Nebraska’s governor says city ordinances barring discrimination against gay and transgender people should be put to public votes.
Gov. Dave Heineman on Tuesday cited a recent opinion from the state attorney general’s office that said cities would have to amend their charters to offer protections to groups not covered by state law.
Governor Heineman claims that he’s just repeating an opinion from the AG’s office … but in reality what he’s doing is disguising his own position against extending anti-discrimination protection to gays and lesbians. That position, ultimately, is that questions about whether it’s acceptable to discriminate should be decided by a majority of the populace.
I understand that some people don’t like lgbtq individuals; they don’t want them to get married, adopt children, live near them, work in their offices, or look at them on the street. They think they’re icky. They might not feel the same way about Latinos, or African-Americans, or Asians, or Jews, or Mormons, or Catholics, or whomever … but they also might.
And the position of Nebraska’s governor is that a) this is perfectly fine and b) if enough people feel this way, then discrimination against minorities groups is not only acceptable but also the right course of action.
In other words, he seems content to say that whether or not it’s acceptable to discriminate against some group or other should be determined by 51% of the people who turn up to vote. But, frankly, I find it hard to believe that Governor Heineman would agree to this statement if we were talking about discrimination toward any other group of people.
If this porch were a ship, I’m pretty sure we’d call it The Brass Crab. (Taken with Instagram at Where The Best New Bands Reside)

It’s been a long, long time, and you can hear the air conditioner in the back, and I forget how to play the song a couple times, and there are lighting issues, and you can catch my niece and nephew arguing at the end, and the video quality is total crap, but it’s a video.
Ah, internet video celebrity. (Haaaaaa…)
if you’ve never loved a band to the point where you put on their music and just lie on the floor sobbing while still attempting to sing along to every word, then i genuinely wonder how you could ever truly love anything

When all was said and done, this is how awesome it turned out.
Also, I was high as a kite for about fifteen minutes because of all that close proximity to that Sharpie.

Tacos bring people together. If this hasn’t been determined worldwide, I’m afraid there are people missing out on a certain level of community everyone should know.
We here at AYGAMG have been recording and we have been on a sort of hiatus while searching for a drummer and focusing our concentrated efforts on making the album sound as good as we can.
To make this happen, I’ve been practicing with my sister, KP, and two ladies I’ve done music with for some of the Encyclopedia Shows, Liz and Molly. These three are the Vandellas to my Martha, the Supremes to my Diana, the Pips to my Gladys. Things have been going swimmingly, and FEELINGS.
I’ve been playing my fair share of solo shows and shows with just Will and I, but we’d scheduled one full band show before we were out a drummer, and then we were also offered an opportunity to play for a big event in town that would help us pay for some of the cd, so we took that, too. Knowing of the upcoming events, we knew it was time to get everyone in the same room to see just how all the cogs would come together.
Last night was the first time marrying Travis and Will to KP, Molly, and Liz, and let me tell you, TACOS.
Tacos and Tacate and at moments, saucy four-part harmonies and snapping silliness and sweet guitar solos; we spent the night realizing just how much potential for greatness we’ve got ahead of us. The music we were making was almost more overwhelming than the amount of booze we all managed to consume. I feel like, for the first time in a long time, All Young Girls Are Machine Guns is a family.
When we do finally come across the right drummer, I hope they’re ready for a whole lot of love and laughter.
I feel like this should be direct inspiration for the album cover when we finish it.
Turns out we follow one another in the Tumblrverse.
Such a small Tumblrverse.
I wonder who that could be…
Sometimes you just have to unfollow one person and your feed becomes a thing of beauty. Sorry, hockey/football/boy band enthusiast, I just couldn’t take it anymore.

Ramona… just a name.

Top of the Hill - Conduits
Went to the Conduits cd release tonight. Jenna and the guys have put together an incredible set of music that only serves to remind me of how excited I am to be making music in such a rich community. Bravo. Bravo, indEEd.
