seems to really like that song though?!).     The last album I physically bought from an actual shop was Forever Changes by Love (with Arthur Lee). It's a pretty rad folky rock band from the 60's. It's one of the only album's I don't skip tracks on and I love the lyrics to some of the songs, how it's all floaty folk rock with some really dark lines. The last album I downloaded was Alt J An Awesome Wave.
    5. What song can you not get out of your head?  The Wham Rap.

What was the last single you downloaded?  I don't really download any music, but the last single of note in my life was the Yeah Yeah Yeah's new one Sacrilege.  It's not even that great but it's a little catchy, and I've no idea what's going on in the video apart from Lily Cole is in some kind of turmoil, shame it's not Keira Knightley instead though. 
    7. What is your favourite band right now? I keep thinking about Voxtrot. I wouldn't say they're my favourite band right now though, it's just this weird time of year where the sun is trying to shine and Voxtrot are the ultimate sunshine band.
    8. What is your favourite type of music? I like a lot of different kinds of music. I don't like to pigeon hole in to one particular genre. I don't like genre snobs. Like, a guy I used to go to uni with absolutely slagged off anything that wasn't metal and wouldn't design anything that didn't fit into this faux persona, everything had to have skulls on, and anything that wasn't 'rock' wasn't cool.... I don't mind people having their own thing, but when that means you belittle anyone who doesn't like the same type of music as you do and segregate yourself just to be edgy it's a little bit sad. I'd also had shits that were more metal than he was. The best line was when I was listening to Slipknot and he said ''You don't look like the type that would listen to Slipknot'' I could not have been more relieved. I'm a music fan, that means I like music, not the pseudo lifestyle that goes with the particular styles I want to shoe horn myself in to. (wow, that was a little ranty, huh?)

    11. What was the best gig you've ever been to?Kanye West!!! At The Big Chill Festival 2 years ago. I wasn't a big Kanye fan before seeing him, but The Big Chill has been my favourite festival ever and it made me fall in love with Kanye. I did see him with Jay Z on the Watch The Throne tour and it just wasn't as good. There were no ballet dances for Christ's sake! Also 2 Many DJ's at The Big Chill and Leeds Festival were the bomb. I just love 2  Many DJ's a little bit too much  in general though though.
    12. And finally, if there was one band/album/song you would recommend everyone listening to RIGHT NOW, what would it be?Probably the Juno Soundtrack actually! It's a nice light mix and has Belle and Sebastian on, so you can't go wrong.

  • L'Oreal Skin Perfection?

    Ah, L'oréal. I cannot say that it is a brand that particularly stands out for me overall for skincare. Off the top of my head I can't really think of any L'Oréal skincare products that I've had in the past actually (although there's bound to be a heap of them that I have simply forgotten about or just not realised they were L'Oréal). I spotted the L'Oréal Skin Perfection range the other day in Asda when I was having a brief browse for a new face wash. I've been using the blue Soap & Glory Gel one, which I forget the name of, for some time now and it's been a fairly good wash overall - it removes make up and doesn't give me an abundance of spots.  I've also been trying out the DHC cleansing oil too for the past few weeks and it's been quite alright surprisingly! I decided to pick up the L'Oréal Skin Perfection 15 Second Miracle Cleansing Oil based on the success of the DHC alone, and alongside that I also succumb to the blogging hype once again, by nabbing the L'Oréal Micellar Water too.

    
    

    
    

    Starting off with the 15 Second Miracle Cleansing Oil, I have gotta begin with stating that I actually LOVE it. It seems to work a lot better than the DHC version, by cleaning all traces of my make up off and making my face feel so fresh! Granted, it's only been a few days, but I've had no breakouts and the day after my skin appears so much smoother under my make up. It seems to add a bit of radiance to my face and doesn't dry the skin out at all. Unlike the DHC oil the L'Oreal version does seem to create a slight white froth when you rinse it, the consistency is also a little more watery than the DHC oil but you tend to use a similar amount regardless (which is two squirts in my case, and I've got big cheeks). I did find that you do need to massage a little bit before rinsing, but it does say it takes 15 seconds for the miracles to happen after all. For £5 from Asda I simple cannot praise it enough for my skin type (which is dry yet spot prone, which couldn't be further away from being awesome). One thing that people may be wary of is the use of Mineral Oils in beauty products though. Mineral Oils don't bother me at all (and if they make my face as glorious as this has done I might use more, eh!) but I know they bother some. After asking Sugarpuffish (the guru of all things natural in any product, like, ever) she told me about them (in 140 characters or less) and to sum it up, I kind of gathered than mineral oil in skin products is a bit like silicones for hair products - ''it creates a barrier on skin & isn't absorbed so that could cause irritations as skin can't breathe or heal itself'' -  which I suppose could have it's good and bad sides. I would imagine (from a completely ignorant and uneducated point of view) that as it's a wash it won't be as much as a barrier on the skin as you are rinsing it off, but then in my head I think, well maybe a barrier for the skin would be beneficial to avoid your pores getting blocked? I've no idea, but feel free to comment to help others to understand the pro's and con's of Mineral Oils?! Anyway, read more about Mineral Oils and petroleum products by visiting Sugarpuffish's blog and also for a flipside I have found this article which explains what mineral oils are and has some interesting points about using them with drier skin too. It's quite interesting to read about what's in your beauty products and understand them fully (when you're procrastinating away from using your new gym membership anyway that is). If you do fancy trying a cleansing oil without mineral oil in then do give the DHC one a go as from what I gather it's free of any beauty nasties!

