Casey Mahoney is a student at the Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) in California, pursuing an M.A. in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies with foci in nuclear nonproliferation, US-Russia relations, and international security.
Currently, Casey is working on multiple research projects on security issues through the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) and the Islam, Islamism, and Politics in Eurasia Report (IIPER, published online through CSIS).
He graduated in May 2011 from Middlebury College, Vt., summa cum laude, with a B.A. in Russian and with a minor in Political Science. He wrote an honors thesis on authoritarianism in Russian local government.
He spent a year studying abroad at Irkutsk State University in Russia and sang in Stuck In the Middle a cappella in college.
