The original hair plan was to do a kiss curl (like photo A). So I did the kiss curl prep with bobby pins (photo B). But it looked cool, so I left it. When I woke up, I looked like Photo C!
Breaking News: Glinda, the Good Witch, spotted behind the new NC State Bar building. Details to follow.
Holy crap! The Internet is awesome! This is the workbook we used in my children’s choir that enabled me to pass out of a full year of Music theory AND Aural Skills at Oberlin. Amazing!
New bike rack in front of Raleigh Times. Takes up one parking space, but 20 can park!

I was on vacation in Portland last week and was staying with a friend who was also a voice major. We actually were at Conservatory together for undergrad and grad school (before we both bailed on the grad portion of things). He’s in med school now, but to make some extra dough, he records these songs for this guy he knows. They are familiar song with new lyrics, mostly relating to Portland and the guy’s area of academic expertise (some sort of science). Anyway, while we were there, I helped David knock one out. Did the vocals in one take! It’s so cheesy. Take a listen!443 plays

I loved this song so much. I don’t think I know it. Or maybe I do. I don’t know. Whatever it is, I need to get a copy as soon as one exists. I came in late on the Lost in the Trees game, which is unfortunate. I adore them!0 plays

Here’s a practice file I made for Seamus when he and I were preparing for The Love Hangover at King’s in February. We did Day Trip by Nina Nastasia. She sings it alone, but we did it as a duet. Since he and I could only get together once a week, I send him some files so he could hear what I was working on in the interim days.0 plays

Big fan of this record, which I only discovered for the first time a few months ago when they first announced that a rerelease was coming. bigstarblog: Recorded in 1970 but shelved due a label tussle until 1996, 1970 was going to be Alex Chilton’s first solo record, recorded months after the Box Tops broke up and a year before the formation of Big Star. Not surprisingly, it finds the seminal artist in a transitional mode, touching on the sound of everyone from The Beatles to Gram Parsons and The Byrds, yet all held together by Chilton’s standout vocal performances.311 plays

I’m in the NC Master Chorale. On Sunday, we performed Mendelssohn’s Elijah at Meymandi Concert Hall. My parents came up from North Georgia. They are handy with the technology, so we got it captured! I’m the high soprano in this clip. The other clip is here: Link41 plays

♫ Waiting For My Real Life to Begin by Colin Hay ♫ Admission: About once a month, I play this song really loud and cry my eyes out. Then I return to my “real life” and try to appreciate what I actually have.0 plays

Messing around with the Everyday Looper app again. I own an actual looping pedal, and I really need to learn to use it. I keep getting myself too busy with other things. Stop that, Abby!10 plays

A little Shara Worden singing a cappella during her performance of Penelope at King’s Barcade in Raleigh, North Carolina on 4/18/2011. From the web site: Composed by Sarah Kirkland Snider, Penelope is inspired by Homer’s epic poem, the Odyssey, and is a meditation on memory, identity and what it means to come home. Called “the year’s most affecting creation” by Time Out New York, Penelope is suspended somewhere between art song, indie rock, and chamber folk, and moves organically from moments of elegiac strings-and-harp refection to dusky post-rock textures with drums, guitars and electronics, all directed by a strong sense of melody and craftsman’s approach to songwriting.0 plays

It’s been raining so much. Had this song on my mind all week. This is me. I sang this solo at a Spring concert when I lived in Bloomington, Indiana, but I first learned it years earlier at Oberlin. Words by e.e. cummings. Song by John Duke. I posted the scanned pages from cumming’s book rather than the words. He typed his text very carefully, and John Duke mimicked cumming’s intentions in his setting of the words to music. You can listen to e.e. cummings reading this poem himself if you’d like: Link0 plays

Oh, so here’s my first looping practice with that app Crazy French Ed was telling you about. I made it for my cat, because I’m sad like that! It’s a loop times four. It will BLOW YOUR MIND! (Not really) But give me time! Also, I have a real Boss looping pedal, so better loops coming soon.0 plays
