Comedy Bang! Bang! / Bunk - June 8th on IFC
Based on the two half hours IFC has made available online and on demand, Friday nights on the self proclaimed off beat network are going to be unlike anything else on TV. The ads claim these shows will “change the face of comedy,” and while that is mostly hyperbole, the goal is certainly set that high.
Scott Aukerman’s Comedy Bang! Bang! transcends its podcast origins, transforming into something that is constantly laugh out loud funny and distinct in its voice. It’s at once a sketch series and an anti-talk show but to label it as such would be a disservice to all it’s trying to accomplish. The delirious writing is nuanced and connected, if lopsided, with certain bits being more successful than others. Further, fans of the podcast may find it too scripted and miss the improvised feel of the audio version.
IFC has found the perfect companion to CBB with Bunk. Where CBB skewers sketch and talk, Bunk unloads the game show. Its blend of improv and written material is mystifying and wonderful to watch. Where CBB can feel a bit too scripted, Bunk at times feels delightfully of the cuff, but just as delirious as its lineup mate. A lot of it rides on the comedian contestants, of course, but it’s apparent IFC has no lack of funny people.

If this was a drinking game, you’d be dead like 15 minutes into Moonrise Kingdom.
I’m just pumped for the soundtrack.
Because as we all know more villains = better movie.
It must be the bridge in the song. It links Sixth and Union — the intersection Kiedis claims he was walking toward — with the drug dealers at Seventh and Hoover. And, unlike the other bridges, it provides a discreet location for private time with personal demons.

“What I’m saying is older people watch these shows and older people aren’t as used to using the internet to watch their television. Hence, if younger people aren’t watching television programming the traditional way, then the people who DO, i.e. older people, are dictating who wins. “

This is a very thoughtful look at how old people are ruining everything by watching shitty television.
This writer has some of his wires crossed. While DVR and the Internet are hurting the way TV used to make money, older people are not dictating who wins. If that were the case Harry’s Law wouldn’t have been canceled. Away from the Internet (and by extension the east and west coasts) are hordes of Americans, aged 18-49, who watch non-challenging television, live. They’re the ones who make shows like Big Bang Theory and Idol hits. It makes no sense that NBC would program for an older generation, whom the advertisers don’t care about. New and different can still be found on TV, just ask AMC and FX. Unfortunately, programming narrow-casted shows like Community and Awake, that may reach a more affluent audience, isn’t enough to cut it anymore.
Also, Parks and Rec got picked up for a full 22-ep season.
Why would musical theater be the only culture that resists newness? It doesn’t make sense. Bands become successes on tumblr. Where’s the tumblr of musical theater? [The problem is] older people are willing to pay for it, and they’re the same audience that’s not going to want something new. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. I’d rather go see our future than most musicals. The theater is simply not democratized in any way, and other art forms are.

And he managed to win and not show his condition too bad. Impressive.
That’s going to be an awkward day on set. “So, uh, KIllam, why don’t you show everyone that impression you do of me.”
This is great news for fans and proof that Guarascio and Port are devoted to the show. Hopefully it’s a trend.
