If there’s one thing I truly heart lately, it’s Boxee. Boxee is media software that organizes your personal media and also streams from thousands of sources available on the Interwebs. They also just released a piece of hardware called “Boxee Box” which aims to compete with things like Popcorn Hour, Google TV, Cable Television….

Recently I’ve also been irritated at the lack of professional hockey coverage on American TV. As a huge New York Rangers fan, I wanted to at least see what else was going on in the NHL. The NHL does offer a “Game Center” Boxee application, but it requires that you are a paying member to access ANY content.

So I’ve created a simple RSS based Boxee Application called “Hockey Highlights” which features highlights from NHL games.

Boxee has great instructions on how to add a new repository to your setup. The app is listed on Fuzzthed’s great all-in-one repo. Puckheads, rejoice!

I’ve recently got some time to make an update for DropShorty. There was an issue discovered by @Kenty, in which a custom folder location was not properly working. This has apparently been fixed, please report any issues in the comments section of the page.

Also, a few people have been requesting other URL shortening services – which is great. I’ve added support for Goo.gl and kl.am. If there are others you’d like to see, please feel free to contact me.

Announcing DropShorty, a small Mac OSX droplet that provides a simple drag and drop interface to the great DropBox file-sharing service and short URL services like Bit.ly and TinyURL etc.

DropShorty was DropBitly

I decided DropBitly would benefit from additonal services other than Bit.ly.

The problem:

Currently DropBox’s public folder URLs are long. Why is this bad? Say you want to share a file via a social network like Twitter, or Facebook? DropShorty will copy a file to your DropBox folder and then get a short URL from a service of your choosing.

Don’t see your favorite service?

Just let me know and I can add it to the program! Feel free to leave a comment or e-mail me.

Announcing my first piece of Cocoa software: DropBitly. It’s a simple app that copies a file to your Dropbox public folder and then shortens the public URL with Bit.ly.

If anyone is interested, I was thinking about expanding it to use other URL shortening services like tinyURL.

Right now it’s Mac-only (10.5+), but if there’s interest I really need to start learning some .NET (Windows).
