I really need to update this...

but not tonight, tonight I sleep.

In the mean time here's something interesting to look at.

August 04, 07:14 AM

I move to London on Monday! Can't wait! My girlfriend is in what I believe they call the nesting stage, she's buying lots of bed sheets and pillows and tea towels and stuff.

To celebrate our move I thought I would blog this nugget of information. Designer Mark Noad has redesigned the London Underground Map. Traditionalists are probably chuckling to themselves thinking how can someone improve on such perfection that is Harry Beck's London Tube Map. But after looking over the redesign it makes a lot of sense. Noad has included geographical accuracy, something Beck's design sacrificed in favour of visual simplicity. Find out more about the map here.

This is a video I did when I was starting out as a creative person. I thought it was lost but earlier today I found the video on a disc tucked away in storage while clearing out my parents' attic. The video is a collection of photos that my Dad and I had done in photobooths while I was growing up.

It's been a while since I updated this blog and so much has happened in the last two months I'm struggling to remember it all. This post will probably be a bit disorganised. Right now I'm looking for a place to live with my partner in London as I've been offered a job as a junior designer in Notting Hill. I can't wait to start but flat hunting in London is not easy, especially when you live no where near London.

First of all, I finished University with a first! On the 2nd June 2011 I finished my three years at University College Falmouth.

My wedge of work for assessment. This is rotting away at the back of a cupboard now.
Two of my brand books freshly printed and bound.

And then there was the end of year show.

My work in the end of year exhibition.
After submitting my work to the D&AD student awards I was lucky enough to have it nominated. So on the 16th June I headed off to London to attend the D&AD awards ceremony with Sam Morris and Pascal Raabe who were also nominees. I'd never been to an awards ceremony before so it was a very new and exciting experience.

At the end of June came the sad moment I had to leave Falmouth for good. Sad times. Here are two lovely arty photos to remember Falmouth by.

The view across Falmouth and the docks.

A very arty shot of my girlfriend and the view from my window.

I am no longer living in Cornwall, instead me and my girlfriend are living out of my parents house in my home town in the Midlands. After moving back home I traveled back to London to attend D&AD new blood, a big exhibition/festival to show off graduates work to professionals in the design industry.

Outside New Blood.
This event has proven to be invaluable in helping me find a job. When it finished I started getting emails from companies asking to meet. For the past three weeks I've been bouncing back and forth between home and London attending interviews. It was a tiring (and expensive) couple of weeks but I have finally been offered a job position. Starting in august I will be a junior designer working in Notting Hill. This brings us to where I am now, trying to make the move to London. If anyone knows of any good studios to let or flat shares don't hesitate to get in touch. All I've been doing lately is flat hunting. And it's boring.

So there's a very quick update of my post uni life. I've still got a long journey ahead of me, but I'm hoping when I'm old and have to wear a nappy (many many years away, or not) I can look back at this blog and remember where it all began. That sounds incredibly corny but I'm 22 now and you start thinking about this sort of stuff.

Anyway, I'm rambling, peace out.

ps. I was just handed this cool photo of my great grandad.

On Thursday I will have finished university. Crazy...

Sneak preview

May 16, 04:38 PM

In two weeks time I finish University for good! My time at UCF will be done. The last three years have gone so quick. I have been fortunate enough to be a D&AD nominee! Which is amazing!!! That means I'll be going to the big flashy awards ceremony next month and I'll be in the D&AD book. Today I sent my Dogs Bollocks entry to Design Bridge, so if I'm lucky maybe I can get two wins in the bag (crosses fingers).

Anyway, lots to do, here's some photos of recent events.

Keeping this one short but sweet.

It's two weeks into the Easter holidays with another two weeks to go until the start of my last term at University!!! Lots of new stuff coming, including new projects and a new website (it's that time again, when I get bored of the one I already have and do it all over again).

Btw as of June I'm available for hire!!!

Today was the deadline for my D&AD student competition brief sponsored by The Partners, and I'm happy to say it was sent off and submitted just in time! Many a sleepless night I have had over that project but despite being a challenging brief I'm glad I did it. Wish me luck.

