Athena & Jonny
by SharkPig
Last summer, I did something very Hollywood-typical — I married the lead actress in our feature film. In my defense, we had been dating for far longer than I would have even considered myself a filmmaker. We were lucky to have the extremely talented SharkPig shoot our wedding, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this. Enjoy!

Athena & Jonny Dance Off

And here’s the video of the reception.
Man… this was a good day.

It is the function of art to renew our perception. What we are familiar with we cease to see. The writer shakes up the familiar scene, and, as if by magic, we see a new meaning in it.
Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Design is knowing which ones to keep.

We made this short film 10 years ago for the 2001 Pepperdine Video Festival and ended up winning the award for Best Comedy. As college freshmen, this was one of our very first collaborations. Feeling a little nostalgic this week (has it already been 10 years?!), so thought we’d take a little trip down memory lane. We all gotta start somewhere. Enjoy!

A great interview with David Fincher
ROSA by Jesús Orellana
Stumbled on this short animated film by comic-artist Jesús Orellana today. Made with no budget, on his own, over the course of a year. It’s gone on to be featured in a number of prestigious festivals, and is now in development for a feature length film. Amazing talent here.

Why Don’t I Turn The Camera Sideways?
Our buddy, Andy Dreads, cut this cool BMX video of himself using a rather unconventional aspect ratio. He really suffers for his art in this one too. Enjoy!

THE RAID - Red Band Trailer
This trailer is kinda blowing me away right now. Can’t wait for this to come out.

Seeing this kind of stuff gets me excited about Digital Filmmaking. A home computer and a couple digital camcorders is all you need now to blow people’s minds!

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.
We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.
The competitor to be feared is one who never bothers about you at all, but goes on making his own business better all the time.
NAME: Andy Riddle (aka Hayato)
RANK: Member, Co-founder
ROLES: A little bit of this, A little bit of that, Event Photographer, Pep-Talker, Poke-Funner
BIO: I grew up in El Sobrante, CA. It was a pretty standard childhood. Little League. Video Games. The Price is Right. Come the age of 18, college came knocking, so I answered. I spent my days equally at the beach playing Frisbee, and at Pepperdine University, majoring in TV Production.
As fate would have it, (funny didn’t Jonny start this paragraph just the same way), I would be suite mates with FBF Member Jonny McDonald my Freshman year, and the collaboration would start almost immediately. Jonny once broke my camera, but he eventually fixed it.
I graduated in 2004, and started working immediately… at a flower shop. Needless to say, I am no longer there, and clearly I am here.
NAME: Jonny McDonald (aka Jonny Mac)
RANK: Member, Co-founder
ROLES: Writer, Director, Editor, Producer, Errand boy, Cheerleader, Truck Driver, Resident Gearhead
BIO: I grew up in Snellville, GA. Turned out not such a promising place to pursue a career in entertainment. Went to school at Pepperdine University, majoring in Theatre Arts - Directing & Stage Management. Directed some great plays, made a few short films, won a couple accolades — college was good. I pushed myself, and I learned a lot.
As fate would have it, I would be suite mates with FBF Member Andy Riddle my Freshman year, and the collaboration would start almost immediately. We continue to irritate each other to this day. Brilliant with a camera. If he’ll have me, Andy will shoot every movie I make.
Graduated in 2004, started working. Fate again, met FBF Member Brittaney Parbs, the older sister I never had. Sharp, talented, a do’er. She’s the reason anything gets done at all. She’ll surprise you with her creativity.
The three of us are very different, have very different tastes and styles and aesthetics — makes us a good team. What one member lacks, the other has in spades. We’re making a movie. When that one is done, we’ll make another.
