A brief discussion of the Gould belt and the art of massive expansion

For example, why don’t we see a blue shift from binary stars, since half the time the mass exchange between stars is such that the mass is approaching us? In the case of the Gould belt, how can an expansion take place only in two dimensions? Why don’t we observe the K effect coming from either of the double expansions that would make the Olano model compatible with observations? Why is the redshift of early-type stars in clusters always positive? How can the solar limb be redshifted?

I really am horribly off balance. But man, I am geeking all over astronomy and I love it. Dude, the Gould belt? It’s awesome as hell to think about. It really is an anomaly in space and some say that if we can figure it out, we’ll be able to figure out how other things in our galaxy, or even the universe, were born. For a long time, astronomy thought it was an isolated anomaly but now we’re finding out data to support the theory that this exists in every galaxy, just as we’re now seeing that all galaxies have a supermassive black hole in the middle (and we’ve found a couple of galaxies that have two!).

The observable data doesn’t help us figure it out yet. We don’t even know what it is. It could be a giant ring of gas holding stars, or it could just be a ring of stars. It could also be something that was created when dark matter collided with our molecular cloud. Some think that the Gould belt hit a bunch of newborn stars when it was expanding and created stars that grew too fast, lived too fast and created amazing deaths for themselves. Then that there may have been a second event like this.

There’s one problem with that theory though, which is that our own Sun can be found within the Gould belt - either as within the center of the ring, or buried in the ring’s matter. So what, exactly, does that say for us in particular?

Whether it’s moving stars around, aggravating them or merely holding them is a puzzle we’ve never solved. I want to see if anyone’s ever tried comparing the behaviors and mass we interpret it to the same factors for a compact star. A compact star has a large mass and a small radius. What this translates to is that it’s a lot of star in a very small space. If you can imagine a crumb actually weighing about two pounds but not looking any bigger than another crumb, then you’ve got it. So if the Gould belt’s expansion may be limited in dimensions, then we’re taking the same rules and applying it to a different kind of space.

‘Non Doppler Redshift of Some Galactic Objects’ (Paul Marmet) has this to say:

Olano and Lindblad et al. have considered a model of a local gas ring related to the Gould belt.  Lindblad believes that not only stars, but also the local gas, form an elliptical expanding ring roughly coincident with the Gould belt.  He considers that the expanding ring of gas of the Gould belt is decelerated by the dragging action of the surrounding galactic gas.  It is assumed that the gaseous galactic disk has a constant thickness and density of gas.  The gas of the Gould belt is arbitrarily assumed to have the shape of an expanding “tube” of gas and that the Sun is located “in the vacuum enclosed by the tube.”  Surprisingly, the height of the tube is considered to remain constant during the expansion (two-dimensional expansion) and is always centered and perpendicular to the galactic plane.  It is assumed that this gas motion acts as a “snowplow model” and sweeps the galactic gas in its path.

In this, the Gould belt is a tube with a stagnant space, while what it contains expands dramatically. Doesn’t that sound familiar? As expected, this is only one theory in the middle of many. But no matter what we consider the Gould belt to be, it’s obvious that it has a high amount of power over the existence and shape of our solar system. School teaches us to think of our Sun as having the most power over us, but that Sun is contained by more than interstellar matter. With the Gould belt’s reputation and past, we find that we need to study and identify it not just because it’s interesting, but because of what it might do to us.

And that’s pretty fantastic.

So a lot of people from twitterstuck have been contacting me worriedly, because I've been on and off the past two weeks. Heck, a lot of people have been contacting me in general being worried. I feel like I owe everyone an explanation for my absences in a way that's more than 140 characters on twitter.

I know I've been extremely unreliable the past two weeks. I feel extremely apologetic for it. I'm sorry, guys. I'm trying my very best but I've got this thing around August and September where I coccoon into myself and hibernate.

I'm trying not to do that this year, so if I can ask people the favour that if they don't see me for awhile, if you can try to check up on me, I would appreciate it. I'm not hiding because I want to. I feel trapped in the fact I keep having trouble contacting more people than myself. Because unfortunately, the thing I hate to say is that yes, there is a reason to worry.

There's a few things going on right now and it's more than just my foot being injured. I have social anxiety disorder and it's striking me pretty bad. So's my depression. And my PTSD. And my anxiety. And I can't sleep at all. Basically, I'm fucked. I see my psych on Wednesday.

Usually I spend a lot of time on twitterstuck when I'm like that but due to the aforementioned cocooning, it's the opposite this time. August and September are when I hide because they're the months that hold three bad anniversaries for me: my mom dying, my mom's birthday, and when I was infected with lyme.

So basically I usually hibernate in a ball and depression and PTSD and nerves, but I really don't want to do that this year. So I'm reaching out to my friends and saying, if you don't see me, please message me? And I really want to say this: I almost never feel safe in that. But this year, I do. I feel very okay in it. I love you guys. You've changed my life and you've changed it for the better. I love you and am thankful for you every day.

I'm going to try harder, because I know I need to for everyone who's worried about me, but also for myself. I'm going to try to steer myself towards a better path. And I thank you guys in advance for being there while I do it. And for everything you've done for me by just being around. Seriously. I love you.

