OUR FIRE IS ELECTRIC

Part of a WIP that I will never finish. I just enjoyed the expression on her face.
Sometimes driving is nice because:
1. When the other side is in traffic, it’s nice to gloat about it and when it’s dark it’s like a nice long line of stars.
2. It’s a good time to keep on the lookout for alien life forms.

Marina Abramović, “Rhythm 0,” 1974
Marina Abramović is best known for her performance pieces, in which she tries to explore what is possible for an artist to do in the name of art. Her best known piece was the recent “The Artist Is Present,” in which she sat motionless for 736.5 hours over the course of three months, inviting visitors to sit opposite her and make eye contact for as long as they wanted. So many people began spontaneously crying across from her that blogs and Facebook groups were set up for those people.
Her bravest piece, however, is my favorite. This piece was primarily a trust exercise, in which she told viewers she would not move for six hours no matter what they did to her. She placed 72 objects one could use in pleasing or destructive ways, ranging from flowers and a feather boa to a knife and a loaded pistol, on a table near her and invited the viewers to use them on her however they wanted.
Initially, Abramović said, viewers were peaceful and timid, but it escalated to violence quickly. “The experience I learned was that … if you leave decision to the public, you can be killed… I felt really violated: they cut my clothes, stuck rose thorns in my stomach, one person aimed the gun at my head, and another took it away. It created an aggressive atmosphere. After exactly 6 hours, as planned, I stood up and started walking toward the public. Everyone ran away, escaping an actual confrontation.”
This piece revealed something terrible about humanity, similar to what Philip Zimbardo’s Stanford Prison Experiment or Stanley Milgram’s Obedience Experiment, both of which also proved how readily people will harm one another under unusual circumstances.
This performance showed just how easy it is to dehumanize a person who doesn’t fight back, and is particularly powerful because it defies what we think we know about ourselves. I’m certain that no one reading this believes the people around him/her capable of doing such things to another human being, but this performance proves otherwise.
無慈悲な言葉だけが デタラメに町にあふれてる Never more 切なく流れてた声finished it just in time for 3/21! it’s not exactly how i originally planned it but it’s good enough i guess!

Chinese artist Yang Yongliang is known for his sprawling photographic collages that depict the devastating effects of uncontrolled urbanisation and industrialisation. At a distance the works look like traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy but when viewed up close, the peaceful mountains and seascapes are found to be choked with buildings, factories, and machinery.

Omigosh I can finally share this! At SPX last year, I was asked to draw something including the words “TOO KAWAII TO LIVE, TOO SUGOI TO DIE.” Afterwards, Ananth and I asked if we could elaborate on the sketch and make it into some sorta design and then I did.
This is now available as both a tee and a print over at Topatoco if you’re interested! And there’s the rest of our store at Topatoco as well.
don’t let the ficwriters see this
What did you say
“Her eyes gleamed in the light like irradiated blue topaz.”
this is the most beautiful list of eye-descriptors i have ever seen in my life
“Her eyes shined like a jewel, sort of a Padparadscha mixed with White Opal Star Shine in the middle.”
Afterschool Detective Agency and The Mystery of Boneyard Forest by Zack Soto
I recently did a design for a print show at a new gallery, Telegraph in Charlottesville, VA. The show is FILLED with insanely talented artists, I’m honored to be included. David and Kate really seem to have figured out a solid business model: all the prints are silkscreened, available online in good sized but limited editions, they’re big (most are 18x24”), cheap and most importantly, they all came out REALLY NICELY. I’m genuinely stoked with the way this one turned out.
Anyhow, if you want to buy a copy of my print or any of the others, they’re only $28 bux right here.
PS- The Aqua layer on my print is GLOW IN THE DARK! so cool.
So stoked with how this turned out! You can buy it (and other prints from the show) right here!
A pencil case I made for my crafts class! The prompt was to make some kind of container/vessel. Made out of davy board and 36g aluminum.
Bandai Gives Raidou Kuzunoha A Spectacular D-Arts
It is a very good time to be a Shin Megami Tensei fan! Launching off the success of the Persona 4 animation and game trio, figure manufacturers have been pushing headlong into the entire MegaTen franchise. Sure, we’ve gotten a handful of figures in the past, but now there’s a flood! And, happily, it’s not all Persona. In fact, the awesome Raidou Kuzunoha from the Devil Summoner line of games is getting quite a bit of attention–first the MegaHouse figure, and now Bandai is doing a D-Arts of him!

Street Performer Plays Crystal Glasses
An incredible street performer recreates Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen using nothing more than water and wine glasses. I have no idea who this person is, or where he’s from, but this is mesmerising and I’ve never seen anything like it before.

I worked with the Academy and Gallery 1988 to create the official 85 Years of Oscars poster.

The brief was one of the hardest I’ve ever had; find a way to reference every single Best Picture winner from the last 85 years.
Thanks to Gallery 1988 for putting my name forward and organising this whole shebang.
