Future Islands’ next album, “On the Water,” hits next week, and with a winning formula of dramatic synths, deep bass and the totally-in-your-face vocals of Samuel Herring (who comes off like Jack Black meets Meatloaf, in a good way), they have a compelling formula already in the mix. Their last album, “In Evening Air,” amped up the dynamics, setting the stage for “Balance,” which most certainly has a danceable beat, but is far more cerebral than your normal indie dance night fare. Diamond Rings fans, give these guys a shot.