I don't know where anyone is anymore. Who has twitter, who has plurk, who still has a Livejournal and who absconded to Dreamwidth or the like. I've lost track of a lot of people that I don't want to lose track of.

So this is me asking, guys, where is the best place to check on updates for each of you? I love you all and want to keep up with you better than I've been able to. Which I apologize for. So I'm gonna start posting to LJ again but as I said above, I don't know who is doing what anymore. :/

this took so many times to crosspost, i feel like i finished a MAGICAL SCIENCE

I've found a couple Glastonbury clips from the MTV stream on youtube, amazing quality. I'm assuming MTVWorld took it down (and if they didn't, does anyone know a proxy server I can use? In the States, I can't view MTVWorld). I also found a really poor couple which said the Clint Eastwood was Snoop Dogg ft. Gorillaz XD Isn't it the other way around, guys? Anyway, I'll either finish hunting down clips (which I don't like because the clipping is up to the uploader, not the viewer) or see if I can get the full stream somewhere. If I do, I'll give up my annoyance at fandom and upload the whole thing cut and uncut. There are a few people who go out of their way to thank me and ask me if I could take the time for more but it's okay if I can't. Apparently youtube has the power to be the most polite place ever. So I'm going to consider this uploading for those guys, not the ones who are annoyances. :/

I have no idea what the fuck Snoop Dogg is rolling out because it's poor quality, but that may be because I spent the entire thing alternatively trying to puzzle out what the fuck he was wearing or wanting to stick a fez on him so his apparent cosplay of Russ would be complete. :P The whole thing was kind of weird, what with Damon brandishing his melodica in the air like it was a rifle and waving it around, and any sight of the thing (whether or not it was being played) sent the crowd into hysterics. Shit, dude, the melodica is getting respect now? ;.; I AM FINALLY NOT CONSIDERED A LAZY MUSICIAN PLAYING A BASTARD CHILD FOR IT BEING MY SPECIALITY SINCE I WAS 10? Aaaaaah omg.

Damon seems to have shed his usual concert gear (LOL NAAAKEEED) from the jeans and red shirt to a leather jacket, black shirt and black pants of some material. Also he looks like he stole Shaun Ryder's glasses. If he did, I approve of this measure.

Feel Good, INC, I am not sure what he's singing but it is not the concert or album version at all. I think it's Noodle's Demo cut down for time (which is very fitting) but I can't say for sure without a lyrics sheet, of which nobody has made. I'm making my own later. If so, it makes complete sense, the timing could not be more appropriate.

I like how the MC'ing is being handled this year, I hope that once they involve the fictional band members they'll put catchcalls back in. Considering the fact they had so little dates in the Demon Day tour because an MC fucked up so badly (basically, this guy verbally abused the audience and the band and it got bad enough that the concert hall refused to pay them and the rest of the tour canceled out. That's a huge reason of why we had Demon Detour instead), even this makes me happy. It's just a sort of general catch-all, anyone on stage can step in. It's very disorganized appearing but I'm sure Damon and Jamie have it meticulously planned out, because they never do things anyway else (even if they crash and burn in the process).

Guys. Guys. I got a tentative number for my music stipend from school. $3500 is the estimation. I need to plan what to do with this, both instrument and concert-wise. Anyone willing to help, please? :D I'm seeing Gorillaz at leat once in the States and in Mexico if I can manage it. I'll have a clarinet and melodica by then, so they don't figure in. Hrm...

Started out considering Deltron vs Gorillaz.

Drafting a timeline, not editing anything at all:


Went back in and dumped most the tracks, cut it for the idea it wanted to be anyway, which was a mix of Kids with Guns and Fire Coming Out Of A Monkey's Head. Now it's basically a completely different project altogether. Funny how that works sometimes.

I started fucking around with this awhile ago, but it just wasn't working. Up to 1:12 only needs some volume envelopes balanced. The rest has 30 second spots that I am satisfied with sparsed between 'well, THAT is a rough draft'. Really, I should stop being annoyed at myself because this was my second serious attempt at a project. Still. When something isn't working, you get down to the basics.

The problem with what I did instead is that each half by itself is what I wanted, but apparently I developed an entirely different idea today as to how I wanted to do it than last night. But I had fun with it, it just needs some sore spots smoothed over before it can be finished.

Suggestions for either, comments, would be awesome. :D <3

I think it may all be in the draft. The problem with the first is I just made it up as I went along. The second had a template that was only vagually followed in the end, but it still helped a lot.

Maybe I'll tear out all the crap in the Black Parade mix then write a template. I guess that'll work.

Last night's experiment was as thus: write lyrics as they come through, things around you, words that pop up suddenly (even quotations) and make them all fit together with as little editing as possible.

I've been screwing around with Sonic Acid Pro 4.0. Yesterday I created what I think the inside of (milliways)Kaworu's head sounds like. Today I started to work seriously on my first project. I'm doing another with Shiny Toy Guns, but that one's far from posting, yeah :)

No name yet, but here it is. It's only a template right now - any blank spot or odd transitions are going to be adjusted later. I'm replacing Sound Check (Gravity) with Demon Detour: El Mañana. Might twist a bit of another Demon Detour live, 'Clint Eastwood (Live - feat. De La Soul & Bootie Brown)' and a mic soldier riff. We'll see what happens, eh?

The template is basic, but hopefully I can make it sound good.
