The Lemonade Heroes casting call was a raging success and if the developing TV series is anything like this event, it’ll be quite the force to be reckoned with. We at NYC Startup Mixers couldn’t think of a better way to wrap up 2012, talking shop with some of the most interesting and inspiring entrepreneurs and investors this city has to offer. Between the abundance of adult lemonade and a crowd as quality and eclectic as the music selection at Public House last week, it was abundantly clear that if you’re a founder, then you’re a hero…And you’re also really fun to drink with. The next step is to tell a bit more about yourself at http://apply.LemonadeHeroes.com
Pix from the party are now online, click here to view the album and tag yourself!
You are all the real heroes. With your help, we were able to raise over $1,000 for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts through this event!
–
Even if you missed the party, you can still apply!
You’re on our mailing list, but we still need a bit more information to flesh out your profile. There’s a simple set of questions online, which will help us to understand what makes you and your story so great. Here’s what we’re asking for:
A few stats about your revenue, funding, and valuation milestones
A current photo of you (best if it really shows off your character)
A short blurb about a challenge you faced or how you got started
If you’ve really got more stories bursting to come out, you can share some of them too – but all takes to finish your application is about 5 minutes.
Apply to be Featured in the Book or TV Series!
Do a ‘screen test’ on video!
Late January, we’ll have a full production crew, and a much larger venue, for you to show off your personality for our final casting decisions!
Keep an eye out for updates…
And in the meantime, please take a few minutes to answer the questions at apply.LemonadeHeroes.com!
Cheers
The SmartMoney Entrepreneurs How To Get Funding From A Shark! was a tremendous success. Thank you to everyone who was able to make it through the bad weather. There were more than 100 people at the pre-event networking portion, including investors, entrepreneurs, and finance professionals. The CEO vs. Investor battle was packed with useful information for all the entrepreneurs in the room. And of course, the Investor Panel was the blockbuster highlight of the evening. Daymond John hosted the panel with Charlie O’Donnell, Brian Cohen, Alan Brody, and SME CEO Jeremy Andrews.
Check out the photos below!
It was an honor to co-host the official FundingPost Mobile Venture & Angel Conference Afterparty!

The panels for the day:
The panelists discussed trends in Early-Stage Mobile Investing, things that are most important to Investors when they are considering an Investment, the best and worst things an entrepreneur can do to get their attention, grow their business, use crowdfunding, additional advice for entrepreneurs, and, of course, the best ways to reach these and other Investors.

This was just one of the many lines that made last night memorable. We can’t say enough about our speakers and the energy and enthusiasm they brought to this speaker series held at Mercy College. Shout out to Professor Wazi, Founder of Let’s Order Now and President of the Mercy College Entrepreneurship Institute and Ed Weis, Dean of the College of Business for providing an excellent venue for the event – and even better food, wow, Mediterranean shrimp skewers?! bonus!
Some of the quotable moments of the night:

“Don’t ever confuse activity with achievement.” Gary Reloj, Founder, OMG Foodie | @OMGFoodie
“Make friends first, do business later, and shut up.” Mike Civello, Business Development, Plum Benefits on building strong business relationships | @plumbenefits
“You have to know the why. Guess what you’re not special. Your customers are being bombarded. You have to know what makes you stand out.” Michele Ashley, Founder, COEUR Coaching | @ubercoach
You can also find more memorable quotes on our Twitter account.
It was a great evening with a mix of Founder tips and stories, professional how-to’s, and networking. We look forward to hosting more of these and welcome any feedback or suggestions you all would have for topics, speakers, format, etc. – after all, we put these on so that you can learn as much as possible and connect with the right people that can help turn your dream to a reality.
So here’s to passion, drive and an insanity that only few can understand. Here’s to entrepreneurs!
Cheers,
Haithem

Fun times at the Beekman Beer Garden!
We ended the summer with an event dubbed ‘Startup Beach Party…in the city’ featuring beautiful scenery and one-of-a-kind views at the Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club at South St. Seaport in Manhattan. As the weather began to chill, our guests enjoyed one last outdoor ‘hoorah’ networking and socializing with the entrepreneurs, students, and investors in attendance.
The BUZZtheBar team was in full effect offering discounted drink specials through their dedicated bartender for the event. Always a fun time when BUZZtheBar is involved!
New NYC Startup Brightbox had their (pretty awesome) smartphone charging station set up so we didn’t ever have to worry about losing juice!
HUGE props to our photographer, Cornelle Pearson of The Fourth Coming for the amazing pictures and moments captured that are shared below.
All in all a great event. Thanks to everyone who came out, hope to see you again soon!!

