Bonafied Respect.

Started off the show with a selection of new cuts tonight… some were going down OK in the chatroom, others got the gasface!  You never know… I always try to break new music, some of the stuff I hadn’t even played myself so I was as blind as you guys… I quite like that though, cos it’s like I’m listening for the first time along with you lot…

So we had the phone number on air and received a couple of voicemails that I dropped before the chatroom selection, including some cyberman shenanigans from TJ Fresh!

Dropped a cut off the new EP Whirlwind D & Me are putting out also tonight, first exclusive play, also played the first worldwide airing of Pure Destructive Power from Hardnoise, many thanks to Gibo!

So what else a gwaarn… all the usual crowd in the chatroom, the subject of the tracks from the chatroom was the overkill of MoD presence with poxy snipers, the biggest battleship in the UK fleet, HMS Ocean docked in the Thames and all these f*cking surface to air missiles all over the gaff, I mean come on, REALLY?  That plus the fact I was iinstalling Turkish satelite for this dude this week and upon setting up the receiver in front of his non English speaking missus & 1 year old kid, you guessed it, mystery meat was playing the in and out game in full techniclolour… so, smut & destruction!

Thanks to all for locking in… Check back for news on Scenes14 doing a new show soon… Gonna rip Repo’s idea off and stick the tracklist in the comments below, so there!

So here it is, the April Edition of The Ageing B-Boys Unite! Takeover Show onDisco Scratch Radio which went out on the air yesterday evening.

I know I’m always banging on about getting in the chatroom each Thursday to get involved live when the Disco Scratch shows are on but last night was exceptional.

The chatroom was pretty full with such regulars as Inch, Hayhooooooe, Waxer, RobinS, Wock, RuseOne, Scenes, JimCee, Grixter, Bradski, Ridla, SteveB, Metronik, Sine, LG, CoolC all in attendance at sometime throughout the evening.
And we even had an honorary appearance from the man like Agent Finch for a fleeting time as well! Brraaapp!

As well as this there were some new faces such as SDK, myhiphophistory, deathop, SirGandalfSpamDigger (hmmmm…) and, er, Bob_James.

However there were two more newbies in the chat that I was very happy to see, namelyFuture Radio‘s very own Hip Hop Sessions regular, DJ Mr Eps who dropped in and fueled a Grange Hill debate. And also we had the legendary underground actress and ex-FUN Gallery owner, Patti Astor stop by and chat, too. You may remember Patti as ‘Virginia‘, the lady reporter in Wild Style. She regularly posts in the ABU! Facebook Group as well and drops serious knowledge and great anecdotes about the early 80′s hip hop scene in New York City.

There was a great vibe throughout the evening which made the session pretty special. Then there was a 30-minute bonus beat after-hours session with Waxer putting on some niceNautilus-related joints. And then…….. the mother of all Easter Eggs. If you were listening you would have heard the world’s first full-length play of ‘Strong‘ which is the opening track from the upcoming WD-40 EP from Whirlwind D & Waxer. Remember, anything played AFTER 11pm is not part of the download version of the show. This is all strictly live. There will be no re-runs, brother.

Big shout to my man, Ric Flair from the Strictly Business crew. These guys make some of the dopest and most comprehensive compilations known to man. Ric chose this month’s selection in the Album Spotlight section (seeComments for the reveal).

Thanks to EVERYONE to tuned in live last night and of course to anyone who is listening to the download. Your support is greatly appreciated. This is from the heart.

One Love.
Respect.
Truth is absolute.

At last… thanks to my mellow Whirlwind D, I have a record out before I’m 40!  Some of you may recall he came to the legendary POV and recorded 3 cuts with me back last year.  The idea was to release these tracks as a 12 or EP but I just couldn’t commit to anything cos of work etc… but D was like a dog with a bone and made me get off my arse & get this together… well, actually, he did it all I just turned up at the studio & drank Stella with Courvoisier chasers!!!

So, without further ado, you can pre-order your 12 from the man himself, here’s what you need:

WHIRLWIND D – WD-40 EP – Pre Orders are live!

Fellas, it’s been a little while since I brought Liberty Grooves back and put out our unreleased Solid n Mind material……….well, I’m back…..only this time with some new music!

I am very excited about this project, because although I love my old Solid n Mind stuff, I have continued writing and this is an opportunity to share some new music that is relevant to me now! I hope you like them………..

Anyway, the record is an EP containing three tracks:

Track 1: 32 & Tea

Track 2: Hunter

Track 3: Strong

(note: the snippets are only poor quality mp3s!)

