David Kramer‘s water colors are the kind of art that u love instantly — and once you’ve seen them, you’ll never forget them. He just had a solo @ Torch Amsterdam (Next Year in Los Angeles, more info about the show available on the gallery’s website) which we unfortunately missed, but we’ve seen his stuff 2 years ago @ Aeroplastics Brussels and we were impressed. Keep him on your radar!
David Kramer was born in New York City (a small island of the coast of America, as he calls it), where he continues to live and work. From this perch he has a front row seat to view the rest of the country. As experienced by most New Yorkers, America is the part that you have to pass over while flying to the only other city of consequence on the continent, Los Angeles. Los Angeles; the destination city, city of dreams. The place where the sun sets on the American Dream on a daily basis.
“The Nature of Need”, solo show of American neo-pop artist Brian Donnely, a.k.a. KAWS, started this week @ Emmanuel Perrotin‘s brand new Hong Kong space. KAWS, who has a background in graffiti, has gone a long way: his 2010 solo “Pay the Debt to Nature“ @ Perrotin’s Paris gallery sold out already during the opening and besides being a respected artist, he’s also a celebrated product designer (if you don’t have one of his toy figures already, you should consider ;-)).
For The Nature of Need he created new series of paintings that use cropping of the pictorial space, resulting in visually striking colorful grids with a very cool optical effect – take a look at the photos here on the left. The exhibition runs till June 30th, so should u be in town for the Hong Kong Art Fair – go see!

Whymark Avenue in London’s Borough of Haringey is the location of what’s generally regarded as a new piece of Banksy (‘though not authenticated by the artist yet). The stencil depicts a boy sweatshop worker stitching together Union Jack bunting and is said to be targeting the upcoming celebration of Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Check out this great collection of movie titles stills, spanning from 1920s till present time. Plenty of inspiration for Western or Film Noir identities – these two genres have their own category on the site. But first and foremost: overview of title sequences created by the grand master Saul Bass. Vertigo, Ocean’s Eleven, Anatomy of a Murder…, need we say more? Hell, there is no other like him!

Vertigo
Anatomy of a Murder
The Man with the Golden Arm
Ocean’s Eleven
It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World
Pen Pals, solo show of Belgian artist Frederik Heyman opens this Thursday @ Base Alpha gallery, Antwerp. Working with diverse media – Heyman studied graphic design, illustration and photography and works often as fashion photographer – he has managed to build an impressive portfolio of clients (including Bruno Pieters, Christian Wijnants and Henrik Vibskov) in just couple of years time. Find out more about him and his work in an interview @ Dazed Digital and @ Nothing of Me Is Original. And visit the show, of course, coz some things are best seen in real!
Pen Pals runs from 17 May til 30 June 2012.
