I work in online marketing and social media at 6S Marketing, a company I co-founded 1 million years ago here in Vancouver. I am an exBlackBerry user and I like to take photos and videos and post them in real-time to the web with my new iPhone.

** UPDATE - Feb 14, 2012**
I received an ermail within a few hours of this blog post going live from the company who developed the website and associated ad campaign. They offered a sincere apology which I accepted.
Tourism Vancouver, through their Culture in Vancouver website, have used my likeness in an advertising campaign without my permission. Actually, not only did they use my likeness, they also used my photo without crediting the photographer... which was also me, as I took the photo of myself using my iPhone.
In the screenshot below, you can clearly see that they have used my likeness in the campaign to "Win Free Canucks Tickets!"
The photo was taken during last year's Canucks playoffs on May 7, 2011 by myself using my iPhone and this website which also uploads it to Flickr automatically. See the original photo below, titled "Crazy Canucks fan! Wait, that's me"
I don't mind people using my photos as long as they adhere to the creative commons license of my account and I certainly won't give permission to use my likeness in ads, unless I get paid or receive credit. This is the attribution that I have on my ads, that Tourism Vancouver did not follow:
Attribution — You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
I am surprised that they used my photo without contacting me as I am fairly well known in social media and I am a Canucks season ticket holder and passionate fan. During last year's run by the Canucks to the Stanley Cup I had my face painted for every game that I went to. However, I did it to show my support as a fan, not to end up in Tourism Vancouver's ad campaign without credit or compensation.

It's not very often that I create art but I wanted to share my experience with these New York subway signs that we purchased and framed for our living room. My wife Kyla is a Restoration Hardware fanatic and found some reproduction subway signs on their website. Considering the cost was $850, I decided to research originals to compare and found the website SubwaySigns.com in Columbus, Georgia. After much research, phone calls and emails, I negotiated a price for 6 signs that I had shipped to my post office box in Blaine, WA. I then had to drive from vancouver to Blaine and pickup the signs and then pay duty on them when I imported them to Canada. Next, I orderded frames from Opus Framing and learned how to frame which was a very cool experience that I highly recommend. The frames cost over $300 each and I had to frame them myself (with some help from the guys at Opus). They are 5 feet tall and almost 2 feet wide. Plexiglass had to be used instead of real glass due to their size. I am really happy with the way they turned out and now we have some very original and unique art!
My lunch date whipped out this killer 80s style cassette tape inspired iPhone case that I have my heart set on. I added the "makeout mix 6" using photoshop to complete the look. You can buy it for $12 on Amazon here.
One year ago today, Kyla and I got married in St. Lucia. These are the photos. The cannon photo is usally the most popoular one and was taken completely by accident.

It's official, our team raised $20,000 for Movember and prostate cancer research and awareness this year. The team, named The Proctologists, is made up of friends, work colleagues and my father, Peter Breikss, (pictured above) who was diagnosed with prostate cancer two weeks ago.
It is amazing that we were able to raise so much money in a short period of time and I am proud of everybody who participated and all of the people that supported us. Our fundraiser last week raised more than $6,000 in one day, and our donors and supporters contributed from far and wide. Thank you very much.
Our ranked #80 in Canada in total money raised with only 30 participants. 250,000 Canadians participated in Movember this year and raised more than $37 million for prostate cancer research. This represents more than one third of the $100 million raised globally for Movember this year. The amount of money raised was equivalent to a dollar raised from every person living in Canada!
It means a lot to me, and my father, to have such a strong community and support behind us.

My Dad had been into the doctor in October for some tests and then later a biopsy of his prostate. Yesterday the results came back and indeed he has prostate cancer. We were very optimistic that the test results were going to be negative so it came as a blow to our family and all of us that are close to him. The news came just 9 days before his 70th birthday, and this has to the shittiest birthday present ever. That being said, he is both strong and optimistic and we knew that there was a chance that he could have cancer when he went in for the tests last month.

My Dad decided to participate in Movember with me this year on our team called "The Proctologists". I have participated in Movember before with a couple of doctors, hence the name, but this is my Dad's first time. This year it's not just about growing a funny moustache and raising awareness, this time it's personal.
So far, our team has raised $7,000 through online donations and we are hosting a "Wine and Beer Tasting" next week on November 25th at 'Firefly Fine Wines and Ales' near Cambie and Broadway in Vancouver. You can buy tickets below and/or RSVP on Facebook.
If you are not available to attend the wine and beer tasting, please consider making a donation online at http://mobro.co/chrisbreikss/
My Dad and I appreciate all of your support and want people to know that it's important to have an annual health check up, especially if you are 40+. To keep informed of progress, please follow @chrisbreikss on Twitter or check back here.

Last week I gave a presentation at Social Media Week in Vancouver titled "The New Social Media Impact on SEM" which detailed how social networks including Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook are affecting your websites search engine rankings.
