It’s always wonderful when fashion and good causes unite, what better way to raise funds then to have a girly night out? Last week I had the pleasure of attending the St Joe’s Women’s Centre’s Inspire & Ignite fashion show, an annual event whose proceeds provide amazing services to women in need in the Ottawa community.
Just a quick snap of the show, featuring Sukhoo Sukhoo looks.
It’s great to get recommendation from friends for places to go when you’re in a less known city. Lucky for me when venturing to Toronto I have great access to an encyclopedia of knowledge from well fed friends. Before this trip the last time I was in Toronto (if that makes sense) we couldn’t get in to L’Ouvrier. Thankfully it was suggested by another pal, and I had a chance to go. So hipster-y and delicious. The decor was feminine with the all white furniture and splashes of bright red here and there. Also great for people watching.
According to Toronto Life, the space was “an illegal after hours club with dark walls and small, presumably smoke-filled rooms” and when they moved it they striped it down and broke down the walls to make it avery open space. What I love also, was there were long tables where you could fit 15-20 people easily for those nights were people keep inviting others, you’ll never grow out your reservation.
It’s no wonder I loved this place, Angus Bennett of Ottawa’s The Manx is behind the deliciousness.
What I ate:
-steak tartare, crostini, capers, gherkins, dijon, worcestershire sauce, tabasco, grana padano
-coconut poached atlantic salmon, lemongrass, chili, coriander, snow peas, rice cake
I wish I had pics, but the lighting in this place was WAY to sexy for good looking snaps.
Ever wonder how a Chanel jacket is made? Check out this “Little Black Jacket” - it’s worth the wait to afford. True craftsmanship.
This Sunday in the heart of Toronto’s hipster land I had a magical dinning experience hosted by Les Esclaves de La Cuisine; a Toronto based food industry collective who has been raising awareness & money for a good causes related to their passion; food. Somewhere off Queen West, in probably one the coolest spaces known to man, I was fed by Charlotte Langley of Cafe Belong and Guy Rawlings of Lucien in a charity dinner in benefit of FoodShare. FoodShare is Canada’s largest community food security organization, who reach over 145,000 children and adults a month through subsidized fresh produce distribution, student nutrition programs, community gardening and cooking, classroom curriculum support amongst many other things. Pretty darn awesome people.
Les Esclaves de la Cusine “robb(ed) grocery stores, call(ed) in favours and scour(ed) dumpsters” tweeted Daniel Hadida one of the event’s organizers -all in favour in showing fellow bon vivants that deliciousness can be made from the left overs of others. The event underscored that over one third of available food in the world goes to waste, and what better way to bring light to this then by pushing culinary creativity and eating something you might have otherwise recognized as ‘trash’.

Thanks to all involved for a lovely time and tasty meal. I wonder how much was raised?
