Tomorrow I will be posting this on my Krampus blog, but today YOU get to see it first.
It is getting close to that magical time of year, gentlefolk. A special day. A singular, special day where the Earth's axis is tilted just a bit, but by tilting has caused the birth of our lord and savior, Gary Sandy.
Enjoy yourself and be good on yourself. If you know what I'm sayin'! POW!
I posted to my Krampus blog, but I felt compelled to also add it to this blog o' mine. Enjoy? I hope so.
4 Things:
1. I posted a couple Krampus products for sale on my Society6 site.
Please go to my online store and buy a print for the sweet finch in your life:
Tomorrow night I am dressing up as Walter White for a Halloween party. I'm basically wearing business casual with a gasmask. I'm also attending the same party as Golden Age Sandman in plainclothes. I know. Lame.
This is a reminder that I am slowly adding more pieces of my comic-style art for you to hang on your walls or send as a gift to the person you hate. You can get there by pointing your browser pointer-thingy to the following othercolored word: LINK
If you do not buy anything, please feel free to ❤ something that strikes your fancy. It's nice to know that someone is hearting something I made. I would prefer you buy, though. And if you are interested in commissioning me, I am open for that, as well.
Thanks!
I haven't posted lately because I am busy working on a webcomic and a logo gig as well as being a homeowner and playing important video games and watching Breaking Bad and eating/drinking (HAPPY NO COMMA DAY!).
My most recent commission is now in possession of the client who commissioned it. I had a great time creating this one.
I wish they'd design The Enchantress creepy looking instead of a supermodel. Her powers cause people to be lured into her creepy grasp. RIGHT? Someone write an adventure tale called Lust For Death starring Amora and Skurge and I will return to buying single issue comics again (hell, I'll pencil it if you pay me). Unless it's already been produced wherein I will not return to comics.
I was not was cleaning my office when I sketched this hairy version of the beloved behemoth.
Here is a small sample of what I'm working on for my current commission. It's a pulp-style poster in pure Dawlism fashion (I haven't figured out what that means, yet). The colors will likely change, but you get the idea. I was inspired by Polanski's Repulsion and the perfect description from the client: "loves horror movies - mainly foreign horror movies that are more thriller versus the Saw movies which she hates."
Here is another sketch I found within a folder of a job I was working on back in 2003. The job was for a prep school in Manhattan and the project was to design a mascot for the middle school athletic department. I will be posting about that next and showing some of the sketches that lead up to a "cute wolverine".
I have no idea why I drew this. I'm cleaning my office and rearranging the furniture and this is what I found in one of my old illustration folders. I'm totally perplexed.
Here is the second part of my self promotion piece (first part HERE). This time using Marvel Comics characters (Captain Marvel, Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye). I realize that Monica Rambeau is Photon, but she'll always be my favorite Captain Marvel from the '80s. So, deal with it.
I'm continuing my series of cartoon/comics redesigns with one of my favorite childhood Saturday morning cartoons. Hong Kong Phooey falls into the long list of Hanna-Barbera's haphazard heroes (Captain Caveman, Blue Falcon and Dynomutt, Jabberjaw, Magilla Gorilla, etc.). I adored most of these ridiculous characters because they taught me not to take this genre TOO seriously. This caused me to make many characters of my own who had paranormal abilities or talents that were more of an obstacle than an attribute (ex. The Brass Lantern: previously developed with A.G. Devitt about a guy who shines light on crime… with his eyes). Someday you will see some examples on this blog you are reading. Someday.
Here's a sneak peak at the Marvel version of my previous post. I thought I'd throw The Mighty Thor up here since the live-action interpretation of the Marvel Comic's character is premiering in cinemas soon. If you're interested in checking out some God of Thunder, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't check out Walter Simonson's version of this Asgardian hippie. That's some top-notch comics right there.
Yesterday, December 5, was the official March of the Krampus. I'm late, but I'm late because I WANT the Krampus to visit me. So, I'm being bad. So, there.
Since I am unable to make a physical Krampus card this year I am hoping to be able to post more Krampus-related illustrations by your humble blogger (who am I kidding – I'm far from humble). Enjoy and be good.
Or bad, depending on who you would like to visit you this season. BOO!

I will be designing, at least, two more mythical characters from the old world some time in a future post (notably: Gryla from Iceland and Namahage from Japan). For now, I hope you will be happy with these splendid freaks of whimsy*.
There were even more of these characters, but some were so similar in location and description that I didn't bother to design. I also didn't have enough information to feel comfortable in depicting them accurately. If there are more characters you would like to see that you know of from YOUR little corner of the world, please feel free to contact me with the information and I'd be happy to add them to the list for next year's pinup.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, followers! Be good.
