Enjoying a Kenya Kaguyu AA washed coffee roasted by Hasbean

Lovely space, but soon to be moved a few hundred yards up the road

Already sporting an EP Strada and selection of espresso and filter coffees from a number of UK roasters the new space sounds interesting

This coffee shop has now converted to grind on demand too.
Some smart investment in staff training is also paying off.
Let's hope this is a sign of things to come.

Flat White at Farm Collective

Finally made it here. Cannot believe it has taken me so long.

There's an amazing smell coming from the hot foods cabinet.

Superb service from all the roasters I ordered from yesterday. Coffee arrived today and smells divine.

Most of this is headed for NZ if I can resist temptation...

Hasbean: Kicker, Jabberwocky, Blake, Jailbreak and Bolivia Finca Loayza
James Gourmet: Kenya Karimikui x 2
Sea Island Coffee: Hawaiian Kona, Jamaican Blue Mountain, Costa Rican Geisha, Tongan (oops - consumed already & wow!)
Square Mile Coffee: Suke Quto and Agoga

More arriving this weekend...

Enjoying a woodneck of Square Mile Kangocho AA prepared by Fabio at Notes.

Soothing music and a chilled vibe filling the air, but the fruity aroma with a touch of chocolate is hard to ignore.

Lots of smiling faces enjoying their pre-show drinks..

If you're in the Leicester Square/Covent Garden area drop into 31 St Martins Lane and get out of the cold.

Nestled in amongst the shops and market stalls of Brixton Village, Federation Coffee is a buzzy cafe with their own Toper roaster and good supply of Nude Espresso beans.

I'm enjoying a filter brew of El Salvador natural. Fruity with huge strawberry hit and good body.

Friendly staff with a great vibe. A must visit on the London coffee circuit.

When pouring latte art do you consider which hand will be used to drink the coffee?

In this instance using your right hand means the art is facing away from you.

If poured the other way around you would see it as you're drinking it.

Food for thought

40 Store Street, London

A light, bright and airy cafe

Work in progress but lovely tables and stools, a mix of chic and industrial. Minimalist but I like it.

It's not often you see me on the other side of the lens, but when you do it's normally holding a coffee

Finishing the last of the bag. Still good tangerine and blackberry flavours.

I could have got away with another few days, but as it was so delicious 2nd and 3rd coffees in quick succession were not uncommon.

Also tasty as a Hario V60 pourover.

Well done Square Mile team

Dobostorte and Cheesecake with Vanilla Ice Cream were the desserts we chose at this traditional Viennese cafe.

We also chose the safe options of Eiskaffee and Eisshokolade instead of the Wiener Melange.

An arty cafe where everything is for sale, including the furniture, fixtures and fittings. A neat concept.

In early December I attended a tutored tea tasting at the Tea and Coffee Festival at Southbank (behind the Royal festival Hall) and afterwards got chatting to Yael Rose, who runs The Chocolate Festival at the same location. She invited me along to this weeks event,  so yesterday I popped along to check it out. [...]

This morning I am enjoying a lovely coffee roasted by eightpointnine – a new entrant to the UK coffee roasting scene. That in itself is not newsworthy, but what eightpointnine does differently is makes coffee blending accessible to the masses. A visit to their website opens up a range of taste possibilities, without having to [...]

CoffeeTools App (£2.49) Produced by bTree Media & EspressoParts (Jon Stovall @coffeetools / http://coffeetoolsapp.com) Over the past couple of weeks I have been using the CoffeeTools App to record my espresso extractions with good results so far I like the easy to use interface, navigable with one hand (on the iPhone or iPad) which calculates [...]

I’ve made it a mission this year to try everything put in front of me where taste and smell is concerned. I know what I like to eat and found I often stuck to the same dishes in restaurants, but in taking the challenge to try anything once have discovered that some of the old [...]
