WARNING: RARE SELF PROMOTION POST. The Life of the World to Come, the Mountain Goats performance film I directed, is coming to DVD and screening at select venues in March and April. The DVD is limited edition, and should be something really special - John Darnielle has designed the packaging himself, and he claims it is a thing of rare beauty. More details here.

Another SXSW Poster Concept I’ve Been Working On
The problem is, this one uses a creative commons photo from Flickr and we want to use photography from hitRECorders. So if you’re in Austin and want to collaborate by taking some wicked pictures of the city then head on over to the poster collaboration and upload your images.

hitRECord SXSW 1st Poster Printed!
Tori made this awesome poster using Wirrow’s beautiful artwork, and I added a little extra info. We just printed them and are busy plastering them around Austin.
BUT!
We have two more screenings and we want to make two more unique posters for each of them – so if you’re in Austin or elsewhere and want to help out we’d love to see what you do!

Morgan M. Morgansen - PART II
First of all, welcome to my new tumblr followers. I’ve been busy at work with something really exciting that I want to invite any musicians to be a part of: an internet collaboration with Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s production company hitRECord.org.
You can check out the first collaborative short film we made together for Sundance here. And now, there’s an amazing new short in the works and we’re gonna finish it for a screening at SXSW.
I wrote the music and now we need various people to add instruments to the score and submit their parts to hitrecord.org (check out this video for more info). Next week I’ll be editing and mixing all the contributions into the final score.
I’m so excited about this kind of collaboration - it is an amazing way to work, especially the more amazing musicians become involved… and you get paid each time the film makes money based on the percentage you contribute.
So, if you play an instrument, have a listen to the sketch score, and then record a contribution and come be a part of hitrecord.org!
I’ll keep you up to date with how it’s going :)

New Morgan M. Morgansen Score (!!!!!)
Nathan just posted the ‘sketch’ for ‘Morgan & Destiny’s Eleventeeth Date - The Zeppelin Zoo’… It is absolutely incredible already. Lionel’s Theme is perfect!
I can’t help but be inspired and amazed by what is possible, and I can’t wait to see where this all takes us… :D

David Foster Wallace on Kafka's humor
“The fact is that Kafka’s humor has almost none of the particular forms and codes of contemporary U.S. amusement. […] I opine to them that some of our deepest and most profound collective intuitions seem to be expressible only as figures of speech, that that’s why we call these figures of speech “expressions.” […] And it is this, I think, that makes Kafka’s wit inaccessible to children whom our culture has trained to see jokes as entertainment and entertainment as reassurance. It’s not that students don’t “get” Kafka’s humor but that we’ve taught them to see humor as something you get — the same way we’ve taught them that a self is something you just have. No wonder they cannot appreciate the really central Kafka joke - that the horrific struggle to establish a human self results in a self whose humanity is inseparable from that horrific struggle. That our endless and impossible journey toward home is in fact our home. […] You can tell them that maybe it’s good they don’t “get” Kafka. You can ask them to imagine his art as a kind of door. To envision us readers coming up and pounding on this door, pounding and pounding, not just wanting admission but needing it, we don’t know what it is but we can feel it, this total desperation to enter, pounding and pushing and kicking, etc. That, finally, the door opens…and it opens outward: we’ve been inside what we wanted all along. Das ist komisch.”

Ladies and Gentlemen - Happy Friday!
Two exciting announcements today. First, we’re making a proposal for how we think the $10,000 of contributor’s profit should be split up from our Sundance Screening - Check out the ‘Contributing Artists’ Profit Pool’ documents for all the RECords screened and let us know what you think! Check it out here.
Second bit of exciting news - hitRECord.org is going to SXSW! We’ve got a couple of great events planned. Can’t wait to tell you more about how you can get involved. Check back soon for more details.

Coffee: Temperature vs. Time. I made a little graph of how my coffee behaves (where area above the top dotted line = “way too fucking hot” and area below the bottom dotted line = “way too fucking cold;” therefore ‘A’ = pleasant drinking interval = approx. 15.3 seconds.)
