  • itwillnevergoaway: I can only write this in the most forward way because this music is deeply groundbreaking for me and I don’t want any of my thoughts to get lost in hippie art school adjectives so please excuse any blatant worshipping that goes on. /////////// I feel kind of silly saying anything denoting that I am a proponent of Witch House, as the genre itself came about as a kind of tongue-in-check “F YOU” to the music industry and all things self important. Bands of the genre can have very little to do with each other aside from a general philosophy of doom and gloom (to abbreviate it egregiously). I am a fan of nihilism when it appears in art, and for this reason the genre’s “yeah, so what” approach to our (alleged) degeneration as a global society fascinates me. It’s the kind of music that knows how fucked up the system is and then exploits the system, only to say “You can never have my track in a Target ad” ijĒŞǙŞ ҚĦŖiŞŢ makes music that is so blown out and scuffed up that it feels like he is trying to disrupt the party, to make your head turn and say “turn that shit off”, but it is so delightful that you can’t keep from dancing. This relationship between artist and audience is so complex and mutually “how-ridiculous-can-we-get” that I find the music to be as compelling conceptually as it is sonically. The most thoughtful comparison I can make is the way a classical symphony (or any arrangement, really) sounds as a low-resolution MIDI file. Something as well orchestrated as Mozart is humorously stupid when poorly translated into a digital format. But ijĒŞǙŞ ҚĦŖiŞŢ intentionally generates his work on a level that is strangely low fidelity, but not in a stylistically acceptable way (as in 8bit masters like anamanaguchi or sabrepulse). He takes something that is not old enough to be vintage and makes it into a cacophonous dance jam with a housey breakdown. The connotations of every individual aspect of this song are so conflicting, it makes my head spin, but it is still so effective that it moved me emotionally when i first heard it. http://soundcloud.com/ijesuskhrist http://www.youtube.com/blairshynola http://runawaytoday.livejournal.com/ ijĒŞǙŞ ҚĦŖiŞŢ also works as Ponyboy and with a collaborator as _N_
