  • tuneage: Jeremy Messersmith - A Girl, a Boy, a Graveyard Through Tumblr, I discover new musicians all the time but very few of them I immediately take a liking to. Someone I follow posted a Youtube video of Jeremy Messersmith a few days ago and his 2010 album, The Reluctant Graveyard, is now in heavy rotation in my iTunes. Some critics have made the argument that Messersmith’s three first albums are a sort of trilogy; which is particularly apt considering he is a huge Star Wars fan. More folksy and quiet than the rest of the album, A Boy, a Girl, a Graveyard is more of a story than a song. With its soft acoustic guitar, violins, echoing vocals with beautiful lyrics. It’s a combination I’m a for which I am a complete sucker.

  • tuneage: Brian Bonz - “Owl Prowls Elm Village” I’m very excited to see that Brian Bonz will be releasing his new album, The Triborough Odyssey, later this month. He has definitely grown and matured on this record and I can wholeheartedly say I love the direction he has gone in. The music reminds me of Andrew Bird but the vocals are uniquely Brian. This could quite possibly be the album that garners the attention this talented musician deserves. One common thread between this song, and of songs past, is the slow build that happens oh so suddenly, leaving you to question whether or not you’re still listening to the same song. Luckily, Brian leaves us with a trace of familiarity at the end, making this song seem like a sweet and fairly distant memory that gets seeded into our heads, making us want to listen to it all over again.

  • Annuals - Flesh and Blood I discovered this band through Matt Rubin, a photographer, blogger, label-owner, and all around cool guy. This song is off of Annuals’ “Sweet Sister” EP, but if you’re new to the band I’d suggest starting off with their LP “Such Fun.” Listen on Rdio Buy on Amazon ($4.95) (via I Hope You Like This)
