What’s the first thing comes across your mind when you think of “Miami”? Warm weather, beautiful beaches, or dangerous yet exciting night life, also known as high crime city?
Metro Zu, this native Miami crew embody whole essence above and making loud noise on the internet for those who have wide ears. This Miami natives’ colorful yet rudy, absolutely distinct melody which described as “Balcony Rap” meets the style of latest trend defined by rough and uncomplicated bass called “Laptop Music”. Lofty305, Ruben Slikk, Mr.B the Poshstronaut and Freebase, members of Metro Zu have dropped numerous free pieces each, one after another and instatnly getting their vogue on.

マイアミと聞いて何を想像する？　温暖な気候、美しいビーチ、はたまた犯罪都市としても知られるスリリングな夜の姿…。そのすべてを体現している（と思われる）のが、昨年あたりからネット上の早耳たちにバズらせたユニット・Metro Zuだ。 昨今のラップトップ・ミュージックならではのラフでチープなボトムに、マイアミの風土の成せる業なのか、カラフルでルーディーな独特のメロディーを乗せた”バルコニー・ラップ”とも称されるスタイルで登場した彼らは、メンバーの Lofty や盟友Lowercaseらそれぞれが多作、また多作。フリーで次々に作品を発表し、瞬く間にファンを増やしている。

Metro Zu have worked with a beatmaker of “seminishukei”, the unidentified crew who’s known as having unusual talent and they both enthrall you with their mysterious charm. They have also linked up with Japanese MCs, D.U.O and Rockasen to release “Japan On My Mind/ Miami On My Mind”, you will realize the quality of this extremely underrated collaboration along with their great foresight! It’s only natural that these 2 talented crew have come together and this is absolutely one of the reason why they’re so loved by us in Japan!

その正体不明な魅力が共通点とも言える異能集団・seminishukei所属のトラックメイカーや、D.U.O、Rockasenといった日本のMCとのコンピレーション「Japan On My Mind / Miami On My Mind」（そのクオリティの高さと先見性、ともにアンダーレーテッド過ぎる！）との必然感すら漂ったコラボレーションもまた、我々日本人にとって愛すべき存在として知られるきっかけになった。

Their prolificity has been boosting more and more lately, teamed up with another shadowy squad RVIDXR KLVN who’s also representing Maimi to add rawness sound marked by RVIDXR and a taste of dubstep on their sound of variety. Mystery gives way to mystery, continuing to spur on interest.

しかしここ最近では拍車がかかる多作ぶり、また同じくマイアミの地をREPする、これまたナゾ多き集団・RVIDXR KLVNとのコラボ、いや融合？も進み、RVIDXR印のローファイ感、はたまたダブステ調のトラックが増えたりと…その全貌はますますわからなくなってきた。

Metro Zu beatjacking Carios & DKXO’s 2011 classic “Local Distance” (beats by our beatmaker KonyagaTanaka) titled “Kingdom Hearts”. From this title you can easily evoke that DIVA and title tune for the game that both sampled in the beats and how natural they flow on this beats develop the feeling that as if it was originally made for them.

そして先ごろ届けられた、我らが今夜が田中ビートにしてCarios & DKXOが生んだ2011年のクラシック”Local Distance”をジャックした”Kingdom Hearts”。ビートでサンプルされたあのディーバ→ゲーム主題歌、という連想から生み出されたであろうラップが乗ったこの曲もまた、まるで彼らのために用意された曲だったかのように乗りこなしている。 

Beatjacking this so called T.R.E.A.M. Classic should be linked by fate, Lofty gave us an interview that we set up to unveil this mysterious crew. Well, this will not explain their mystique completely, but hopefully you can “feel” their one-of-a-kind vibe from this interview along with their music.

TREAM CLASSICとも言えるこの曲をジャックしてくれたのも縁、というわけで、T.R.E.A.M.はMetro Zuのナゾに迫るインタビューを敢行した。応えてくれたのはLofty。これですべてのナゾが解ける…わけはない、彼ららしい答えが届いたが、音同様にフィールしてくれればこれ幸い。

T: Your sounds like more psychedelically than any other Hip Hop. Why would you like to make those sounds?

L: We are intergalactic shamans and modern day merlin voodoo gang.
