I'm a Kansan turned Arkansan currently living in Brooklyn, New York. With a journalism and strategic marketing degree, I began my career on the business side of the media industry. After six years in print and digital advertising, I decided I needed my work to more closely align with my values, so I transitioned to the editorial side and have been a writer, editor, social media marketer and strategic consultant for progressive and environmental causes ever since.
As a writer and front page editor for The Raw Story, I fell in love with curating the best of the then-emerging new media landscape. As a social media marketer for Discovery's Planet Green, I learned valuable skills launching a new television network. As an editor and writer for TreeHugger, I've used my strategic communication skills to help push sustainability mainstream. As TreeHugger's partnership manager, I've dusted off my account service skills to work with like-minded brands on sponsorships and marketing campaigns.
Earlier in life, I produced theater, managed a touring rock band, worked as a photo technician, barista, lifeguard, bartender, customer service rep and even raised funds for my university. And my first official job was bagging groceries! Looking back, I know that all of these experiences played a significant role in teaching me how to talk, listen and develop relationships.
As Social Media Editor, I am focused on using compelling content and journalism to execute on a social media strategy that meets both editorial and business goals. At TreeHugger, we're passionate about pushing sustainability mainstream, so whether I'm assigning or creating content, managing our social media channels, writing headlines, training writers, or working with sponsors and media partners, I'm ultimately focused growing brand awareness and traffic to our sites, while educating and inspiring our community of readers.
I joined the Planet Green team to help launch television's first 24 hour eco-lifestyle network. I managed social media strategy and voice for the network, while also collaborating with marketing and design teams, plus on-air talent, to integrate social media messaging into programs and promotions. I educated our editorial team on ever-changing social media landscape and provided in-depth training on key tools and services. I also engaged with our community of viewers, readers and fans to grow audience, share knowledge and address concerns.
Finding and sharing the best of the web is one of my favorite things to do, so this was a fun position. My duties included reading hundreds of newspapers, magazines, journals and blogs for the most important and interesting stories to share with our readers. After identifying the best stories of the moment, I would rewrite headlines to fit our site layout, curate and rotate the stories throughout the day. I also wrote original blog posts and video summaries.

Environmental debates are often framed with an Us Versus Them dynamic. If we are to achieve our goal of protecting the environment for future generations, we should strive not to let the debate be seen as a fight between environmentalists versus fossil fuel workers, but rather a fight between moral or immoral choices.
This is basically my dream van, you guys. I had a matchbox car like this as a kid and took it on some great adventures. Little did I know that in real life this van just carried stacks of plywood. #soloparking #van #vandura #car #vanlife