Been very busy as of late, resulting in much inactivity on this blog I'm afraid. I'm currently over half way through my last year of university which means soon enough I'll be venturing out into the big wide world to find work. Something I'm looking forward to and am slightly intimidated by.

Last week I went for a day trip with my parents to St Ives and while we were roaming I noticed something I had worked on while at Nixon Designs.

This was a logo I created while working with Chris and Darren. I created the roundel mark which Chris and Darren tweaked a bit, they then added the rounded typeface below the logo. It's the first logo I have professionally produced (hopefully the first of many), so to see the logo out in the public eye is very exciting!

I'll be submitting my entry to D&AD on Monday. Wish me luck.

It's coming towards the end of my first term of third year, which has gone incredibly quick. I've been working on lots of projects non of which I will be publishing anywhere yet. But keep an eye on my portfolio in the coming weeks/months. I've been designing the branding and packaging of a particular cider which I believe deserved a new face. I have also been working on one of the D&AD briefs which has been very challenging and am still yet to crack. Ontop of that I have also been working on a number of smaller projects. I have been developing a series of four book covers based on a deck of cards which explore the use of typography and symbolism. I have also designed my friends business card which he used and took to a geology conference in London. There are a bunch of other projects I would like to pick up but they're just not enough hours in the day.

In other news I re-designed my logo. The old and the new logo are compared below.

This launched on my website last night. I believed the old logo had become a bit school-ish and wasn't reflecting how I was progressing as a designer. I am hoping the new logo delivers a slightly more professional message, while retaining the fun side to my work with the use of the playful yet elegant typeface. The typeface is an edited version of Lobster which you can download here. Lobster is a script typeface which makes use of some very poetic and flowing ligatures, but unfortunately the typeface doesn't come with a ligature which links an A and W which is what I worked on here. I have also given my blog a facelift and have applied the logo to my twitter account.

In other news... it is very cold. Falmouth fell victim to a small storm at the start of the week, there was thunder, lightning, hail, snow and even rumours of a small tornado. You can see photos of it here and here. I don't usually make a habit of talking about the weather on my blog, but this was a truly bizarre start to the week which resulted in falmouth almost grinding to halt. I don't think the south west is used to this sort of weather. Here is a photo out of my window of the event.

Just finished my second week of third year, and already the work load is piling up. But in my spare time I've been working on my lovely girlfriend's blog. CamillaDelacoe.co.uk features reviews on recently released films, music and general stories of a student journalist. I also put together her twitter background, nothing too major but just a little bit of fun.

My friend and housemate Hannah has started up a little blog called "Hannah's Daily Chalk". We moved into our new house this summer and the previous tennants left a chalk board nailed to the back of the kitchen door. Hannah has taken it upon herself to doodle a new drawing on the chalk board everyday and has this blog to show what happens. Funny stuff, go check it out.

In other news I am now a huge fan of Nathan Fillion since my girlfriend introduced me to the american guess who done it show "Castle". My love for Nathan only grew more when after buying Halo Reach (which I have been nerding out on for the last week) and realised Nathan voiced one of the characters, and has done in the previous Halo games also. How cool is that! My two loves for Castle and Halo united!

Aaaaanyway. I start third year of university tomorrow. Wish me luck!

September 01, 08:02 PM

So the summer hols are coming to an end, booo. But I'm looking forward to the new term, if not a little bit daunted at the thought of entering the third and final year of university.

Today we finally got the internet put in our new house which we moved into over summer. The house is awesome! I'm growing carrots in our garden (we have a garden!), even though it is the completely wrong time of year to grow them, but I'm going to try anyway. In other news my online portfolio is offline, which is very bad, you may notice the website www.adamwitton.co.uk just comes up with a rather annoying "database not installed". I am hoping to correct this over the next couple of weeks with a snazzy new website showing some of my latest work  including some of the work I did while working at Nixon.

I've been bouncing between Cornwall, Wales and the Midlands through most of the holidays visiting family and friends and spending lots of money on fuel as I go which has been lots of fun :) unfortunately not leaving me much time to work and do general designing of things, but I'm correcting this as we speak!

Keep an eye on this blog, as term starts up again and I start getting out of the lazy holiday state of mind and more into the work my ass off im a third year now mentality this blog should be bursting with interesting work and illustrations and other stuff.

Peace out.
