Until now, I've only watched public schools "from a distance" because I had NO first-hand knowledge since my son graduated from high school almost 20 years ago. My 15-year old daughter is now in public school for the first time. Of course, I've seen the "output" of our high schools for the last 35 years as a college professor. I myself haven't been in public school for 45 years. Frankly, I don't see much difference in my daughter's education and mine except that they don't have blackboards in the classroom any longer although a technological revolution has occurred in that time! I "drink that kool-aid" as one can easily see from my Academia.edu profile: http://purdue.academia.edu/DrThomasHo and my experiments at: http://www.netvibes.com/learnstream My point is that I wonder what is impeding innovation in education? Perhaps, teachers need some INCENTIVES to INNOVATE! http://amplify.com/u/btp41

They can also skim cards IN YOUR WALLET OR PURSE IF they are equipped with micro-chips! Wrap them in aluminum foil. http://amplify.com/u/aowjz

It's better than a standardized test and an important step toward accountability of higher education. The 21st century offers challenges which will require very different skills than those for which higher education has traditionally prepared students! http://amplify.com/u/annhd

I'm wondering IF it makes sense to begin to get better "organized" with one's friends to promote content via curation. http://amplify.com/u/bm7uk

Do you ever feel like you're "talking to yourself" on Facebook? IF no one's paying attention, then you haven't lost any privacy BUT IF NO ONE's paying ATTENTION, then what's the point (and what's the business model)? Of course, it could just be that we don't have the 'right' friends BUT I suspect it's because most Facebook users aren't very 'thoughtful' about what they're sharing or what they're consuming which is why junk food & fast food hqve done so well and WHY Facebook will do at least as well! I admist i've judged human nature harshly BUT so does this post. As an advocate of personal branding as well as learning, I will focus MY personal efforts on learnIng and I'd even be willing to do it on Facebook where all the cool kids hang out' because that's where the action is! By the way, personal branding should promote authenticity which is certainly true of those who doN'T practice it. Honesty is the best policy! I wonder IF ANYONE WILL PAY ATTENTION to this comment? http://amplify.com/u/blshw

!TW IF he's right, then innovation in education is the high price we're paying to 'pay' for teacher accountability, don't you think? http://amplify.com/u/bl6v9

I'm all for any reform which encourages INNOVATION. Frankly, I don't see much difference between my 15-year old's education and mine (I'm 62) EXCEPT that Blackboard is now a Course Management System instead of something you write on! The Internet enables innovation from online courses, e.g. http://flvs.net, to more recent ones such as Facebook http://bit.ly/dH2J6A which can actually contribute to learning. Innovations such as electronic portfolios http://www.aaeebl.org/ promote accountability via learning assessment which is much more reliable than standardized tests. http://amplify.com/u/bl11p

I had tried Quora before its recent surge, but have been meaning to take another look as I've noticed so many signing up. For my recent efforts to actually build a PLN, its social learning model offers much promise. What do you think? Join me! http://amplify.com/u/bkpqm
