the day is young, plenty of time to go cure cancer and still hit the bars for happy hour. someone please get on this.

It’s been a while since I listened to this album from start to end, but I am doing it now because I am old, and high.

I can’t remember the first time I heard this album, or what made me buy it. I can almost guarantee it was because I wanted to hambone a  girl. It was highschool for me, summer 1993. It’s fucking depressing that I can honestly consider that “a long time ago.” What followed was me absolutely playing the proverbial “shit” out of this CD for probably 2-3 years afterwards, and getting the band I was in the time to play a genuine Smashing Pumpkins medley at a Halloween party in 1994 at the Rotterdam, New York Boy’s Club. Hells yeah I did!

I really need to go back and try to watch the crappy handycam8 footage that I still have of it. Our band - “Random Order” decided that it would be a  good idea to play a 20-30 minute medley at a party. Yeah. I guess it’s my Rolling Stones. I’m trying to remember exactly what was in that medly, but I do remember personally performing, and I use that term lightly, portions of the greats.  ”Hummer,” “Mayonaise,” and who can forget the absolutely noisy goodness that is “Silverfuck.”

I had the absolute luck to see The Smashing Pumpkins perform live at the SUNY Albany RAAC Center at some point in 1994. I remember my mom drove us. It was me, Morhous, and this guy that went to Mohanasen who played bass and thought that Les Claypool was Jesus himself*. The first thing that was awesome was that this show was at the RACC which was generally considered a basketball court at the time. The stage was setup and all I can remember is that everyone was sitting in their spots in the wide-open pit. There was a giant moviescreen behind the stage playing clips from weird Shaw-bros.-master-of-the-flying-guilotine-eque kung fu flicks. I was engaged. The concert was pretty safely to say, one of the best I’d ever, and probably ever will see. God I’m old.

Another thing I remember about this album, and further proof that I did infact play the shit out of it was, I remember that the CD case I had on this: kept, fucking, breaking. At one point it the plastic on the top resembled something like a samurai sword styled plastic bezel. I also remember the fact that the cover insert gave way and eventually became overcome with the various spillage in my 1982 Volvo DL, aka the Bluesmobile. God I am nostalgic tonight.

God silverfuck gets my dick hard.

If there’s one thing I truly heart lately, it’s Boxee. Boxee is media software that organizes your personal media and also streams from thousands of sources available on the Interwebs. They also just released a piece of hardware called “Boxee Box” which aims to compete with things like Popcorn Hour, Google TV, Cable Television….

Recently I’ve also been irritated at the lack of professional hockey coverage on American TV. As a huge New York Rangers fan, I wanted to at least see what else was going on in the NHL. The NHL does offer a “Game Center” Boxee application, but it requires that you are a paying member to access ANY content.

So I’ve created a simple RSS based Boxee Application called “Hockey Highlights” which features highlights from NHL games.

Boxee has great instructions on how to add a new repository to your setup. The app is listed on Fuzzthed’s great all-in-one repo. Puckheads, rejoice!

I’ve recently got some time to make an update for DropShorty. There was an issue discovered by @Kenty, in which a custom folder location was not properly working. This has apparently been fixed, please report any issues in the comments section of the page.

Also, a few people have been requesting other URL shortening services – which is great. I’ve added support for Goo.gl and kl.am. If there are others you’d like to see, please feel free to contact me.

Announcing DropShorty, a small Mac OSX droplet that provides a simple drag and drop interface to the great DropBox file-sharing service and short URL services like Bit.ly and TinyURL etc.

DropShorty was DropBitly

I decided DropBitly would benefit from additonal services other than Bit.ly.

The problem:

Currently DropBox’s public folder URLs are long. Why is this bad? Say you want to share a file via a social network like Twitter, or Facebook? DropShorty will copy a file to your DropBox folder and then get a short URL from a service of your choosing.

Don’t see your favorite service?

Just let me know and I can add it to the program! Feel free to leave a comment or e-mail me.

Announcing my first piece of Cocoa software: DropBitly. It’s a simple app that copies a file to your Dropbox public folder and then shortens the public URL with Bit.ly.

If anyone is interested, I was thinking about expanding it to use other URL shortening services like tinyURL.

Right now it’s Mac-only (10.5+), but if there’s interest I really need to start learning some .NET (Windows).
