Shooting in the war room today.

‎All good things in life come after risk, uncertainty, fear, and a couple spoonfuls of panic and pain - it’s just a normal sign that you are evolving yourself. The people who let the fear keep them from DOING are the ones who sit around in their hometown playing xbox live — nothing scary about that at all. So they sit, they fester, and their dreams remain things that happen when they fall asleep, not things they spend their day pursuing.
I just wrote that in an email and it seemed kind of smart. (via justin)
A year ago today

A year ago today I moved from NYC to LA. That is all that happened that day.

Congrats Ben! May you now be called, Ben “I wrote an episode of The Simpsons” Joseph, for the rest of your life. A blessing or a curse? In 25 years I’ll follow up with his answer.

Next exit Cape Cod

Found this sweet Hideo Nomo shirt in my old. closet. I’m definitely gonna look good at the next dodger game I go to.

Here’s something that’s annoyed me… at some point in the 48 hours since it premiered on Sunday night, the reaction to Lena Dunham’s new show Girls has turned exceptionally nasty. Not “Hey, I didn’t like this show” nasty, but more like “I’m going to use Facebook and Tumblr and Twitter to tear…

Amen.

I don’t totally agree with everything Alex Fernie is dishing out, and that’s hard to say because we once shared a camper in the middle of the desert. As much as critics are allowed to love or hate a show so are the viewers. I’m surprised it took this long for the backlash to start. When you have a show that is about four 20 something year old girls living in NYC and the opening scene involves one of them being told by their parents they have to pay their own way through life after having everything taken care of (rent, phone bill, etc.), you’re going to get a ton of backlash. I for one was immediately turned off and annoyed, because as much as we want to say that the line, “I’m a voice of my generation,” was a joke, guess what, people won’t take it as one, including the generations above us and the generations below us. Why does this piss people off (and obviously me), because some of us have to earn our own livings paying for everything ourselves (rent, phone bill, etc.), and being compared to people like the ones in this show is very frustrating. I’m not saying it’s wrong to have your parents take care of some things, I’m just saying some people don’t like to be compared to others who have, which happens far too often.

However, to hate on a show that you haven’t seen because of nepotism is pretty ridiculous. As a filmmaker with no family members in “the business” it is hard to see people get to high places in part because of their parents. Honestly though, it’s the world we live in. If anything, you should use it as motivation to get off your ass and work harder then ever before. Then one day you can get your own tv show and say you did it all through hard work and your parents had nothing to do with it, then a twitter fight will start between you and the cast of girls and everyone can sit back, watch, and enjoy. Let’s also not condemn these actresses because of their parents. Some of them are actually pretty talented.

This is awesome.

Tumblr bait. Plain and simple this is just straight up tumblr bait.

It amazes me...

…how many people still wait in line to buy their tickets at the movie theater. It’s kind of outrageous when you think about it.

RARE Steven Spielberg directing on-set of Jurassic Park

Love this. I wish all behind the scenes videos would just be raw footage from the shoot. So much more interesting then hearing bullshit interviews from the cast talk about how the location really helped them get into character.

OMFG!!!!!!!

Can. Not. Wait.

I’m incredibly excited, happy, and proud to say my friend and colleague wrote an episode of one of the best TV shows ever. I’m even more excited to brag to people that I know him and have directed some of his work. Congrats Ben!

TL;DR I wrote an episode of The Simpsons. It’s airing this Sunday at 8pm. PLEASE WATCH IT!

About a year ago, I had the amazing opportunity to pitch and write an episode of The Simpsons. It was an awesome, intimidating experience, and I only hope I did the show justice. Above are the promo images they’ve released for it so far, here’s the plot synopsis:

When Bart is forced to chaperone Jimbo’s girlfriend to a movie, she ends up developing feelings for him. Meanwhile, Homer develops an obsession with an old television show.

It airs this Sunday at 8pm and I’d love for you all to watch it. The B-plot especially is mine, and was based on the frustrating experience of watching LOST about a year and a half after everybody else at CollegeHumor.

I could go on for pages about how The Simpsons almost singlehandedly molded my comedic sensibilities, and how I think, at its best, it’s the perfect television show, but instead I’ll just post the first Simpsons joke I ever laughed at, almost twenty years ago:

Perfect.

Picking up the keys to my new ride. See y’all in the clouds!