    
    

    
    

    I guess what most people are more interested in right now is the Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution. I've gotta say, up until now I've not succumb to this Micellar water hype, every blogger and their cat is harping on about this Bioderma lark like it's the holy grail. I've not really been that interested in them for two reasons; 1: I like to spend money on things that don't just look like water and 2: I don't like the idea of just using a solution to cleanse and clean my face without washing it. I bought this mainly for use in the morning though and for £3 I really couldn't complain. Despite washing my face every night properly I always neglect to do it in the mornings. So I thought this would be ideal for that. Now saying that, I have tried it to remove make up and it does definitely work! You just have to make sure that you kind of hold the cotton pad on the make up for a few seconds before wiping. It does dissolve the make up really well and removed eye make up no problem, just don't be too hasty by wiping immediately as you just end up with a massive smudged mess. Despite it being really good at removing make up, I still don't feel right not washing my face though! Another thing I'm not keen on is using so many cotton wool pads on a daily basis. To remove my make up fully it did take two attempts, so moving forward I'd probably just use this after washing with the cleansing oil if I feel the need to. I will be using it in the mornings though just to feel super fresh as it's very good at that too!
    
    

    
    

    Over all I'm pretty chuffed I picked these up and gave in to a hype in an inexpensive way. The L'Oréal Micellar Water was a mere £3 in Asda and the L'Oréal Skin Perfection 15 Second Miracle Cleansing Oil was £5, although I have seen them on offer in Superdrug for slightly cheaper at the moment too! 

    
    
  • Croc It Like It's Hot

    Oh yes, the CROCS are back. I bought this super cute (I don't care what you say) pair of Crocs last summer from the Crocs Outlet at Cheshire Oaks. I hear ya, a multitude of scrunched up noses and 'ewwww' noises are coming at me through my wifi connection as I type.... But I tell you, your feet simply haven't LIVED until you have tried on a pair of Crocs. They're like a pillow for the FEET. They're the epitome of comfort and I promise you, your entire opinion and life will change once your soles have come in to contact with such footastic luxuries. Or maybe I'm exaggerating,  but still, next time you see some in a shop just try them on, you can pretend it's for a laugh, but inside you will be sobbing when you can't summon the guts to purchase them.     I'm not gonna lie, it feels completely weird not wearing my favourite winter boots now the weather is finally changing. I'm slowly but surely weaning myself back onto to non boot footwear, and digging through my collection I rediscovered these today. I really did forget I had them but as soon as I slipped them on again I felt like a slightly less glamorous Cinderella. I thought they'd be a nice change anyway and nipped to Asda in them. The other thing I wore today was this Orla Kiely x UNIQLO dress. I have 3 of these dresses in the different Orla Kiely designs and really love how easy they are to wear.  And the price when they came out! (Coming in at just under £20 each if I remember correctly). One thing I didn't love though, was that when I was half way around Asda I thought people were looking at my rockin' Crocs... Turns out people were staring AT MY ASS ON FULL SHOW after the friction between the dress material and my tights made it ride up over my cheeks. NICE. Luckily I was wearing big pants and it was an Asda in Stoke, so all is not lost.

  • Sneaking in the Healthy Eating

    I will start off by categorically saying that I do not believe in diets. No way, no how. You will never catch me taking up the latest trend in fad diets. I am very open when it comes to food and will try most things twice (first time for the initial tasting, second just to make sure what I thought) and being on some kind of restriction simply isn't my bag. Although saying that I do understand that due to allergies and other factors some people may have to cut certain food groups out, you poor lambs, I totally feel for you! I do believe in long term changes in your general diet though - cutting out the second bag of crisps and opting for an orange instead is one thing I've started to do recently. But to cut out crisps completely? Oh no, no way. Anyway. I was offered the chance to try these Nakd Bars and Raisins and I must admit, they're always something I pass by on the shelves. I'm not sure why as the flavours do sound pretty delicious. But I guess just through ignorance I've bypassed them. When this little selection dropped on my doorstep I couldn't wait to crack them open! I've changed my afternoon chocolate bar to one of these for the past week or so to see if I can hack life without the galaxy caramel fix.....

