Ghost Animal - Single Man - Summertime In Heaven (2010)
If you’re not listening to Ghost Animal, you should be.
Ghost Animal have this lo-fi, shoe gazey, noisy brilliance that comes off effortlessly and hits you clearly - like a ton of bricks.
There’s something about them… It’s hard to describe but they’re just raw and simple (in a fantastic way) and straightforward and emotive and it’s all, seemingly, so effortless. I’m digging them more and more with each listen.
Can’t wait to hear/see them live tonight. I highly recommend you check them out.

Ghost Animal post from last week. Really excited for what they have in store via Death Party Records.
Dum Dum Girls - Caught In One - Only In Dreams (2011)
Dum Dum Girls & Ghost Animal all morning & into the afternoon. All in preparation for catching them live this evening.
Caught Dum Dum Girls last October at The Casbah in San Diego - absolutely brilliant live! This go around, different city and different venue, the Doug Fir Lounge in Portland, Oregon.
Can. Not. Wait!

“…You can tell me time will heal
But you don’t know the way I feel
I never had imagined death
Beyond the vague and cold last breath
But now I see his many forms
The way he builds up like a storm
And all the pain and all the sighs
The world I’m in my mother’s eyes.
Whoa-oh
In her eyes
Whoa-oh…”
Kasabian - Video Games (Lana Del Rey cover) - 2011
A fantastic rendition of a beautiful song by Lana Del Rey covered by Kasabian (a favorite band). Just gorgeous.

Monster Movie - Down Down Down - Everyone Is A Ghost (2010)
Decompressing with some Monster Movie this afternoon.
Quite simply an amazing song from a favorite album and band — anchored by the duo of Christian Savill and Sean Hewson.
So underrated…

Enough said.
Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts.
Josh Pyke (Elena Stone) - Endless Summer (The Jezabels cover) - 2012
I absolutely love this cover of The Jezabels “Endless Summer”. Thank you to my lovely friend Jo for sharing this beautiful rendition, of a wonderful tune, with me.
“Josh Pyke is joined by a special guest (Elana Stone of The Rescue Ships) to perform this cover of The Jezebels ‘Endless Summer’ on Triple J’s Like A Version with Tom and Alex.”
Ghost Animal - Vanity Affair - Summertime In Heaven (2010)
I was getting ready for my day, tunes on random, when Ghost Animal stopped me in my tracks. Wonderfully noisy, shoe gazey, lo fi brilliance that made for a fantastic way to start this day.
I proceeded to listen to Summertime In Heaven in its entirety - an impressive album that had slipped my mind… Check out Lastfm for free downloads and to purchase.
Ghost Animal is Michael Avishay and Marisa Rowland (w/ Cole Browning live)
From what I understand, Ghost Animal is on the verge of producing and releasing some new records, for various artists, through the Death Party Records label in the coming weeks and months. A label they started in 2011. I for one can’t wait to hear what they have in store.

It is cruel, you know, that music should be so beautiful. It has the beauty of loneliness of pain: of strength and freedom. The beauty of disappointment and never-satisfied love. The cruel beauty of nature and everlasting beauty of monotony.
Silversun Pickups - Simmer - Neck Of The Woods (2012)
Moments of subtlety, moments of guitar-riffing mastery, moments of Christopher’s drumming insanity, moments of Nikki’s bass-thumping virtuosity, moments of Joe Lester’s multi-instrumental wizardry, moments of lyrical profundity, moments of crescendo and instrument intensity, moments of Brian Aubert’s pristine shriek and vocal authority, moments of undulating beats, moments of ear-popping feats, all adding up to a classic Silversun Pickups head-bobbing treat.

I love this album. Recommend it highly. Purchase the album here.
It’s often just enough to be with someone. I don’t need to touch them. Not even talk. A feeling passes between you both. You’re not alone.

Cloud Nothings - Should Have - Cloud Nothings (2011)
I’ve been listening to Cloud Nothings pretty much all day. It’s just that kind of day…
“Well I thought it would be you
Never told myself the truth
That I should hold your hand
That I should have asked you when
You were sitting in your room
Talking just us two
And I looked to where you’d been
I turned away again
Again…”

Our experience is altogether momentary. From one point of view, each moment is so elusive and so brief that we cannot even think about it before it has gone. From another point of view, this moment is always here, since we know no other moment than the present moment. It is always dying, always becoming past more rapidly than imagination can conceive. Yet at the same time it is always being born, always new, emerging just as rapidly from that complete unknown we call the future. Thinking about it almost makes you breathless.
