So I've got the slight issue where I've started several posts but not finished any of them yet.  The likely event is in a couple of months time I'll suddenly post a ton of essays all several thousand words long.  Until then I'm hoping to start syndicating my geohashing adventures to here so that some content is actually getting posted.  I'll get back to writing/editing though rather than talking here.

March 29, 11:59 AM

I frequently find myself in discussions for which I want to add more but either get talked over or don't type fast enough... yeah, I'm that sad.  The other time that ideas of mine blossom out of control is when I go for walks with friends.  Most of these ideas are your general idiotic inanities that count as banter amongst young males.  But occasionally, a gem appears.  This is my attempt to start recording those gems.

Although it may turn into my daily ramblings like my previous blogs, twitter should take care of my need to shout nonsense into the æther.  And with that. I've ran out of inspiration for this and will therefore shut the fuck up and move onto writing a first real post.

March 27, 08:44 PM

But that's fine since there is no content yet.  A couple of posts should be winging their way in and once I complete all the other customisation projects that I've got on the go, mainly my netbook, then this will probably be pretified.  Until then though, I'm just going to post and ignore how god awful it looks right now.  Otherwise there will never be any posts appearing and that just wouldn't be cool.

From the page: "They'd take some time to download if you tried to open them, but it would be less hassle than using an external drive. That design does create the capacity for you to be surprised by how long it takes to access a file, or even to find you can't access all your data." How is that easier than having external hard drives? I am regularly without internet access but I always know where my hard drives are? Why store your films on the cloud to wait 10 minutes downloading them each time when instead you could just have your own media server with a couple of 2TB hard drives plugged in. Any old computer will do this fine and you could potentially save a ton on bandwidth which would offset the cost of buying the extra hard drives.

For most it makes them look cheap. People are more likely to buy a product that has more fancy packaging since they think it is premium and therefore better quality. Sometimes minimalism achieves the effect of appearing premium, in most of these it doesn't though.

Delts: Lacking photos and some categories, still updating.

Location
North edge of a fallow field near Pencaitland, Scotland.

Participants
*Chris
*Rjwd (aka Delts' friend (who has still to sign up))
*Kenny

Plans
Chris and Rjwd will meet up with Kenny and then walk from Pencaitland to the geohash location via Glenkinchie and back on a modified route so that Kenny could get the Tron achievement.

Expedition
Rjwd and myself (Chris) first drove from Haddington to Pencaitland to meet Kenny before setting off on the adventure. A decent days weather made the trip a pleasant jaunt in the country. We took a route which followed an almost figure of 8 for Kenny to get the Tron achievement. A rather short and unadventurous route little happened that was noteworthy. We did stop in Glenkinchie (a local whisky distillery, whose product tastes awesome) and did the usual photo posing. At the location we had a short wait on a tractor vacating the field, none of us could be bothered explaining that we were from the internet. We had a slight issue getting the actual location spot on since the gps was jumping around. A lot of circling the point and frustration later, we got some photos (none of the spot on location, the gps was jumping around too much to manage) and headed back, taking an old railway back and taking the fourth route at a cross roads that we had already hit making the figure of 8. Short walk back and we were done. First hash for Kenny, and plans to hash more often.

Plans
Complete my first geohash and go for the Tron achievement. Aimed to set out at 19:00 since I was dragging a friend along who had to return from Edinburgh.

Expedition
We decided to walk this one since the hashpoint fell about 6 miles from Haddington where we both lived. Despite the horrid weather taking a 15 minute drive felt like it would be cheating over actually taking the trek. We started off at 19:30 from the middle of Haddington, hoping to complete the 12 mile round route in about 4 hours. The weather was consistently below freezing (normally -1C when we checked) and we had massive visibility issues due to fog. Most of the night it was down to between 5 and 10 meters visibility. We managed to get to the hash point at about 22:15 after having gotten slightly lost in the adjacent field. The fog had lifted slightly and we got great views of the stars but the actual hash point was in a fallow field and uninteresting. Photos were taken and the temperature was measured at -1.3C. We left from the opposite end of the field and started doing the return loop. A missed turn meant we had to take a slightly longer road (0.3 miles) but we managed to not cross our own path. The visibility was awful on the way back rarely getting beyond 5 meters which delayed us significantly. The total trip took 6 hours rather than the planned 4 but it was completed despite icey hair, thick fog and the odd patch of ice.
