2011-2012: Achievements and Goals

Just a recap on what I missed posting about at the end of 2011, and what my general plans are for 2012.

2011

  • 2N turned two years old in December, and also hit its 20,000 follower!

2012

  • 2N will continue on, but I will also attempt to bring more of my focus to my other blog Force Close. With Google Reader losing a lot of its social features in 2011, I will instead use FC as my outlet to post and share various tech thoughts and links.
  • I will show Videolizer. It’s an audio/video heavy program so it’s a little tricky to show of via video, but I’ll figure out the best way to do it. I’ll also get out a beta version for people to give some feedback on, and hopefully release it too!

Another project for my Sustainability, Eco-Art, Hacktivism class, this work is an analysis of all of the items that I own in my apartment. All items are categorized into four categories regarding why I own them:

  1. Fun/My Entertainment (Xbox, TV, etc.)
  2. Work/School (Desk, Pens, etc.)
  3. Needs (Toothbrush, Food, etc.)
  4. Wants (Posters, Soda, etc.)

I then broke those down into which room they are found in. While some results were obvious, such as the bathroom being mostly “Needs” and no “Fun” items, I was surprised to find “Work” overtaking “Fun” in my very own room.

BloNo Recycling Map

A project for my Sustainability, Eco-Art, Hacktivism class, this map finds your location and shares the closest locations for recycling in Bloomington Normal. However, it goes beyond that by allowing users to submit new places which are added to the map automatically. The project is not completed, however this is functioning prototype.

Works great on mobile phones, tablets, and computers!

Convinced teacher to let class go see ISU guest speaker LeVar Burton.

Just finished Star Trek:TNG on Netflix last week. Pumped.

A nice little surprise to wake up to this morning, 2N made the list!

Congrats to my friend Mike’s jkbx for also being featured!

Dave either made a typo or IS Richie Rich. I know which I’m hoping for.

Talk about first world problems, the McDonald’s in his own house. Can’t believe he suffered through only drive-thru past 10.

A good blog to follow, whether you attend ISU or not. http://dailyvidette.tumblr.com

davidschiller:

This is the tumblr I run/post to/am in charge of for the Daily Vidette. Check it out, I think it’s pretty good.

Apparently I’m living in the future over here. U MAD BRO?

This is the project I’ve been working on since the start of the year. I’m not quite ready to show it off entirely yet, but soon. This post will serve as motivation to get a demo ready.

My peak hours of productivity are 2:00-6:00 AM. I just got so much done it’s ridiculous!

Launched a new homepage for Illegal Art last week, check it out! It now has the Tumblr built in! And the music players for recent releases are all HTML5 :D

And new Junk Culture came out today, so give that a listen while you are there!

My face when I realized the new Mac OS has a bunch more Photo Booth effects.

Also, GPOYW.

This is so legit, I really dig the tune, and it makes me want to build something using Max too.

davidschiller:

Wills and I made this today

I laughed. Hate that sculpture.

davidschiller:

I’M IN.

HUGE thank you to those who sent me invites. For whatever reason, Cody’s was the one that worked.

I got’s teh hookups. Gonna have to start selling my very fertile invites.

My lack of posting

A friend pointed out to me how little I’ve been posting lately and I just wanted to let you all know I’m not dead.

I’ve been coding/working on a project for the last 6 months, and every week I think I’ll finally show it off the following week but never do. If you don’t see it by the end of the month, get on me about that. Sadly, one of the biggest issues is that I haven’t finalized a name for it yet, and so I don’t want to announce it without that.

I’d love to eventually give out demos to some of you guys for testing, but I need to deal with DRM and some other stuff before that. (And if you happen to know much about DRM for Mac and Windows, please contact me!)

I haven’t ditched Tumblr, I’m still on every day a lurkin’. Sorry for the disappearance, I’ll try to get back into it. Going on lil vacation soon, I’ll be sure to share some pics.

2n:

More 2Ns! I’ve made a mix on 8tracks comprised of more great music to check out! I always try to limit myself to one song per artist, and sometimes those artists make it really difficult for me by having lots of great music. Here are some bonus songs that you shouldn’t miss out on just because I picked a different track! Click here for the mix!

Give it a listen. Gonna start making more mixtapes.

Feel like I have to blog about this just because of my previous posts

(That post from 2008 was me already waiting 8 years. Oh I was so young and naive then.)

Panorama made for Photoshop II class. Click to see full size, it’s BIG.
