Michael Benatar is a young filmmaker who aspires to make a documentary that will restructure the way people think about music and community. This project is an experiment on the power of online connectivity. Traveling from Los Angeles, CA to Manchester, TN - the story is as much about the journey as the hopeful destination. This documentary stands out from others of it’s genre because of it’s intimacy. While the intention of the documentary is to capture the essence of Bonnaroo, the film is also about the struggles and obstacles faced by the aspiring documentary filmmaker.
Beyond Michael’s story - this documentary seeks to incorporate the experiences of many Bonnaroo attendees. By creating an online community through social networking forums we have been able to involve people like you who are interested in helping us break the traditional boundaries of documentary filmmaking. We hope this film will paint a picture of the varied experiences at Bonnaroo, so that people who have not yet been to Bonnaroo or a music festival of it’s nature will be able to catch a glimpse of what really goes on BEHIND THE ROO. * The simplest way to become involved is to buy a “Behind the Roo” Tank for only $12 with our original design created by Caryn Karriker. This is a great way to identify other behind the roo’ers at Bonnaroo, and more importantly, for the film makers to find you! If you purchase tanks in large groups with your friends (around 5 or more) please contact us so we can be sure to find you and capture you and your friends enjoying Bonnaroo!
* Come to our official Behind the Roo Meet-Ups, where we will be hosting events such as water balloon fights, freeze tag, and jam sessions. Check for our meet-up list about week before Bonnaroo at behindtheroo.com. We will also be posting locations and times for meet-ups on our twitter page and website for easy access during the festival.
* Tell 1 friend to follow us on Facebook or Twitter. These are awesome online communities where people can let us know their ideas for Meet-Up activities as well as ways they can help contribute to the documentary in general.
* Film your Roo experience! If you are interested in filming - please contact us via email at behindtheroo@gmail.com for more details. The footage must be HD (which includes flipHD, and iPhone footage), and you will need to sign a wavier.
* Donate your original music for the Behind the Roo soundtrack! Please email us at behindtheroo@gmail.com for more details. We are very excited about incorporating the music of festival goers!

We just wanted to update all of you on Behind the Roo.
Michael is hard at work editing the film, and it is coming together beautifully. We will be releasing a trailer in the early fall, so stay tuned!!! All of your footage and contributions are meshing together so well, and have been essential components in our film. We are so grateful for your continued support and can’t wait to share what we have with you!
