I am a 40-year-old bisexual, polyamorous, pagan, artist, photographer, crafter, writer, sometimes disguised as a substitute teacher, trying to figure out how to reconcile my passions with making a living. I live in the country with my partner and our four still-at-home, unschooled kids, and one very spoiled cat.
Recently I took part in International Soul Art® Day with Laura Hollick and I thought I'd share it with you all.
First, there was a worksheet that gave 5 steps to prepare for Soul Art Day:
I've been taking daily photos based on Vivienne's prompts, but haven't been able to share all week until now! So without any further ado, here are my self-portraits for May 5th through 9th.
May 5th
...pick one part of your body as inspiration and tell a story that feels positive to you... Share something you feel proud of or feel positive about.
Yesterday was a busy day here at Faerie Gardens! Jacqueline & I went out lawn mower shopping and then of course spent some time putting it together and playing with it; and then we went out to dinner - an unexpected treat! However it was quite late by the time I got around to thoroughly reading my emails and finding the Be Your Own Muse prompt:
"...let's let the sillies out, let's be playful be it in our expressions, our movements or the props we use to help us with this fun task!"
What is really funny is that I had actually already taken some self-portraits that fit the prompt! You see, I got a great deal at Sally Beauty Supply (I know, not where one finds by lawn mowers, but it was Right. Next. Door!) on a very Lisa Frank-esque fashion set: a bag, scarf, and sunglasses featuring black leopard spots on a rainbow ombré background. I ♥ it so much!
But let's be real.
I can't wear sunglasses. -_- Haven't been able to since I got glasses when I was 10. I finally broke down and got some clip-ons (omg I've become my mom XD ) from the eye place last time I got glasses though, but they are no where near as cool as these:
So many blog post bubbling up in my head, and backlogged in my drafts.... Whee! I feel like my brain is running so fast, my fingers can barely keep up!
Anyway, let's just take a break for a moment. *deepbreath* Ah, yes, that's better...
First, I am doing 2 things this month. The first is related to my business, Faerie Garden Fancies, and the second focuses on me, with emphasis on play & self-care.
First, I will be taking part in Leslie Saeta's "30 Marketing Ideas in 30 Days" Challenge. Day One (form an Artist-Mentoring Group) was a cinch, as I am already a member of a lovely group of artists on facebook, and in fact, had discovered the challenge there! Day Two was to find an old painting, still for sale, and share it! And so here it is!
So let's talk about anxiety & depression.
Depression & anxiety.
Not happy topics.
No fuzzy bunnies involved.
I've been debating making this post for a long time, but thought it was better to hide it. No point in dwelling on the negative, and no one wants to read about it anyway.
But I changed my mind.
There's an estimated 1 in 10 adults with depression in the US, and of those, nearly 1/2 are also diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. That means that there are probably about 12 people who read this blog who are dealing with depression, and 5 or 6 who have anxiety as well.
Well this post is for them.
And for those reading who have a friend or family member dealing with depression or anxiety. (And if you've got 9 of those, one of them probably is...)
And for myself.
-------------------------------------
We all know the symptoms, right? You've all seen the late night commercials or the ads in magazines for the various antidepressants...
Do you suffer from feelings of guilt or worthlessness? Persistent sadness, helplessness, and hopelessness? No.
Do you feel anxious or empty? Unable to enjoy the things you used to?
Blah blah blah... Just take this drug & be magically healed!
This week's prompt: TRAIN
I have been going through the files of images on my computer, and wasn't going to use these, but I *really* want to share them, and count them in my 365+ Rabbits; so I am!
On the 29th & 30th I did a TON of creative & crafty stuff, including baking, making candy, decorating eggs, and even drawing! Well, the drawing was kinda sucky, IMHO but I shall share nonetheless!
Buns.... get it...??? XD Ha ha ha!
Oh yesh random art is random! Here are two pieces I've completed recently...
First, a little door hanger for when I need some quiet & privacy. ^-^
Some rabbits from March! More to come...
03-19-13: Always wear your invisible crown... Has anyone seen mine?
This took far too long to color! But I am so happy with how it came out! ^-^
I know I am still behind on posting art, but I wanted to get *something* up for you all to see... How about my fabu nails for tomorrow? ^o^
Oh my good gracious! I am so excited! I have long bemoaned the fact that I couldn't reply directly to the comments I'd get here, like I could - very easily - on LJ. I looked into it a long while ago, but it wasn't an option.
Well recently I saw a "Reply" link on someone else's blogspot comment, and decided today to figure out HOW! Lo & behold, Google has made it super easy with just a clickity-click to adjust a setting! BAM!
Now I can reply when I get your comments! YAY! \^o^/