In case you missed it the 3rd installment of the www.amusemi.com NYC Tech Picnic series went off like a charm with great weather, great company, and hassle-free eats thanks to Let’s Order Now.
NYC Startup Mixers partnered up with Amusemi – an interesting twist on a dining/networking club made up of designers, entrepreneurs and friends alike – to host members of the NYC Tech community at a picnic on Pier 64 of Chelsea Piers in Midtown Manhattan.
A big thanks to the NYC Startup Let’s Order Now – www.letsordernow.com/nycsm – who provided the attendees food by teaming up with a local restaurant to have our food delivered to us at the picnic! Let’s Order Now’s allows everyone to order and pay for their food individually while offering a discount to all who order, consider it social ordering with a group discounting built in. The more people who order the greater, the discount we all receive. Needless to say, this was a big hit sparking intrigue among the event-goers.
Amusemi did a great job of bringing together some great people in the NYC Tech community. Several developers were in attendance, some with their own startup, and others in search of a cool project to take on – calm down business founders I can hear you salivating now :p
Latin American startup, Buscand2, was also in attendance sharing with us a cool social networking platform with gamification elements built in. (how cool is that?!)
All in all, the scenery could not be beat and we look forward to more events like these in the future.
Thanks again to our sponsors – Flurry - increasing user engagement and maximizing monetization (www.flurry.com) and Social Chorus – a Social SaaS and Services Company (www.socialchorus.com).
Sadly with the summer winding down, our time for outdoor events is limited, but it’s not over yet! We just launched our last summer series event which will be at Beekman Beer Garden in South St. Seaport on Wednesday, September 19th. There’s no better place to close out a summer of great networking than at the scenic Beekman Beer Garden, we hope to see you there! Register at www.startupbeachparty.eventbrite.com
Our 2nd installment of our summer networking series was held at the beautiful Hudson Terrace overlooking the Hudson River on the west side of Manhattan. This event featured even more students from NYU, Columbia, NYU-Poly, Baruch and many more. After word got out of our last event, our partnerships and sponsorships started growing. We partnered with the Columbia Entrepreneur’s Organization as well as NYU Stern School of Business to make sure that we were bringing together the brightest young minds in the NYC community to network with our friends/colleagues in the NYC startup space. The event was sold out 2 weeks prior, and we had the (good) problem of needing to keep up with the high demand for tickets! We upgraded our venue to the rooftop of Hudson Terrace where we were able to spread out and have enough room to network and party! Special invited guests to this event included Tech @ NYU, Columbia Business School, and members of the press.
To many of our members delight, Wednesday’s crowd included a lot more computer programmers and developers. Based off of the feedback from our prior event, we partnered with an app called herematch, which enables people to connect with each other based on their skills at events in real-time. We also made an effort to have people in the crowd making sure that the right connections were being made. We expect to continue improving on this front, and we welcome any feedback or suggestions you may have!
Our sponsors, including Uber, who sponsored black-car service rides for all attendees to/from the event, definitely brought much more to the table for our members! Bring10.com was a hit with their drink promos and swag. We also partnered up with the Columbia start-up, BUZZtheBar, who had their own dedicated bartender that allowed users to pay on their phones and skip the lines to get their drinks! A new, up and coming startup, with an innovative idea, LetsOrderNow.com was in full effect offering free meals to all attendees and even running a contest for free lunch for a lucky participant and their whole office!
Special thank you to our event partner, Marte MultiMedia, who’s designs made the signage and event décor give a unique personality to the night!
And a big shout out to our hosts, Hudson Terrace, for the great venue and beautiful rooftop setting.
Thank you to all of our sponsors for making this a special evening and we hope you all had fun and made some great connections!

We kicked off our summer mixer series with an event at Village Pourhouse. This was a fun one and met a lot of great people. It was very exciting to see the positive response that we received from the 200+ attendees advocating for more of these types of events. The crowd included students from NYU, Columbia, NYU-Poly, Baruch, Fordham as well as entrepreneurs, startup founders/employees and investors. The idea behind this event was to bring together the business/technology schools in NYC with the startup scene. We especially take pride in the attendees who contacted us after to let us know of the opportunities that came about as a result of being there, some of them even landed jobs! We also heard of a lot of new business ideas exchanged that night. Feedback was that we needed a bigger venue and more facilitation of connections in real-time, we started on working on that right away.
A special thanks to our bartender, Vallery, who kept the drinks flowing all night!
And last but certainly far from least, thank you to our sponsors who made this event that much more fun by being great hosts at their tables:
