  • If only people's memories were as good and unpartisan as transcripts. It was bad idea under Bush and it continues as a bad idea under Obama. If the government wishes to change the law it should do it. If the government gets to violate the law it will run over us. If we are to have a republic we must force government to obey the rules of our society and we must debate those rules and select an appropriate course of action. To violate the rules when it suits us isn't good for anyone.

Principal Release Engineer at Attivio
Computer Software | Greater Boston Area, US

Summary

I enjoy a fast paced work environment with too many projects and a good deal of stress where I can create modular, sustainable reliable systems to increase effectiveness of individual contributors and contribute to core organizational memory.

Please do not call my work number. The work phone is like the bat phone (for emergencies only) because it breaks into the various urgent tasks on which I'm working. Email allows me to respond to you more thoughtfully. Please favor InMail or email to citizenkahn@gmail.com over the phone.

Experience

  • Apr 2012 - Present
    Principal Release Engineer / Attivio
I'll continue to work at the fulcrum between development, QA and program management. I'll maintain, improve and create new systems to help people do their jobs more effectively by providing easily digestible information to the right people at the right time. Automation will play a key role allowing us all to invest more time on innovation. It should be an exciting challenge.
  • Jun 2011 - Present
Release Engineering Manager / Autonomy an HP Company
Continue to work the the same talented team for a new company. I expect new collaborators and challenges as we integrate approaches. Stream lining build/release processes, reducing maintenance costs and increasing time for innovation continue to be my goals. Better builds, infrastructure management and sharing of components across teams are key parts of the puzzle. In addition, I hope to continue to improve understanding and visualization of release processes.
  • Aug 2010 - Present
Release Engineering Manager / Iron Mountain Digital
Working with a talented team of people to create, maintain and evolve development collaboration environments focusing on builds, source control, issue tracking and how these come together to improve team effectiveness. The goal is to see what improvements can be made to get the right people the right information at the right time.
  • Jul 2008 - Present
Staff Release Engineer / Iron Mountain
Looking at what people need to do their jobs better with a focus on the build system, source control, issue tracking and how these come together to improve team effectiveness. The goal is to see what improvements can be made to get the right people the right information at the right time. Source Control: Svn Build Systems: ant, maven, hudson, sonar Primary Language: java
  • May 2004 - Present
Sr. Software Engineer / The Bola Group
Via the LAMP stack I have built and enhanced ecommerce sites for small business. http://www.bolagrp.com/
  • Nov 2006 - Present
    Release Engineer / DataSynapse
My goals are to strive for simplicity, make it easier for people to do their jobs, and improve the organization's ability to detect problems early in the process. Datasynapse has a fairly complex build environment with builds requiring artifacts be constructed on many platforms and then assembled into a final product. GridServer, DataSynapse's flagship product, is used to accomplish this feat. The build tasks are farmed out to a grid of machines with the results collected and assembled into the final product. At Datasynapse, I have been automating the build process to provide reliable builds with easily understood metrics that allow developers to drive towards higher quality. I have also been working to provide systems to enhance understanding of the build and tools involved. (Jira, Confluence, Opengrok)
  • Jun 2004 - Present
Sr. Release Engineer / Iron Mountain
Designed, implemented and maintained systems to run the software production line, improve code health, and increase the efficiency of individual contributors. The majority of systems are built using a common modular framework written in python. In addition, I developed and maintained information systems to improve organization memory.