    
    

    
    

    I purposely chose the mixed box just because I couldn't decide which flavours to try. And I've gotta say I'm quite glad I did. The bars are pretty hit and miss for me in terms of flavour (it's a good job there's two of each though so I can confirm whether or not I like them!). Some are very much an acquired taste and texture. I thought the Chocolate Orange one would be my favourite, but I really disliked the flavour of it over all. The best bar in the package for me was the Cashew Cookie! Which was utterly delicious. But apparently the Chocolate Orange one is a favourite and best seller, so who am I to argue? The texture is very odd as well, I was actually expecting a cereal bar, but they're soft and a little gooey in texture. This is a bit weird at first but when you chow through a few (not all in one go of course!) you get used to it. It's kind of a texture that isn't a common one I suppose? As I can't think of another food/snack substance that is similar. All the bars are dairy, wheat, gluten and sugar free, so pretty much ideal if you want something sweet that isn't too unkind to the hips. When you consider some can be counted towards your 5 a day too, it's a fair compromise.

    
    

    
    

    
    

    One thing I absolutely LOVED in the box was the infused raisins. There was Cherry, Lime and Cola. I was a little hesitant about the Cola ones at first but they are delicious! I wouldn't have expected to like these at all really, because let's face it, there is no compromise for a nice can of full fat coke, but no these are so moreish and yummy. I ate both bags in one go, whoops. The Cherry ones were OK, but kind of a medicinal flavour whereas the Lime were just the right amount of tang. Time for the gross out comment of the blog post; I did find this past week or so I have been a little more 'regular' in the pooping department, which can never be a bad thing- shows the system isn't backing up eh! But some of the bars do contain a lot of dates and they're quite good at the ol' digestion thing aren't they? 

    
    

    
    

    The Natural Balance Foods website is full of tasty treats like these, including Protein Bars and those freaking wonderful infused raisins! Which I'm actually pretty gutted I like so much as I'm going to have to stock up on the Cola ones right now. They're absolutely delicious.

    Continuing my little foray in to the world beyond 'beauty blogging' I really am doing a good job of mixing up my content lately (or so I think). I really don't want my blog to be solely based around make up, it's just sooo fickle and stale for me lately. So unless something is super good, or super bad I won't be bringing you any 'meh' make up/beauty product reviews from now on. I say that now, but just you wait, in two weeks I'll be back to telling you about some mediocre lip balm you have little to no interest in. I don't suppose many remember that my blogging started up again about 2 years ago (I've had this blog for many years before that) with a blog based just on food (called Terri Tries Twice, RIP), but then I combined the two into this one and beauty posts soon took over?! Anyway another outfit of the day (I'm aiming to do one weekly now, despite loathing slightly having my actual face/body on blog posts) this one features two of my new favourite bargain buys:

    
    

    
    
    

    The first bargain to brag about is the super coveted cat watch, yes you've seen it everywhere lately haven't you? I wasn't going to bother getting one, until I found them in New Look on a two for one offer. Meaning I got two for £9.99, with a bargain like that I just couldn't leave it be. So I nabbed the one with the leopard print/tortoiseshell strap and never looked back. I do have an unhealthy obsession with watches, and own around 20, but tend to just wear my one fossil watch. I just find them all too precious to wear. Second bargain was this khaki shirt dress.  I picked it up from TK Maxx and it was reduced to a fiver! I love dresses like this as they're fairly flattering for my shape. I really should crack the iron out at some point in my life though, since moving home I actually bought an iron (first time in 6 years of flying solo) and it's still in the box in a cupboard somewhere....

    
    

    
    

    Teamed with a mustard yellow belt (a primark staple) and these super cute shoes from Debenhams kids section, I thought this was a nice little ensemble for the weather transition that keeps trying to happen lately, but alas the sun never shines and I have to revert back to covering up with cardigans and coats for the foreseeable future. I also picked up some of that new fangled Barry M textured nail varnish (told you I couldn't keep away from beauty related blogging for too long) I really like the finish and the colour but does anyone else find it gets kind of dirty after a day or so??     I was browsing a website called Retronaut the other day, and found a few images that made me do a little chuckle at how advertisements and erm, life, used to be. I felt a little compelled to share with you some of the highlights that made me smile the most, including these first ones which are out takes from a booklet in the 1930's entitled 'Tips for Single Women'.     Chocolate, Red Wine and Spas as part of your Healthy Lifestyle

    
    

    As far as a healthy lifestyle goes, it can be pretty hard to stay shipshape when a busy life and

    a high pressure job exhaust your mental resources. However, it has been repeated over and

    over again that it’s important to take care of your health and limit your stress levels.

