What We Did This Week
Report from Lion’s Arch
Lee B. Vents About Queen’s Jubilee
“What we’re supposed to understand is that the Crown Plaza has been planted in the former Canthan District of Divinity’s Reach as testament to the “Everlasting Light of Humanity”. What we’re ignoring is the fact that they just basically cut out a major swath of “humanity” by essentially denying us any sight of Cantha beyond Rice Wine and Rice Balls.” The construction of the arena is basically an erasure of Cantha from the minds of players as the Great Collapse was also the “death” of Cantha during production – someone in the comments section of the article suggested that it’s silly to be sore over something that happened pre-release but the fact of the matter is that’s what the area was meant to be and that in and of itself makes it worth considering.
“Furthermore, let’s ask the question of where is the money coming from to pay for this in the hypothetical game world sense. I know it’s a silly question in the grand scheme of things but aren’t we at WAR?!” The concept of how the monarchy is covering the expense of these grandiose celebration has come up again and again by players/bloggers who don’t know how this elaborate structure will be anything but spit-shine on a sore subject for many. Lore-wise it makes little to no sense that they would spend so much money on something to be used once when they’re at war on several fronts (centaurs, charr (negotiating), dragons).
watchknights are a dead ringer for chronomancers and shape-shifting “robots” are basically the best assassins ever… “Does anyone else find this thought hilarious and wonder if we’ll see any such political espionage?”
“Every aspect of it is encouraging you to take part of slaughtering hundreds of these mobs which will undeniably flood the economy with all sorts of loot and further drive the worth of gold down.” The Arena is an economy adjustment. While fun, it loses it’s luster quickly once you get over the love of grinding through to get loot/xp/gold/karma. The fact is, prices have dropped dramatically and like when achievement boxes were released people have found themselves with a huge influx of gold that they previously didn’t have. Players who were playing for fun on the PvE side might have had 1-2g on average since launch now are swimming into the game with 8-10g after chests and the pavilion. Since this influx of money has opened up a lot of players are finally pursuing the items/gear they want. The drops have also lead to huge price decreases, supply increases in Tier 6 materials and rares. This has also lead to a slight devaluation in gold and how we perceive our purchases.
Minigames – Lee states that he/she will play them until he gets all the achievements for them but that’s it. Personally I don’t see the point of them. I don’t particularly enjoy them or go out of my way to do them. I usually find them incredibly frustrating or just grind based. “You guys did take a step in the right direction with playing the game X amount of times got you a loot bag, but it still just doesn’t feel like it’s worth the time outside of achievement points.” I’d rather play smarter and get my daily done in one zone than travel around like crazy and waste money on Waypointing. The majority of them are PvP based and that’s probably why I don’t particularly enjoy them.
Champion Loot – “It’s bad that it’s a whole set of dice we have to roll again on each open of a bag.“ Couldn’t agree more, but the RNG is how they keep people playing in the first place. If everything was a guaranteed drop what’s the point in playing repeatedly or farming?
Dungeon – “However this is a rant article and my main issue is these groups selling slots to finish dungeons.” I had no idea this was even happening. Ridiculous.
US Gaming Community’s poor behavior – “We’re getting new content no matter how the cookie crumbles, guys. Be happy with that. We’re all human beings playing fantasy beings that are effecting a fantasy universe. Keep that in check, guys. Please.”
The logical followup to the laundry list of complaints here questions whether or not people are truly enjoying the new release cadence and I think this has added a lot of polarization to the community. Those who are after the action and less “concerned” with the advancement of the story are thriving while those who want more and deeper lore seem to be falling to the wayside.
We were very positive with regards to this patch because it feels like a severe departure and sometimes it’s really fun to just kill and zerg and dominate. Thankfully not all patches have followed this suit and that’s why it has been so fun despite the fact that it’s little more than a temporary grindfest.

“Tick tock goes the clock
It’s almost time for time to stop
Something you all must understand
Your world is built on fog and sand
You’re out of time, your jig is done
It’s time for Scarlet to have her fun
She has some hard lessons to teach
To the people of Divinity’s Reach
Do Divinity’s Reach humans really need to suffer?
Scarlet is then the bad guy that Mai Trin said she was, the question is will her real intention be obvious?
There’s some speculation that Scarlet is someone from GW1. I think this has been discounted from the model that they used for the Mysterious Stranger in the Opening Ceremony.
So mark the date in permanent ink
The hour is later than you think
On the twentieth day she’ll start her games
And warm her hands over Kryta’s flames!”

“Maris Thorn again so I’m playing the new living world stuff and zomg is there loot coming out of my ears. What do you guys think is this arena nets way of saying thank you for the last year or a shameless plot by evon gnashblade to get us to buy more bag slots? Thanks again for streamlining my play time.

Dave Aes Sedai FKA Frodo Teebaggins – “Hi ,
first I want to say great work with the podcast.( I done a podcast in the past, and unless you done one you don’t know how much work they are.) I have a question then two after thoughts.
First , my wife ( who doesn’t play GW 2) gives me a lot of grief for the names of my characters . Like to know your thoughts and be honest. I have a human male thief ( level 54 ) called Dave the Knife. A human female Ele ( level 45) called Chloe Firestarter. Human male Necro ( level 80) called Simhirage ( from The Wheel of Time). A human male guardian ( level 80 ) called Cabel the Conquer( after my grandson). A male Norn warrior ( level 80 ) called Lews T Kinslayer ( Wheel of Time). A male Sylvari ranger ( level 80) called Osmosis Dave ( that joke seems to be lost on everyone). And finally my main an Asuran male mesmer ( level 80) call Dave Aes Sedai ( WoT) ( his name was Frodo Teebaggins but A-net said I had to change it).
Now for my two after thoughts. If you have A-Net’s ear, could you ask if we could just rearrange our first 5 skills in the order we want. Second , if am out in the world how is it possible that I can I sell something to the Black Lion Trading Company, and it is removed from my inventory (by the mail?). But if I buy something I have to go all the way to town to get it, why can’t they mail it to me. I would pay an extra fee for this.
The Asuran formally know as Frodo Teebaggins from the Maraurders of Serenity ( MoS) Guild”
Timothy – “On your latest episode Chris was talking about the financial loss from a level 20 guardian. While the bags are not as nice(different rarity) are account bound and the produced item level is based on the opening toon. I have been keeping/banking the ones gained on my lowby necro and opening them on lvl 80 toons for more money.
Just thought you should know. Keep up the excellent work.”
