Diabetes Education for the Martial Arts Teacher
The martial arts teacher can play a significant role in teaching members of a community how to avoid this insidious disease.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that 1 in 10 Americans have diabetes Type II now, but the number could grow to 1 in 5 or even 1 in 3 by mid-century if current trends continue.
Experts say that 90% of Type II diabetes is preventable, through proper diet and exercise.
This makes diabetes education a self-defense issue and one the martial arts teacher / school can affect.
DefeatDiabetes.Org has joined forces with martial arts teacher Tom Callos and members of The One Hundred to create a free diabetes teacher training program: Martial Artists Defeat Diabetes Community Action Project (MADDCAP) may be found here.