    
    

    In recent years there has been an increase in the number of options available to those

    conscious of their health, but, as the market for a healthy lifestyle increases it can sometimes

    get a bit overwhelming. This is most seen when visiting a health food shop laden with a

    million different variations of the same food type, the choice can be overwhelming.

    
    

    In case you didn’t know, April is Stress Awareness Month, so here we hope to give you three

    quick tips that will make you healthy lifestyle choices easier, and on top of that, are all quite

    enjoyable.

    
    

    Chocolate

    
    

    First up we have the ever so debated chocolate and its apparent health benefits. There have

    been a number of studies looking at the benefits of consuming chocolate and one of the most

    comprehensive research papers has to be from the Journal of Proteome Research. The study

    concludes that:

    
    

    “The daily consumption of dark chocolate resulted in a significant modification of

    the metabolism of healthy and free living human volunteers with potential long-term

    consequences on human health within only 2 weeks treatment. This was observable through

    the reduction of levels of stress-associated hormones and normalization of the systemic stress

    It would thus seem that there is a negative correlation between stress levels and chocolate

    consumption, which is awesome for chocolate lovers as long as dark chocolate is your

    temptation. Of course, these benefits do not have such an impact when over-consumed;

    eating dark chocolate within moderation is the key here to good health.

    
    

    Red Wine

    
    

    Red wine has for a long time been seen as a health-fuelled alcoholic drink, all the way back

    to the Egyptians, where it has been cited as a medicinal product. Although, an appeal to

    tradition is not proof of its actual health benefits, but recent studies have shown that it there

    are stress reducing benefits to be had from enjoying a glass of your favourite. According to

    Paul E. Szmitko and Subodh Verma of the American Heart Association

    
    

    “The regular drinking of red wine has been suggested as the explanation for the ‘French

    paradox,’ the relatively low incidence of coronary atherosclerosis in France as compared with

    other Western countries, despite the generally high intake of saturated fat in the French diet.”

    
    

    The research suggests another negative correlation, this time between red wine consumption

    and coronary atherosclerosis – the clogging of the arteries, which is a bonus for those who

    regularly enjoy a glass of red. On top of red wine’s main health benefits it has also been said,

    by Kirstin Hendrickson, to have “important health-promoting qualities intrinsic in its ability

    to reduce stress and produce feelings of relaxation.” So along with reducing your chances of

    coronary atherosclerosis, red wine is also a great way to get rid of some built-up stress. Like

    chocolate, this isn’t an excuse to over consume red wine – be sure to always enjoy alcohol in

    moderation.

    
    

    The final easy-to-control treat for limiting stress levels and increasing your health are day

    spas. Studies have shown, according to WebMD, the stress relieving benefits of a spa can:

    
    

    “[…] translate into better health. In one study of more than 3,300 Japanese government

    workers, frequency of spa use was linked to better physical and mental health, including

    better quality sleep and fewer sick days.”

  • Mecha Kawaii Shoes!

    I got quite a few people asking about these LYDC platform wedge shoes when I instagrammed and tweeted about them yesterday! They're pretty glorious aren't they? And I'm sure they'll be included in a few outfit posts in the near future, but for now they can have a dedicated blog post especially for their beautiful selves. I bought them off eBay last week and they arrived yesterday, they are even better in real life than pictures can justify! Although I'm sure some may find them a little sickly (I usually would detest this kind of thing) somehow the tacky shiny finish, with the candy colours and cute bow all come together to form a mecha kawaii (that means 'omgggg so cute!!!! in Japanese according to a Japanese girl I used to live with) pair of shoes.

    
    

    
    

    What I enjoy most about these shoes is the cut out wedge style of heel. I've been after this particular heel for a while now. I'm not sure where I first spotted it or what shoes it was on, but I knew this heel and I were meant to be. I know a lot of people 'frown upon' peep toe shoes and tights, but I personally love this look. I like the idea of going against the grain and wearing things like sandals and cut out shoes with black tights just for the contrast, as I do love a bit of contrast. They're really quite comfortable too. I do find getting shoes a pain as I have slightly wide feet, but these didn't squeeze or hurt one bit as I frolicked around my flat in them for a few hours. 

    
    

    
    

    I'm not sure where I'm going to actually wear these mind, I don't *do* heels in general, especially not in the day, but I may phase them in to my life as I simply can't keep these in my wardrobe. You can pick them up off eBay for around £20 including p+p and the seller I bought them off was UK based. I really wanted the green coloured ones but they were out of stock, but now I've got these I think I made the right choice!