Each is produced by Waxer and mixed and engineered by The Assembly Worker, with cuts on Strong by Theory77. The vocals are of course me!

We will be pressing 300 vinyl copies and the EP will have a full picture cover which is being designed by the brilliant Mr Krum as we speak (he recently did Format’s amazing LP amongst other things!). Labels are shown below:

The record should be ready to ship in around 4-6 weeks.

As is tradition with these things, I thought I’d open up some pre-sales now. The cost of the record is £6.99 plus p & p.

It’s Sunday… my dad came over from Pompey and is staying locally, we had lunch in a pub, came back, had tea at my yard…he went back to his holiday let with his missus, so then it’s me with a few Red Stripes, son number one doing homework, missus is doing the kids uniforms ready to go back after Easter, then in the front room with a movie on LoveFilm through the xbox, the daughter is pushing her luck staying up late!… so I’m on the lappy listening to bits and bobs thinking about the show and I thought I’d get another show on mixcloud… so here is show number 2, with Blade in interview and I relistened to it while tagging it and this man is just inspirational… stream this now and just feel the inspiration, funk & skills flow through your speakers…

The daily grind sometimes spills over into the time when I should be “entertaining” you with witty humour (toilet variety), top tuneage & various other randomness…

So, on the days when the shizzle hits the fizzle, I’d rather have some people to be able to move the crowd rather than the blank hollow sound of nothingness that fills your speakers when I can’t get on the radio.

So what are the requirements to do your thing on the radio?

  • PC or Mac with fairly decent soundcard running modern OS, Windows XP or 7 (not vista or anything else), Linux (Ubuntu or similar) or Mac OS X (minimum Snow Leopard 10.6.8)
  • Be able to plug a mic in and use it live (you can’t be shy on this show!)
  • Some sort of hardware like a pair of decks, a mixer, the ability to mix MP3s with wax (perfect example is Traktor or Serato) or pure MP3 setup with a MP3 mixing console like Numark Mix Pro or Vestax VCI 300 etc
  • A good knowledge of general audio, software, routing of cables, sound frequencies etc (to be able to sort broadcast sound out)
  • Streaming software for shoutcast protocol (I use Nicecast on OS X 10.6.8) like Winamp with the shoutcast DSP plugin
  • A decent broadband connection (very important!!!)
  • Lastly, just the ability to react to situations like dead space all of a sudden, phone ringing when you are mixing, stopping the kids from using Netflix or X Box live when you stream to avoid dropouts and be able to deal with my old chum Norman!

So if you have the kind of collection that you think DS heads would appreciate, you’re not scared of the mic and up for a laugh, you might be a dope broadcaster!  The main thing is to keep it moving and be able to react quickly… word of advice… don’t have a drink when you are broadcasting, the 2 don’t mix! Tea and biccies is the way forward!

So, if you fancy a show, either as a standby DJ or for a monthly slot (I could be looking for additional slots once a week) let me know… I’ll connect to your computer over the internet & help you configure it then we can do some test streams and once you have a feel, do a live show.

I’m hoping to bring some new blood into Diso Scratch & find some entertaining DJs with something to say… not a generic daytime radio style DJ.

Either post a comment below or e-mail waxer [at] discoscratch [dot] co [dot] uk or leave a message on 01843 265049 and let me know!

Hopefully be speaking with you soon…. peace, Waxer…

Got this in the e-mail yesterday:

Today, I took the decision to move the shoutcast servers to a new server. Recent DDOS attacks against a certain customer on the node, have meant we have seen a small amount of downtime.

We have removed the abusive customer, and got the node back online last night. However this node is running hardware that is getting to be outdated (compared to our hosting/gaming servers).

So we have taken the decision to transfer all our shoutcast customers to a new server, which has better hardware with increased performance.

Ya see? Should I tell them that Norman was behind these attacks?

Anyways, the guys up at zFast are great to deal with, stuff like this happens somettimes, whatyagonnado???  So they reacted fast and got it sorted.  So, show is back on this week, thanks y’all!

April 12, 04:55 PM

So at 8PM tonight I was (and still am as I am posting now) stuck at a customers premises configuring a CCTV recorder to work online.  I resoloved myself to the fact that I couldn’t do a live show but would instead stream an old show and still get in the chat.

However, Norman had other ideas and decided to haunt the guys at zFast in Manchester and probably laughed Mr Grimsdale’s tits off by pulling out all those internet cables over there!  So no shoutcast server=no show!

The guys there are great and I assume all will be well next week, but still, there’s why all you got tonight was static hiss…

I’ll keep you posted for next week…