Today's prompt: egg.
The Full Worm Moon asks:
I am the Rain, the Bringer of LifeI'll get back to the rest of that corner in a moment...
I bring the moisture and ease all strife
I sooth the Earth -- I quench Her thirst
I nudge the seeds gently awake so they burst
Into full germination so they can sprout
I cleanse the Earth within and without
But that isn't all; I give so much more
I cleanse the spirit from aura to core
I inspire and unblock creativity flow
And bring physical energy to all I know
Mine is true happiness and pure delight
I bring the rainbow back in the Light
Haven't done my French yet today, but I wanted to get these scanned & up for you before I run out of time...^-^
Create each day
3-14-13: Love how this one came out! ^-^
I've already caught you up on my French today... here's another drawing scanned from the past few weeks...
This is also for my Daily Dare to Create One Thing Every Day, for Friday, March 22, 2013...
Illustration Friday's Prompt: Swim.
This dude needs a background...
Hehehehe... Time for a Ketchup Post! XD
This cold is progressing and befuddling my brain quite nicely.
I have caught the illness that swept through the house last week. It seems like everyone got it and has had it forEVER, and now that they're healing up, it's my turn... -_- Bleh. I am behind on my creating, but up-to-date on my French, and catching up on the others...
Crazy weekend, and I feel really discombobulated, disorganized, and disconnected...
Since this is the beginning of the 2nd week, I should recap my weekly dares, and see how we did...
Hoppy Earth Day! A day late, and a dollar short, yes, that's me...
Shrink plastic jewelry from a kit, pre-printed, but I colored & beaded it! ^-^
Blogged:
When I saw today's free project at the Art House Co-op, Encyclopedia of: Neighborhood Pets, the neighbor's rooster immediately jumped to mind. I've never actually *seen* him as their yard is really sheltered by trees, but I've heard him... crowing & crowing & crowing all night long... XD

and this is why I love Whovians.
Earlier tonight:
love this
I love to hike, and I go the gym three days a week. I’m getting my bike fixed up to use it in the huge nearby park. But?
On my very worst days with my knees or ankles, this can take forever.
Walking up the 12 steps to my house can take five minutes.
I support this message so so so so so much.
I am crying violently.
God, RDJ just looks like a little child, when they’re being hugged by their father.

It must be lovely to be you.”Glynis Johns as Miranda

After learning my flight was detained 4 hours,
I heard the announcement:
If anyone in the vicinity of gate 4-A understands any Arabic,
Please come to the gate immediately.Well—one pauses these days. Gate 4-A was my own gate. I went there.
An older woman in full traditional Palestinian dress,
Just like my grandma wore, was crumpled to the floor, wailing loudly.
Help, said the flight service person. Talk to her. What is her
Problem? we told her the flight was going to be four hours late and she
Did this.I put my arm around her and spoke to her haltingly.
Shu dow-a, shu- biduck habibti, stani stani schway, min fadlick,
Sho bit se-wee?The minute she heard any words she knew—however poorly used—
She stopped crying. She thought our flight had been canceled entirely.
She needed to be in El Paso for some major medical treatment the
Following day. I said no, no, we’re fine, you’ll get there, just late,Who is picking you up? Let’s call him and tell him.
We called her son and I spoke with him in English.
I told him I would stay with his mother till we got on the plane and
Would ride next to her—Southwest. She talked to him. Then we called her other sons just for the fun of it.
Then we called my dad and he and she spoke for a while in Arabic and
Found out of course they had ten shared friends. Then I thought just for the heck of it why not call some Palestinian
Poets I know and let them chat with her. This all took up about 2 hours. She was laughing a lot by then. Telling about her life. Answering
Questions. She had pulled a sack of homemade mamool cookies—little powdered
Sugar crumbly mounds stuffed with dates and nuts—out of her bag—
And was offering them to all the women at the gate.To my amazement, not a single woman declined one. It was like a
Sacrament. The traveler from Argentina, the traveler from California,
The lovely woman from Laredo—we were all covered with the same
Powdered sugar. And smiling. There are no better cookies. And then the airline broke out the free beverages from huge coolers—
Non-alcoholic—and the two little girls for our flight, one African
American, one Mexican American—ran around serving us all apple juice
And lemonade and they were covered with powdered sugar too.And I noticed my new best friend—by now we were holding hands—
Had a potted plant poking out of her bag, some medicinal thing,With green furry leaves. Such an old country traveling tradition. Always
Carry a plant. Always stay rooted to somewhere. And I looked around that gate of late and weary ones and thought,
This is the world I want to live in. The shared world. Not a single person in this gate—once the crying of confusion stopped
—has seemed apprehensive about any other person. They took the cookies. I wanted to hug all those other women too.
This can still happen anywhere. Not everything is lost.
I deleted the previous post so that I can set this one up correctly. The quote above was originally posted by queenofadodi, who currently goes by il-tenore-regina

this has always annoyed me
For everyone who ever asks me (or others) how to get better at something. You do it. You do it until you stop sucking and start ruling.
