The 7th Annual Hilton Lobby Backstroke, the closing event of SXSWi 2012.

You have have heard of this before. What started as a joke in 2006 turned into a two-man contest in 2007, a repeat race in 2008, a full-on competition in 2009, an event in 2010 and an absolute shitshow in 2011.

We skipped out on the event’s traditional date & time (late Monday night around 4am) because we heard a crowd of a few hundred (!!) gathered, someone sponsored t-shirts, etc. It felt a little too “big”.

At the same time, it didn’t feel right to skip the event entirely, so Danny and I snuck in a one-on-one race in the middle of Tuesday afternoon (3pm). And so I present, the 7th Annual Hilton Lobby Backstroke…

And if you’re partial to the night sky If you’re vaguely attracted to rooftops I fell in love with this song over the weekend, driving up to Breckenridge under a ridiculously clear night sky. I will probably end up watching “Hannah Takes the Stairs” just because of this song. Sadly, it looks kinda boring. So. I better like it, and it better not ruin this song for me.

I woke up sick today. Which means the sun is setting on my voice sounding normal before my clients start wondering who the new girl is on these recordings. And ultimately, before my voice is worthless. (Save for the erotic hotline call center gig that I have politely declined in years past.) Here’s a little outtake from my last session. The integrity of my voice was exposed at first listen through my Bose headphones, and I didn’t recognize myself. You might hear only a subtle difference, but to me it’s almost not even worth finishing the session. With the amount of coughing and hacking and pausing for sips of water or tea, tracking will take 3 times as long, and editing even longer. Sad times.
